  1. So well-deserved. Thanks to the university and to Coach Embick for staying with the best Men's Soccer Program in the country, which he was instrumental in building and will continue to make even better!!! https://gozips.com/news/2019/2/15/mens-soccer-akron-extends-embicks-contract.aspx

  2. Good "team-ism" in the first half (whatever in the hell that means).

  3. Looks like everything on 247 is updated, at least for us. Notes: Class ended up ranked 112th in the nation, 9th in the MAC, and an average star of .7924. There was never a higher year in the Bowden era either in the nation or average star. Bowden did finish higher in the MAC (8th) in 2014, but about 1/3 of those recruits never made it on the team, including the highest-ranked infamous Anthony Clark out of Buchtel. 247 adjusted Corey Thomas' and Peter Hayes-Patrick's rankings. Corey Thomas is now the highest rated recruit in the class. Thomas and Hayes Patrick are now rated the 6th and 7th highest rated recruits all time (as opposed to 6th and 8th).

  4. I saw the ladies swimming and diving team is ranked 23rd in the country. That is an outstanding achievement to the coaches and athletes. What amazed me was when I scanned the list of the top 25 teams no one other than Akron was outside the P5 schools. For us to compete with those deep pocketed schools is quite a feather in the cap of our university and athletics dept. Well done everyone! Let's see the other sports joining the success of MSoc, M & W Track and now WSwim & Dive

  6. 5 point lead with about 2 minutes left. Then shoot EARLY in the shot clock on 2 consecutive possessions ( 1 a 3 pointer). When is this team going to learn how to win??? Pretty basic stuff. Gave this one away.......

  7. Can we just have Cheese, Banks, Utomi, Ivey, and Riak on court to finish this game? I have no faith in LCJ to make the right play on offense and he's exposed on defense.

  8. It'd be a more glaring issue if we were a better shooting team. Hard to get an assist when the guy on the receiving end doesn't make the shot 65-70% of the time.

  9. SoCon is having a historic year. Even with that they currently rank 12th in average net rankings while the MAC is 8th. The only notable OOC win that conference has was Furman beating Villanova. The top 3-4 teams in the SoCon have propped their numbers up against the other 6 members of the conference who all frankly suck. Currently 4 SoCon teams (10 team conference) have a NET ranking of 240+. For comparison the MAC only has 1 team with a NET of 200+.

  11. I just looked up the Mid-Major 25 just to see where any MAC schools ranked, especially Buffalo, Toledo, and BG. I have to say, though, that the thing that really got my attention on that site was how the Southern Conference with schools like Wofford and ETSU is all over the rankings. There has been discussion before about conferences the MAC could have a co Terence challenge against. Would a MAC-Southern Conference challenge make sense in the future since we no longer have Bracketbusters? http://www.collegeinsider.com/mens-mid-major-top-25.php

  13. A Degree 10 Years in the Making For Portland Timbers defender Zarek Valentin, it was never a matter of if he would finish his degree, but when. In just three semesters at the University of Akron, he helped lead the Zips to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances, where they ultimately captured the school's first National Championship title in 2010. After two successful seasons, Valentin elected to leave the university, becoming a part of the Zips' impressive draft class that included teammates Perry Kitchen and Darlington Nagbe. He went on to sign a Generation Adidas contract and was drafted fourth overall in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft by Chivas USA. Ultimately, Valentin was selected by Montreal in the Expansion Draft, and spent the 2012 season with the Impact before going international and joining FK Bodø/Glimt in Norway for two years. In 2016, he was traded by Montreal to Portland, and is preparing for his fourth season with the Timbers. This past December, Valentin graduated from Akron with a B.S. in Organizational Supervision after working for nearly ten years to finish his degree. He shared his story of persevering through an academic journey that spanned three different countries and why it was so important to him to graduate. ...

  14. It's okay. Most everything could have been blamed on Milwee. I still blame him for almost everything, including Terry getting fired for being too stubborn to fire his ass.

  15. Welcome to the way things are done now. Instead of riding the bench as a redshirt freshman, he will be playing and getting better at a prep school.

  17. Just when I complimented Jackson on making some short jump shots he has once again been content to shoot nothing but the 3 ball. He did try one tear drop in heavy traffic that I thought was a pass. He needs to work on something other than shooting the 3 ball.

  18. Wow, Jackson doesn't have a positive assist to turnover ratio? I'm pretty sure he hears about that plenty. That is one of Groce's biggest metrics. Especially as a point guard. He should be in the ballpark of 3 assists to 1 turnover as the lead guard. Not good.
