I can’t believe this argument is still going on. It is what it is, it’s the system as it is designed. If you find yourself in the bottom 10 of FBS your probably not filling the seats in the stadium and need money games to survive The goal is to find that coach that can make the culture change (which at Akron would be a huge accomplishment) start to win & compete for MACC on a regular basis and create some excitement about the program and put butts in the seat. once this happens you become more selective in your money games. Bowden almost did it. He didn’t use all the social media platforms and advertising to build the excitement but he got to the MACC & we got more selective the year we had Nebraska & Northwestern and he blew his opportunity (I believe his stint at Clemson taught him to get people to use all the tools available) had to start over, unfortunately at this time it doesn’t appear Arth is capable, we probably will have our answer by end of next season, IMHO he is using all the tools available during season but is doing absolutely nothing in off season to drum any excitement up and he took the I will build it my way approach and cleaned house instead of using what you have & using the portal to speed the process up like Bowden did to better compete Unfortunately if he doesn’t take the next step to being competitive we will be starting the process over again and we will see what Guthrie is worth cause picking the right guy is HUGE, it isn’t easy4 points

The CITY as a whole is the problem Crime in Akron is up, at this point in 2019 24 people had been murdered, in 2020 that number was 36, and so far in 2021, 39 people have been murdered. From year to date in 2019 police responded to 332 shooting incidents, in 2020 that number was 527 and so far in 2021 we are at 532. Through August police seized 916 guns, that’s a 60% increase compared to last year.2 points

Hello all! First post here, nice to meet you all. I'm a season ticket holder (first year!) and glad I found an online community of fellow Zip fans! Would be a nice win this weekend. Ohio is 0-4, so there is a chance! Starting off MAC play 1-0 would be great! Also, since I am bringing a group of people with me, we want to do some tailgating. What are the best lots? Thank you. GO ZIPS!2 points

I'm only grumpy when I miss short putts. I'll admit the old part. I think at 2 wins in 3 years we've reached maximum regression.1 point

Sexy? Aroused? Don’t let me interrupt anything, but I am hoping they keep the gold alternate jersey.1 point

I actually don't mind the Script Akron on the basketball uniform, and while I don't love the font of the numbers and the huge trim stripes, I'm cool with that new navy jersey. I'm a big fan of the black jerseys we got last year, though they would look a lot better on a navy base. However, on the football helmets, I hate it. Hard to read and doesn't look like anything. I miss the big fat Z decals or the Fear the Roo logo w/ the numbers that they wore a few times. Sexy as hell.1 point

I am personally a big fan of the script Akron on the jerseys. To me it's classic and should be the staple for any retro-type event. That said, people like a little variety now and then. Let's hope they hit the mark with something fresh and new.1 point

Not long ago Akron spent $65 million on a new stadium. That money wasn't spent so games could be moved to Canton.1 point

Terry Bowden took on a program that was 0-10 last year and is already 2-1 with two meaningful wins… he has as many wins in 2 games as Tom Arth has at Akron in 21 games. I THINK WE NEED TO TRY A NEW WAY TO “REBUILD” or we will be FCS before we know it1 point

I just get general admission tickets, but you can always sit right on the 50-yard line in the upper deck on the visitor’s side. The seats are pretty awesome.1 point

Lots 9 and 10 are best for tailgating. Irons is out for concussion protocol. May be cleared by Saturday. Nelson will start if he doesn't have any setbacks. Gibson played well in the 3 minutes he did play on Saturday. Looked composed and confident. Our QBs are not our problem.1 point

More like hey you got to play in a game on one of the biggest stages in college football. Be grateful for the opportunity and ignore the non paying alums who believe we should rather play shitty broke no name schools that have poor game attendance like us.1 point

Not enough to ensure we keep our D-I status, but I plan to fill a row or two (possibly more if the weather is nice).1 point

I mean, other than the checks being cut during weeks 1-4, it already is that way. The "non-conference" schedule has morphed into the "preseason schedule." All we're waiting on now is for the "haves" to formalize it. And if these super conferences are finalized before the CFP expands to 8+ teams, we can probably kiss goodbye any opportunity for G5 teams to gain access. Would be cool if FBS pulled off some sort of relegation system like European professional soccer, but the odds of that are probably worse than mine are for winning the Powerball jackpot tomorrow.1 point

The following year, when Lee Owens was hired was the year I really started following the Zips closely. But I remember that game. I had hope for the Zips' future then (yep, hope's been springing in my heart for 27 years) because in that game the Zips started a true-freshman QB named Brian Magrell (sp?) & came away with the epic W. Brian's one of the better athletes to have come out of my proud alma mater, Green HS. (That's not saying a whole lot 😂)1 point

I definitely will! My family is all from Tennessee, and my cousin and I were both in college at Akron and UT when they played last. Looking forward to making the journey down there again1 point

You're right about Childs. It looks as if he's their #2 RB. Against Washington (his first game as a Grizzly) he had 9 rushes for 39 yards (4.33 average). His transfer was, to me, the most unexpected, surprising transfer I've ever seen. His senior year in HS he chose us over Kansas State, and on social media was 100% all Zips up to his eyeballs. I thought he'd be a team captain by the time he was a junior. Then he got to campus for summer training/fall camp, and transferred out before the season even began (IIRC). Totally weird. But following him on social media he really seems positive and level headed; not at all flaky; a future Mr. President type of young man. (Much like LePear Toles, if you're at all familiar with his social media presence.) Big red flag for the UA staff? I still don't know what to make of it, as he seems to be precisely the type of athlete/person the current staff is targeting, and there are other positive, mature, true student-athletes on the team who seem to be loving it (e.g., Snowden).1 point
