  1. I'm a little concerned that I'm not seeing any Ohio Athletic Conference or Southern Conference experience.

  2. Maybe the ABJ can hire to replace GT and save some $$$

  3. Toth also being the linebackers coach makes sense, especially in recruiting. He can always have "I coached Von Miller" in his recruiting pitches to linebackers.

  4. B&G, FYI for page 1. In the transfer portal, it says Devon Robinson is eligible immediately, not having to sit a year. I apologize if I am wrong. Thanks again for all of the great updates! In Joe We Trust!

  7. Happy to see him offered by Akron. He certainly was one of the best high school QBs I have seen in recent years. Also excited to see my alma mater recruiting Central Ohio again and not letting other MAC schools continue out-recruiting the Zips here.

  8. The eyes will be on Ali and Freeman. Their matchups with Vander Plas and Jason Carter are my keys to the game. Take VP out of the game, force him to take contested jumpers and pick him up as deep as 28-feet. He can and will take those and make them all night long. Ali is plenty athletic to keep up with him and run him off the line. As for Carter, when he made his JAR debut in his first stint with the Bobcats a thousand years ago, Big Dog kept him in check on the boards. If Freeman can force him outside and make him beat us with his outside shot, I'm there for it all day long. The Zips dominated OU in their trip to the JAR last year by making them uncomfortable on offense for 40 minutes. They had to work so hard to get good looks, and by the end of the game they were gassed. I'm excited for a high-level ball game. Here's to hoping Trimble is back and He and X have their shot.

  12. I hear everything you are saying about an expanded playoff but you neglect to consider one thing... and that is why the G5 is so inferior to the P5 in the first place.. a lot of things would change with G5 conference champions having inclusion in a national playoff, you would see better fan interest, better recruiting, and possibly even better coach retention. While most of the country now will only see the 63 schools that make up the elitist conferences, if there was to be legitimately possible inclusion of the other 67 programs it would only serve to close the very gap that you are stating as the reason it should not happen. Will Akron ever be an Alabama or Ohio State in our lifetimes? Most likely not but with all conference inclusion in a playoff there would be a lot more Boise State, Cincinnati and Central Florida type teams out there. As it stands now I don’t know why recruits would choose a MAC school over a FCS school but if the MAC was guaranteed a rep in the playoff every year that would go against the best that college football has to offer then I can see the recruiting advantage. Sure, it would likely be tough and not all that entertaining for those of us pulling for the underdog in the beginning but given a little time things would become much more competitive. By the way, you say 16 teams but I am a proponent of 14 teams, which would allow those very top teams to be playing to get those two first round byes that were the one bit of true excitement the old BCS got right and to cut down on player opt outs and irrelevance in late season games. If we would have had a 14 team NFL style (all champs in and seeded above wild cards/at larges) playoff this year the matchups would have been greatly entertaining. 1 Alabama ... bye 9 Utah State at 8 UTSA 12 Ohio State at 5 Utah 13 Notre Dame at 4 Baylor 14 Oklahoma State at 3 Cincinnati 11 Georgia at 6 Pittsburgh 10 Northern Illinois at 7 Louisiana 2 Michigan... bye Does it produce a different champion? Maybe not.. Is that really the point though? No.... It’s about rewarding the programs that accomplished what should be their primary goal which should be a conference championship. Secondly inclusion can only help the balance of competition overall. I don’t want to see the bowls go away either but right now there are 84 bowl slots for 130 teams, would having that number drop from 84 to 70 really be that detrimental if playoff games also went up from 3 to 13?

  14. Zips -1.5. I’d personally take the points if I were a betting man. Zips are 3-1 ATS at home against D1 competition, including 2-0 as home doggies. However, this is the best team the Zips have faced since they opened the season in Columbus.

  16. I would love to see March Madness become a play in tournament this year. Since so many games are going to be cancelled just stage a tournament like they do for highschool. Just start with every team in each conference playing a single elimination tourney and just carry it through to the final 4.

  18. I'll say thank you. This is important. Again...we are dealing with a brand new virus that has been clearly linked to cardiovascular and nervous system issues that is infecting vast majorities of the population. I see people with mild to moderate symptoms joking about how they've lost sense of taste and smell. Guess what? That means the virus is in your brain. What does that mean down the road? We're a long way away from fully understanding the repercussions of this pandemic. Will everyone, at some point, be infected with some version of this virus? Probably. But resigning ourselves to that fate is a dangerous move. These conversations are necessary, even here. I find those that become defensive and turn to insults in these situations tend to be the ones that believe they know better than experts with years of education, experience and expertise. “Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'” ― Isaac Asimov

  19. Arth may well land a decent position in football and be very successful. Being a D1 football coach was just not right for him. Wherever he ends up I wish him well as he does seem to be a good guy.

  20. I'll weigh in since this thread has nearly completed a full swirly at this point. I have my vaccine and booster and regularly mask. I am confident I could survive the virus, but I don't do these things for me. I do them for my immune compromised spouse, my co-worker battling cancer, the senior that volunteers for me.... Like NWAkron said, there's a middle ground. Also, I opt to rely on the scientists as opposed to talk show hosts, grandstanding politicians and internet whackos. To get us back on topic, the current MAC Standings: Ohio 1-0 Akron 1-0 Miami 1-0 Ball State 1-0 CMU 1-0 Toledo 1-1 Brimfield 1-1 EMU 0-0 N. Illinois 0-0 BG 0-1 Buffalo 0-2 WMU 0-2

  21. I've heard that Coach M sticking around Oregon to finish the season is generating positive opinions of him in high school coaching circles. Coaches want to believe a new coach is committed to a program when they advise a recruit to consider a school. His commitment to Oregon makes high school coaches believe he will be committed to Akron. Anything can happen, but this is a good start.
