I think the goal is to actually be in the Top 3 ... as it stands now 3-4-5 are Kent-Akron-Buffalo, I believe. All three teams should be considered darkhorse favorites after Toledo and Ohio. The 4-5 game is going to eliminate one of those darkhorses, so the better landing spot appears to be third. Falling down to sixth isn't a good option, either as that is a pairing vs. No. 3.3 points

I watched the replay and in hindsight he should have passed the ball to Ali since X had drawn the double team. He actually beat 2 guys but the 3rd Kent player forced him into a tough shot. Ali could have done a better job of moving without the ball and would have had a wide open 3. However, this is all hindsight. For the last shot I would want the ball in X hands. Kent played good defense.3 points

I still think this team is playing their best basketball of the season right now. The only problem is that they have been cold from the 3 line while their opponents have been shooting better from the 3 line. I did notice that when Akron switches on a screen we often end up with Aziz on a shooter and it is a total mismatch. Aziz give the shooter too much room and he shoots a wide open 3. How will the Zips react after losing to their rival at home and then having to travel to Michigan? I see this game as crucial for the Zips to stay in the top 4 for the tourney.2 points

No panties in our shantys! All sorts of ice fishing related drink specials around town last night. We have the “Tom Wistercill” of mayors in our town.2 points

Despite some enthusiasm on here, Mark Kostelac was never going to be a D1 player. Heck, he wasn't even all-conference in high school as a 7-footer. He moved onto Walsh and was relatively ineffective there for a year.1 point

I heard Freeman on post game radio talking about AZZiz and how they are best friends and how he thinks Azzis is going to be a great player. He then said you can tell that some players are going to be really good and that some players just never get it. I immediately thought of Kostelac in that latter group. I wish him well but I do not believe he ever made it as a contributor.1 point

I think they were too busy queuing up Kent highlights on the JAR big screen to realize Joe was in the house.1 point

We have five scholarships yet to give. Look for JoeMo to bring in more from the transfer portal after spring ball when players in P5 programs will find out they don't figure in the plans of their current schools. We will get a few more good players giving us a talent level that has grown exponentially over last year. In Joe we trust.1 point

On this note. Students showed out, great to see. I've said it before here - but student attendance is always pretty good. Step 1 was moving the rowdies to a bigger section off the baseline. Step 2 is making all of the other students sit in the same section. It happens organically at the Kent game - the second student section up top was pretty good. But on a normal game, there are still a decent amount of students that come for the free ticket and just scatter about all the GA sections. Maybe they won't be too rowdy, but if they're all together, they'll be a little more noticeable1 point

Cece Hooks did not play today for the Bobcats. She was injured during their previous game at NIU.1 point

We were out of time outs so Groce had to let the guys have at it. He probably called a play from the sideline, Idk. But in the postgame interview he said it was a 2-man play w/ X & Ali. Ali set the pick for X & then floated out to the wing. Groce said X could have passed to Ali but chose to take the shot himself. In looking at the replay it looked like Santiago may have been in the passing lane to Ali, so it may have forced X into a very difficult... let's just say it... bad shot.1 point

I was at the game last night and it was SO much fun!! The atmosphere was amazing! I won't touch on the Rowdies much as most have already said what I would say, but I loved them last night. They really got into it. And since Akron lost sadly, I personally feel the Kent players had every right to throw it back in their face at the end. Keep this rivalry heated, I say. Anyways, one thing of concern I saw was the amount of 3's the team took. I got a feeling it was "live by the 3, die by the 3" last night. Also, the last play of the game should have been drawn up better. Maybe it was actually, I don't know if it was a busted play or so, but I feel like they had plenty of time (20 secs, I think?) to try something a bit more strategic. All in all, great game! I'm ready for Cleveland in a few weeks!1 point

The transfer portal still has one 4* and ten 3* QBs looking for a new home. any of these guys strike you fancy?1 point

He fits their program better. He left Duquesne cause he's a head case. I can't wait for the day when he doesn't shoot 90% from the field. Akron gets in his head so easily, he'll have a meltdown. There was a moment last night where Groce told him to calm down after 1 or 2 things didn't go his way.1 point

Another thing that pains me greatly to say. Carry is a killer. We'd be tops on the MAC if we had a Carry1 point

I'd rather half of their chants not be cursing, though. I don't personally take offense or anything, but we want families bringing their kids back1 point

Love the Rowdies. Best student turnout and participation I’ve ever seen at the JAR, that felt like old times. I do not believe Kent is better than Akron, but they are tougher physically and they’ve played their best two games of the year against Akron. I’m hoping Akron has this same mentality in every game moving forward. Trimble was getting at it with Carry, Dawson was a junkyard dog, Freeman played one of the best halves of Akron basketball ever. It’s just a tough matchup for Akron for whatever reason. And props to Carry and Santiago. They answered the bell every time they needed to and Akron came away with a close L after a ton of missed opportunities. Akron is tough and resilient, they just lack that killer instinct like I said. When we were down 1 or 2, if Trimble would’ve buried the deep right wing three he took I think we would’ve won it. But X made a play then made a bad one. If he kicks it to Ali, fake gangster Carry is going home with his tail between his legs. Great effort. Hate to lose, absolutely brutal to be swept, but Kent played a near perfect game and Akron didn’t. On to WMU. Enjoy your weekends everyone, that was a ton of fun. Go Zips!1 point
