I apologize for posting too much....I am just excited about what this team has accomplished I know that it is popular on this board to bash the hometown newspaper.... But, I think that the Beacon has done a great job of covering the team this year....and I think that Marla Ridenour is a very good writer https://www.ohio.com/sports/20181204/college-cup-zips-find-belief-in-system-each-other-to-recover-from-6-6-2-start2 points

A friend of a friend of mine's wife is friends with a friend of Urban Meyer's wife. She said they were looking at houses in Richfield.2 points

I think we're waaaaaay behind in making the obligatory reference to Wayne State's Paul Winters as a candidate. He's been mentioned in every other Zips football coaching search for the last 20 years. I'd hate to see him left out now. LOL.2 points

GT Article with potential candidates- https://www.ohio.com/sports/20181203/university-of-akron-football-head-coaching-job-could-be-desirable-landing-spot-for-some Candidates referenced in article- • Luke Getsy: Offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach at Mississippi State. • Ryan Held: Running backs coach at Nebraska. • Mike Jacobs: Head coach at Notre Dame College. • Michael Johnson: Wide receivers coach at Oregon. • Vince Kehres. Head coach at Mount Union. • Brian Polian. Recruiting/special teams coordinator at Notre Dame. • Ed Warinner. Offensive line coach at Michigan. I think we can now eliminate these as strong possibilities. LOL.2 points

We need another experienced college head coach. It was the experienced Bowden who rescued the program from the disaster the inexperienced iCoach left us with. We need anopther experienced college head coach to take it from here. How many rookie head coaches have we lived through between the Zips and the Browns over the decades?2 points

"InfoCision Stadium might be an albatross" Had she ever been to the Rubber Bowl? I would love to see her write a column on why such a nice stadium is an "albatross." Who's fault is it? Scarborough said "I wouldn't have built that stadium." Seems like everyone is keen to blame Mike Thomas for giving UA a beautiful on-campus stadium for a paltry 61.5 million dollars (it would cost double that to build it today). Different topic for a different thread, but it just bugs me that no one since Mike Waddell has busted his butt to fill UA's football stadium.2 points

In my very casual following of the Chargers, I thought Jatavis' play dropped off some after his nice rookie year. Glad to see that it looks like he is finally getting back to form. Get that second contract Hitman!1 point

Jatavis has 72 tackles, second on the team behind FS rookie phenom Derwin James who has 81.1 point

I was mostly joking. My real reason for not liking him is he already had his shot at a G5 program and I wasn't impressed.1 point

I would bet they do. The problem is these kids have been on a pedestal all of their life and believe they can all be the star at these big time universities and make millions in the nfl as a result. Of course reality is that isn't the case, but why wouldn't they believe it?1 point

I am not big on Notre Dame, especially based on past experience with a former Akron head coach who shall not be named (Faust Excluded). It would surprise me that Brian Polian would be interested in Akron. If he is, he would be a huge get for Akron. He has been a successful head coach at Nevada, has great connections, and has been Notre Dame's recruiting coordinator. Recruiting is the life blood of college football and those connections can prove very valuable. I think a lot of the names that have been floated have potential. Polian seems to be a premier candidate IMO.1 point

A nugget from GT's article on the coaching search. According to those with knowledge of the situation, Bowden may not be done at UA. He could take another assignment to fulfill his contract. That's good to hear. I like Bowden and hope he's still around campus. Former HC Gerry Faust doesn't have any hard feelings after being replaced by Lee Owens and is still on campus just about every day (from what I hear).1 point

George has certainly hurt their chances by, well let's face it, being George. But of the group I am intrigued by Getsy and Kehres. I like Getsy's progression up the ladder, his offenses and his history with us. As for Kehres I believe he knows how to win, no matter what the challenge. I also think he may be more about legacy than moving on to the next level and better pay. His dad repeatedly turned down better offers and showed by example that money isn't everything. I like guys who know how to win and make that expectation part of the team culture. Kehres also picks good assistants and manages them well as a staff. I do not believe TB did that well. At Mount they have 13 assistants. Many are volunteer coaches who receive little to no pay, but they are highly qualified ex-D1 or NFL coaches or NFL players who love being part of the game. He deserves an interview if he will take it.1 point

It's the MAC, there are no blue bloods here relegating us to an eternity of mediocrity. Any team is capable of winning as well as they have a quality run program. Today's recruits were in elementary school when RI was running the program. Do you think they even remember those 1-11 teams? It's a very real possibility that Larry Williams would like to eventually go to a bigger program where he'd make more money. Idk if that's the case, but it wouldn't surprise me. Hell even Dambrot left Akron, his alma mater, to get a bigger pay day elsewhere. It's just the nature of being a G5 program. Overall, IMO he's done a mighty fine job. If he keeps performing the way he has it wouldn't surprise me if some larger program tries to lure him away. If our coaches and AD are getting poached that means we're winning. The problem comes when they underperform so much that we have to fire them.1 point

I encourage anyone not flying to SB to go to the JAR. This is an event and we should witness it together. Seriously.1 point

I do too Keyon. I do too. Hopefully any new coach can see his value, if given a chance to show it.1 point

This is Akron's first true road game and one of only 2 on their OOC schedule. The game should provide some valuable experience before MAC play.1 point

We can talk about population all week, but the simple fact is football is THE sport in Ohio high schools, especially northeast Ohio. It's a northeast Ohio hotbed. The best athletes play football in high school. In other parts of the country, that isn't true.1 point
