  1. WOW! Never thought after all these years, nay decades of watching Akron football that I would ever see another one of these. Not mad just really disappointed, deflated and on and on. I was hoping that Arth might be able to bring in some additional kids, add to what was already there and have the team show improvement from September to November. The scary thing is that there appeared to be no improvement over the season in O-line play, running game or QB play on that side of the ball. The defense was still unable to stop the run OR the pass consistently. Little pass rush, leaky secondary and not much ability to stop the run. Again, little if any improvement from start to finish. There were a few kids who played well at times thats true. But,since we saw little improvement during the season,I am now very concerned about how this program can 'bounce back' next season. What is going to be a 'strength' on either side of the ball. Very concerned.

  3. When the team gets a penalty because the band is playing when the other team is running a play it is probably time to call it a season.

  4. We all know there is nothing new here, so why bring in Dyer to cherry pick another story to "expose."? Let Marla Ridenour or George Thomas write this story if they want. And is it really a front page Sunday story? I'm as critical as many about the new regime and some of the past decisions, but I prefer to hear it from people who are around the subject on a consistent basis.

  5. Your a pretty hardcore guy. Take a chill pill. Fanboy or whatever you call this young man remember he is a human being ... try some respect. And if you feel football is not for UA than just stop posting.

  6. I'm guessing he's probably a preferred walk-on. But I added him to the initial post.

  7. Great shots again, Good Doctor! Thank you!! 1. Josh Ward is an amazing human being who makes me proud he's got AKRON written on his chest. I'm going to miss him. 2. Great shot on the 40-yard obvious pass interference no-call on the first (?) play of the game. 3. I hope that's the last we see of that stupid Turnover Pencil. I hate that thing. And it's dangerous. Good grief, I'm beginning to sound like @clarkwgriswold. Get off my lawn!!!

  8. Not many positives last night. I will mention that freshmen Adetutu Daranijo led the team with 10 tackles, 8 solo. If you appreciate defensive line play, once again, Davon'te Jest had another great game. It's a shame his efforts get lost in the final score. Go Zips!

  9. Rumor has it that the football stadium is going to be renamed Ept Stadium. That way the location of all home games on future schedules will be shown as Inept.

  10. AHA! I think i have spotted the problem. The two benchmarks with the largest bonus included in Arth's contract are limiting blocked punts and yards allowed on kick-off returns. The guy is a coaching genius.

  11. You look at a kid like Alvin. All offenses needed to really do is keep away from him for 4 quarters and they could score at will against us. Tgere will be very little film highlights for him to help scouts find what he can do. Hopefully, his film from the previous 2 years will help.

  12. Jerry was great in The King of Comedy in a dramatic role. Its one of Scorsese's best movies. Regarding the Dyer column, it was a bit of a pile-on, but he isn't wrong. One outstanding head coaching hire would make a huge difference in how the students and the community looks at Akron football.

  14. We’re losing Junk, Johns & Long this upcoming year & wondering who’s going to fill in at the tight end spot. Wolfley is returning but with missing 5 games this year, will he be able to stay healthy? We tend to keep at least one tight end, maybe even two tight ends on the field. Saw Abdou Diop (JUCO TE out of ASA Brooklyn) took a visit. Kenyon Sholty is returning (Redshirted this year, transfer from Indiana State.). However, we only have one 2020 commit so far. Not looking like a lot of depth/ D1 experience for such an important position.

