Keith’s father Sid passed away yesterday. It was always a cool to see him around and to see their father/son relationship and the influence it had on Keith as a coach. Check out this cool photo of them that was posted on social media8 points

Our OL play almost makes the QB question irrelevant. Charlie Frye, Butchie Washington or Luke Getsy would have been in the transfer portal by week two if they were playing behind this crew. But if I were to play along... Irons had two fumbles that were recovered by Buffalo inside the Zips 10 yard line, and fumbled another out of the endzone. That's terrible. Kato's ball security is equally as suspect when he's deep in his own territory. Gibson beat BG, and moved the ball well against Miami. At Miami, the bungling and penalties that constantly killed Zips drives weren't his fault. No one can debate that Irons is a better, more elusive runner than Gibson. But you can debate that Irons' "lows" are much deeper that Gibson's. And their "highs" aren't all that different. Give me a QB that knows the importance of ball security. I don't think that Irons did anything to put a lock on the QB position. Personally, I'd start Gibson. He's proven to be solid, and he only got pulled last week because of Arth's feeling that Irons was the better option. Not because he did anything wrong. I'd take Norrils at RB. He has some speed, and he's strong enough to break some tackles.3 points

Nice size @Blue & Gold. That’s what we need. Though I wonder if we should get too invested in the staff’s class this year as they may get fired and it’ll all fall apart lol.2 points

6-2, 230 LB Rough looking hombre. Wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley. JCGridiron ranked him as the #2 JUCO ILB preseason.2 points

All I know is that benching Gibson was a BIG mistake. He may not be dynamic as Irons but clearly has more control of the offense. To bench him when the score was 0-0 is just awful coaching decision. How in hell can these kids gain any confidence when they get pulled after a slow start. Irons had 5 fumbles (3 lost) , 1 INT, a 15yd Personal Foul and that is the guy they want leading this team??? No wonder Akron will not or cannot win. This team has some talent that will be in the portal by December because of the inept coaching staff.2 points

The real problem is hiring coaches who aren't capable of keeping at risk kids in check. The problem is Akron wants to believe it can run the football program like ND, a suburban league team or FSU. It's shocking we have had two coaches that worked at Notre Dame and a third hired by someone from ND. I think the importance of the private schools in and around Akron weight too heavily on the minds of decision makers. We need to hire a coach who sees the kids and school differently. This will allow that coach to bring in the kind of player who can be successful at Akron. JD was the closest Akron had to understanding kids suitable for a school like Akron because of his time at Pitt but he came from the wrong background to really connect. Later I'll elaborate on the kind of coach we need and why. The answer isn't another Catholic school coach.1 point

I scheduled something for Friday night then last night it dawned on me that the Zips play (I think on espn+). Obviously, I promptly cancelled my other engagement. Nothing comes before Zips basketball.1 point

They're only playing a handful of intra-squad scrimmages. So it hasn't intrigued me at all. I would have gone to a game or two if they were playing other schools.1 point

This I actually understand. Irons, with his mobility, was sacked 12 times. I don’t know if Gibson would have survived, and I think that’s why he was pulled.1 point

As the season began and Akron looked improved to an extent, I had some hope that Arth would convince me that we were a year away from him making some kind of breakthrough. However, after a glimmer of hope against BG that made me forget how atrocious the Ohio game was, I am fully out on Arth once again. I get that his freshmen are still underclassmen, but they have a lot of experience at this point for being so young. The offensive line is just as porous as it was in 2019, though there are a couple of flashes of good protection. The defense still gives up a billion points. I would agree on the QB play being a good bit better, but still not consistently good, the running game has shown flashes, but the best RB since Dennis Kennedy flared out with a legal issue and since then it's been a revolving door with a couple of good performances. I think the receiving corps is good enough to be considered decent in the MAC, but Saturday saw a horrible performance from them in their few chances to catch the ball. And overall, the penalties and lack of discipline are starting to show up again. I do not think Arth is by any means getting worse, or the team is getting worse, it's just far too similar to what we've seen for I think 26 games now. Saturday was nothing short of appalling. There was zero hope of a win and the Norrils TD was simply a spritz of mild deodorant. Buffalo, who hired this coach 5 months ago and was without its best running back, looked like the Alabama Crimson Tide against what is undoubtedly an improved Akron roster on paper. Throw in the second half against Ohio, first quarter against BG, and pretty much the entire Miami game, and you can very clearly see a lack of competence. If you're brave enough to go to the Ball State game, make your way down to the front row behind the Akron bench, closer to maybe the 10-15 yard line on either side. You'll get as clear a look as you can possibly get of the coaching staff, particularly when Akron is on defense. You should hear how helpless Feeney & Co. are and you should see the horrid body language on the players after giving up another quick and easy score. Let's look at the other MAC programs who hired head coaches before the 2019 season. BG and NIU. BG was in a closer situation to Akron having fired their coach instead of him leaving. Sub par 2019 seasons, BG beat Akron 31-6 and NIU beat Akron 49-0. Last year, Akron went 1-5 and BG and NIU combined to go 0-11 or 0-12, I can't remember exactly but the point still stands. All three programs are loaded with young players, and BG did fairly well in the transfer portal going into 2021. NIU has the best record in the MAC and BG and Akron are in the basement all with an unreal amount of freshman. NIU has found the kind of players they need and they don't try to do too much or prove any points. They just play their game. If you get the chance, go watch them play at Kent on 11/3. It could be a good one and you can see what a couple of successful rebuilds look like. Sorry for rambling. To make a long story a lot shorter, Arth has had adequate time to at least set a foundation of success, but given how 3 of the 4 MAC games have gone this year in addition to the Temple destruction and Bryant scare, it is clear to me that he is not capable of getting Akron to a place of sustained success. We are too far along to be losing MAC games by 35 points. Next up, he has the red hot defending MAC champs coming to town, then a trip to Pitt's only loss, then hosting his rival who has no other goal then to kick his ass. I have a hard time seeing any of these games be close. That's why I'm out.1 point

They are playing fall ball. The only way you'd know is if you checked Twitter, which I don't have a habit of doing very often. I'm more a Facebook guy, but there's no updates there since July.1 point

I am not sure what reality you are loving in. 11 sacks by Buffalo and blowout after blowout. If Bowden's performance was unacceptable, how on earth can you want to wait longer for Arth? How bad does it have to get?1 point

The Zips take it 4-0. They are playing well at the right time of the year. Since the loss to Georgia State, they are 3-0-1 and outscored their opponents 11-2.1 point
