A Buffalo win gives the MAC some national respect. Buffalo games will generate a lot more interest across the MAC next year. No whining about their seed or being from a 1-bid conference. They just went out and kicked some ass. Awesome job by the Bulls tonight. They lost their marquee coach and just keep rolling with the next one.5 points

I've only been a Zips fan for a couple of decades now so I don't know what it feels like to win a first round game. But please forgive me if the Zips ever win one, I'm calling it a run, domination, destiny, and many more arguable terms. Congratulations to the Bulls. I'm happy to see it, because it somehow gives me hope the Zips can win one someday. #jealousagain4 points

I did not mean to imply that the staff had given up on Virshon. They didn't. Rather he gave up on doing things their way. He was a talent no doubt, but this is addition by subtraction. The staff did everything they could to help him along the way, but it was always going to be the Akron basketball way, not Virshon's. He could not accept that. Next year his playing time was probably going to be reduced. With that you risk him being a cancer in the locker room. That is not an acceptable risk. Good luck to him wherever he goes. The team will be better for his departure.3 points

3 days!! @LZIp - Just for clarification, the image tweeted above list only the practices that are open to the public. They will have several more than that throughout the Spring practice period. I'm shooting to be there for the 3/22 practice.2 points

Jimond Ivey was spirited and occasionally showed signs of being frustrated, but he was never a bad teammate requiring the intervention team leaders or the coaching staff. Comparing Ivey to Cotton is like comparing Eddie Haskell to Attila the Hun.2 points

We all know that money rules the world. We know T. Boone Pickens basically runs Oklahoma State. Phil Knight and Oregon. The Wexner's and OSU. What I think we generally don't know is who the affluential people are that can make stuff happen at the University of Akron. Part of the issue with Scarborough was that he rubbed people the wrong way and we lost donations. Those seem to be going back up now under President Wilson. Who are the movers and shakers that influence important decisions at the U? I'll start the list, feel free to add or argue why someone shouldn't be included as necessary. I'm certain there are some businessmen I'm not aware of. Lebron James - Obviously not an alumni (yet anyways), but the global icon and soon to be billionaire has partnerships with the U and has remained connected in one way or another since high school. Matt Kaulig - Former Zips QB, race team sponsor, and successful businessman as the owner of LeafFilter. His involvement with the U and football program is well documented. Jason Taylor - NFL Hall of Famer who has dabbled some in the entertainment industry. Estimated NW of 25 million. Don't think he is very involved behind the scenes at the U, but there is at least a little bit of relationship there and I think his words would have power. Goodyear/Quaker Oats/Knight Foundation founders and descendants are or have been involved. Other names to consider who I am unsure of their net worth/involvement/power: Joe Gingo (CEO of A. Schulman) Yvette Nicole Brown (actor) Mary Taylor (Lt. Governor of Ohio, Governor candidate, former state auditor) Dan Auberbach/Patrick Carney (Black Keys) Chase Blackburn (nice NFL career) Domenik Hixon (nice NFL career) Jerry Hollendorfer (accomplished horse racer) Sandy Pianalto (Former president of the Fed. Reserve of Cleveland) Younger alumni who could maybe be players down the road: Alex Bliss (Alexis Kaufman) - WWE wrestler/champion, former cheerleader. DeAndre Yedlin/other professional soccer players Jatavis Brown1 point

I would contend that, if we can't pay Morgan State, we shouldn't be a Division 1 program. Put me in the corner with those that are happy we get one guaranteed week to feel good about Zips football in September. Those first three away games are an absolute meat grinder.1 point

Yeah, I feel the setup of winning 3 games in 3 days really hurt Akron the last few years considering our team was built around and heavily relied on a 300 lb C. Perimeter players are better adapt to that kind of setup.1 point

Only reason I was rooting for them was to put a sock in their ears with the Sean Miller wire revelations....suck it power 5s1 point

That wasn't just an upset win. That was an ass kicking. I'm beginning to think the MAC might be better than perceived.1 point

Put me in the category of being glad to see the MAC pull off the win. People are right when they say one year won't change the perception of the MAC, but you have to start building from some point.1 point

The big 3 of Buffalo's guards accounted for 75% of their scoring. Go look at who Groce has offered. There's a reason he's targeting a bunch of guards. It gives me confidence he knows what he's doing.1 point

During the peak of Akron's dominance, OU beat Georgetown and then made a Sweet Sixteen run two years later. The year after the Sweet Sixteen run, it took the nation's longest winning streak and a creative marketing ploy (the hashtag) for voters to put us in one of the polls. We need nobody but ourselves.1 point

That's complete and utter "Bull" sht. Gonzaga did it in Tacoma, Washington with a student body of like 6k. Akron doesn't need anyone else to be respected.1 point

I don't care, I hope Buffalo wins. This is a fun game to watch and the more mid majors to move on the better.1 point

If I am not mistaken, Manziel is playing in this league, so I'm sure the people that matter will be paying a lot closer attention than normal. Hopefully Jamal has recovered fully from his injury and can make the most of it. He is an NFL talent.1 point

Watching this makes me think this should have been us at least once from 2007-2017. Blah0 points