  15. What a financial disaster this is. The first mistake was firing Bowden with 2 years left on his contract, $630,000 down the drain. Can we bring him back for next year since we’re still paying him another year? The second mistake was hiring Tom Arth away from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a $370,000 buyout clause. The third and biggest mistake was giving Tom Arth a 5 year deal at $500,000 per year. He wasn’t doing anything spectacular at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to merit that kind of money. This is a financial disaster and there’s no way to fix it other than enduring the pain for the next 3-4 years. The only thing to do is cut costs. No matter how bad Tom Arth does, even if he goes 0-12 in 2020, he’ll be back again in 2021 and 2022, regardless of going 0-12 3 years in a row. It’s unreal how he got an underserved $2million contract. What was the University thinking??? I’m so grateful that I graduated in 2008 and don’t have to pay for this crap. I feel bad for the students that do. What a disaster this is. Those that wanted Bowden fired, this is all on you. I hope you’re happy. 18. What an atrocious hire. Even if he ends up building this thing into a decent program, which I don't see happening and have no reason to believe it will, you just can't go 0-12 in 2019. Especially in the MAC East.

  19. I think your concern would be better justified by focusing on just about any other position. Akron has a tradition of ignoring the tight end as a passing option. With the Zips offensive scheme, just about any interior lineman could fill the position of tight end. I have previously suggested that we rename the position "Decoy" to no avail.

  20. Exactly what I was thinking. For as much as Kato & Gibson were hurried, seemed like a quick dump down over the middle or to the flat to a TE would have been more prevalent this season.

  23. However you feel about Dyer's story, apparently UA doesn't give a damn. 21,414 announced attendance tonight. Ridiculous. Did they buy ANOTHER 5,000 seats they couldn't give away?

  24. Arth killed all reason for hope this season. They now have to restore it. Ultimately that can only be done with W's, not excuses or justifications. Those were all used up this season. Williams bears responsibility here also. He staked his credibility on a guy whose claim to fame was that he beat Mount Union (once) and got JCU into the DIII national semi-final game. Other than that what are his achievements? I now seriously doubt his ability to coach, his ability to lead and his ability to hire good assistants, which I have seen none. To have your top assistant (coach Z) in charge of the worst performing unit (OL) on the field does not inspire confidence. I think Zip nation has been more than supportive. Next season he must show he can wins games. I feel lower now than when iCoach ruined the program. He was obviously incompetent, but I actually had hope Arth would demonstrate he is a program builder. If football didn't drain all other athletic budgets I would just say screw it. Yet as long as it is pathetic all other programs will suffer. That's a tragedy because many other teams are excellent or getting there.

  29. Well. I can say I was here to support the team. I’m a diehard. But I think I’m out & just gonna catch the 2nd half at home. Now I’m just hoping Gibson doesn’t get hurt.

  31. OL and DL are by far the biggest areas of need by a huge margin. It's almost impossible to really assess what we have at QB/RB/WR and DB/LB/Safety this year. On the offensive side, we can't block very well at all, so the QB has no time to let a play develop and find the open receiver, the RB's have virtually nowhere to go and the WR's can't even finish routes completely most of the time. On the defensive side, our complete lack of pressure on the opposing QB forces our DB's to try to cover receivers WAY too long. Even the best DB's can only cover for a certain amount of time before getting beat. Our LB's have done a decent job, but I think they are undersized for the most part, especially when running a 3-4 which requires LB's to make more tackles.

  36. https://theathletic.com/1397407/2019/11/21/grand-canyon-u-basketball-student-section-party/?source=shared-article An NAIA team in the 90s, just turned into a DI program, already selling out their arena and has a bigger student body attendance record than Akron has normal attendance. A basketball tradition created out of thin air - great article. Something I also agree with is get rid of the student section behind the hoop, move it to the side, and give them the best seats and create an environment they actually want to go to. When students start showing up more than the old folks, you at least have a good atmosphere.

  37. Single game tickets are outrageous, I'd agree. The value comes in getting season tickets, but that also means your're committing to go to more than 1 game. That said, price isn't a deterrent for students as admission costs are already built into their student fees and I saw maybe 150 students at the game Tuesday. I'm not sure why we don't see better promotions such as a $1 dog night. Those type of events seem help draw fans to Rubber Duck games. Also selling alcohol at the JAR would open up opportunities like having a craft beer night which could appeal to the younger alumni.
