  1. I'll give you the second half of that statement, that the Zips now have QB depth. I haven't yet seen anything from the guys on the roster however to show me that any of them is yet a viable winning D1 QB. Maybe in time but not yet.

  4. Exactly. The MAC is currently 15th in the NET rankings (between Patriot League and CAA). Drake, out of the 11th ranked MVC is 16-1 with a low-30s NET and is widely considered to be very bubble-ish, but nowhere near a lock. The sad fact is that in college basketball today, fans love to see the "Cinderallas" in the tournament, but the powers that be continue to move the goalposts, making it harder for teams outside the P5 to get in without winning their conference tournaments. That being said, absolutely right the MAC sucks this year. 7 teams in the bottom half of the NET rankings and only 4 in the top 100, paced by Toledo's mediocre 61 ranking. The Zips have a maximum of 8 remaining regular season games. Winning out would put them at 17-4 headed into the MAC tournament with a likely ceiling of upper 50s, low 60s NET rankings. Probably a 13 or 14 seed if we get the MAC bid.

  5. On the schedule listing they should put an asterisk next to the name of the team having COVID issues. ?

  6. I hope he can be a shutdown corner. That would be a huge addition. God knows we need it.

  8. It wasn't the absolute bottom. The absolute bottom was the way Ianello left it.

  9. I hope that doesn't happen -- and have heard no mention. The NIT is an opportunity for mid-majors like Akron to make an impact against "name" schools, as Temple, Fla St., Arkansas and Houston have learned. This year's event, with no attendance (or very limited) might give mid-majors the rare chance to host a high major, since gate receipts don't count. I know some like to diss it, but I enjoy the NIT for having quality competition and fewer blowouts than the NCAA.

  10. The NET rating is only 3 years old and there wasn't even a tournament played last year. That means only once has the selection committee picked a tournament field with the NET ranking being used as a metric. You might have NET confused with RPI.

  11. I still thinks we need to grab an experienced QB from the transfer portal.

  12. Leaf Home Solutions grew 80% organically in 2020 and total revenue for that group of companies is now over 1.1 billion. 13. If our at large chances were ever greater than 0, they certainly hit 0 when we lost to EMU. And then NIU

  14. The MAC this season is the worst it has been in a number of years. No team is going to come close to sniffing an at-large bid at least in the NCAAT. Akron would be a bubble team for the NIT currently.

  15. Building a team from the absolute bottom requires time and patience. Unfortunately, you're not guaranteed success only hope. This team will begin to blossom in 2022. 2019 was a disaster, absolute dumpster fire. 2020 was more competitive and the kids got better. Now just need to keep them around and have them grow together. One more year of learning and growing pains. I think Nelson and Gibson will be at the top of the depth chart coming out of the spring. Then Irons will get some looks in fall camp. The bottomline is that the QB position is now a position of strength with the depth being built.

  16. I sure hope your hunch is correct! I am done being high on Zips qbs... I really thought Woody was going to be the next "star". Its been rough since Getsy left, minus that year of Dalton Williams....

  17. That's 6 losses in a row for BG. So much for the pre-season MAC champs.

  19. I have a novel idea- the best guy starts. Whoever runs the offense best in the pre-season starts the season at QB. I don't care whether it's a 12th year redshirt senior or an early entry freshman.

  20. Saw an old episode of Password (thanks Covid ?) where the clue was Ohio and the contestant said Akron. Odd they didn't pick Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus but at least the partner got it.
