  6. Can we please fire this "coach"? Not at the end of the season. NOW. It is clear that he is clueless.

  7. I quit watching. It's more fun standing in the rain giving out candy to trick or treaters.

  8. Sorry, guys. This is worse than Ianello ball. I'll watch some more first halves this year, no reason to waste 3 hours. Hope for vast improvement next year.

  9. Hey MP! Yeah, the team started play in 2001 under Coach Catherine Byrne, and improved each of the first three seasons with a 8-9-1 2003 year. Things went South the next two seasons, but the 2006 team posted the first winning season at 11-7-0, but still 4-7-0 in the MAC. The beat New Mexico and Kent State that year and won their first 6 matches. .Chris Pfau took over the Head Coach position in 2009 and promptly posted a 9-7-2 record and went 7-3-1 in the MAC to win their only East Championship. They played some great teams that year in non-conference matches - Kentucky, Creighton, Nebraska, Cincinnati. After an 0-2-1 start to MAC play they won 7 of their next 8 and 6 in a row to clinch the title. Britni Back was a huge part of that, as was Rachel Phillip and Jordan Baranowski. Katie Wise had 3 or 4 match winners that year as a freshman, I believe. The team went to 5-5-1 in MAC play the following season and 4-5-2 the next before Pfau left, and Vernon Croft took over for 3 disastrous seasons, with poor recruiting and style of play. Noreen Herlihy took over in 2015. It's always been a puzzle to me and several fans I know as to how a school with a storied program like Akron on the men's side, can't produce the same on the women's side. We always thought that they should have promoted Caleb to "Director of Soccer Operations in 2010 after the first star on our kits and promote Jared and have Caleb oversee both Men's and Women's programs....pipe dreams!

  12. Wow....another goal to make it 3-0 at 89:22 Zips could be in sole possession of first place in the league after tonight Northern Illinois leads Western Michigan 2-1 on their home field at half time If NIU holds on for win, top 4 in league would be: Akron 2-0-1 2. NIU 2-1 2. SIU-E 2-1 4. WMU 1-1-1 if NIU holds on, that will make the Nov. 2 game against NIU....the biggest game of the year..... great win tonight....by the Zips..... they played without Marco Milanese.....and they still got a clean sheet way to go, ZIPS

  13. Ohio Court of Claims doesn't have jury trials. He would have to get past a summary judgment motion first. Anyway, this has gone off the rails. Unfortunate situation. Hopefully, they can quietly resolve this.

  15. I think the torrential rain forecast for tomorrow in Chicago can only help the Zips. Or not.

  16. I think his injuries and surgeries are well documented, so the fact that he refused medical transport at the scene probably is of no import. As well, the other guy was convicted of a crime, so liability as to HIM is well established. Whether he can hold the University liable is the question. He will probably need more than his own testimony to make the racism case. But I think as a general principle of liability the University may be somewhat on the hook. They will, of course, claim they are not liable for the CRIMINAL act of another. But they *may* get nailed for the coach not controlling the atmosphere. Remains to be seen. I am surprised he did not name the guy who hit him as a defendant. There is no finding of fact as to him to go to a jury, just an inquest as to damages (because of the criminal conviction). A lot of times people go for that to get a judgement, in case the guy wins the lottery or gets a pro contract or inherits money or whatever.

  17. FF: Just when you think all hope is lost, a spark of inspiration ignites the flame of victory. Alvin Davis gets two picks and the Zips win 17-14

  18. Offense: I would rather see more 12 personnel (thinking protection) than 22, not sure we have the roster right now to run 22, plus I don't want to see it (boring). I thought Decavilon Reese has looked good in his ten carries averaging 4.3 yards a carry. I would like to see more of him. Not a big fan of all the motion, and trying to disguise our personnel pre-snap. Lineup, and let the QB read the defense. Simplify. In my limited viewing of Gibson, it seems like he knows where his options to throw are, and makes the most of it. Get him some time to do so. Defense: What a shame for our defense to receive little encouragement from ZN members after holding a team to 7 points while spending the majority of the game on the field. Yes, they need to get more pressure on the QB, but did they need to pressure Vantrease? The defense limited him to 65 yards passing the entire game. Six...five, when was the last time that happened??? They were actually very effective switching between the 3-4, and 4-3. Lost in a poor performance by the offense, was an effective defense. I could point out some minor things, but this group was by far the best of the team last week. Special Teams: Get better at making field goals, and getting positive yards on punt returns. Momentum and field position are dependent upon this group. Go Zips!

  19. Leipold made the jump just fine. A good coach is a good coach.. It's just an easy talking point to say he isn't ready yet. I'm not saying he's a great hire or not yet, but to make any sort of conclusion this year is premature.
