Iowa and VT always seem to struggle against FCS and lower FBS teams. Almost like every year one of them goes down, especially the Hokies. This year they lost to Old Dominion who most predicted to finish dead last in the Sun Belt. A win can be ugly, but as Zips fans we have no room to complain. 1-0.3 points

When I played youth ad high school football and other high school and college sports, coaches were always yelling. It turned out to be great experiences for my 35+ years of business career. As a matter of fact, all of the coaches said that yelling showed they cared, and we better get concerned if the yelling stops. Plus, if you whisper during a football game, nobody will hear you. I was valedictorian, and I remember one time I made a mental mistake in HS football practice and was dressed down and told that I could not pass a test; I was motivated. It is quite obvious that you never played sports past TBall since you never experienced constructive yelling. In all my years of coaching TBall and youth sports, I never yelled once, but that was not Division I sports.2 points

I watched Kent v. Washington. I thought Kent was better coached than us and had better talent. Based on what I saw in this first week we may have too big a gap to make up when playing the Flashes. They are the better team for now. There is much in our first game that was disappointing, primarily QB and OL. Both were terrible. Still, this is a marathon and JoMo knows that. He probably also knows he has a bigger rebuild than he thought. That's OK. We have the right coach and he will deliver. This could be a painful year, even when we get to the MAC play. Like others there were transfers I had hoped he would play. I don't know why he didn't get them in the game, but I trust his decisions despite dying to know why they weren't in. You gotta be tough to be a Zip fan......and we are. Enjoy soccer. Jared has a hell of a team that could see final four. Go Zips!2 points

Playing time must be found for Ashton Kamdem. Even though he is left footed (preference), Ashton also made 2 excellent entry passes into the box….while Ashton was playing out of position as a right back. Ashton has a nose for the goal and his left footed screamer was spectacular. When Malik Henry is 100 percent healthy and 100 percent fit, I want to see Malik Henry playing the full 90 minutes at right defensive back. Malik Henry is spectacular and provides great quality service into the box. Left defensive back is Ashton Kamdem’s natural position. I would like to see Ashton Kamdem starting for the zips at left back.2 points

While I agree with Irons having issues and not running him more as bewildering, I think last year’s team would have lost this game. I saw improvement along the defensive line and linebackers. In particular Jones, Wilson, and Harper at DL. Bubba and Terry at LB. Their fits were mostly on point and they flowed to the football. Fish also flashed a ton of potential. The secondary is a concern outside of Golden-Nelson, JKP, and Lewis. Those 3 were strong. Offensively, we have a strong WR corps and TEs. Whigan and Williams were very good along the OL, but the rest need work. Too bad I can’t say much about RBs as we only saw Wiley tote the ball and Price give up a sack. Glad your wife enjoyed the game!1 point

Was at the game. What I saw was not that much different from last season. Starting with QB play, Irons end of game numbers are deceiving. He still misses too many open receivers. He still holds too long. He is not accurate with intermediate passes. He got locked in on one receiver too much. I was surprised Moorehead didn't option him more, let him use his legs. Wouldn't be surprised if at the end of the season things are not going well, Moorehead will play one of 'his' recruits if it doesn't mean burning a redshirt season. I was surprised Moorehead didn't run more. Seemed Wiley was starting to get into a groove and the O-line still can't pass block. A little puzzling with the lay calling. Saint-Louis seems like the real deal though. The defense is still the defense. Little pass rush, can't handle a running QB,poor tackling and DB's out of position. But, it made a big play to save the game! Too bad the next three weeks are going to be well....you know. As I said pre-season, I want to see a better team in November than in September. Its going to take the coaching satff a while to figure out who can play at this level and who can't. But, at least my wife enjoyed the game!1 point

Well they played HARD for him. Didn't look like a group that hated their coach.1 point

I for one was impressed with the quality of their players. Some were outstanding and would look good in blue and gold.1 point

Guthrie 🥷 needs to send their players the Fan Experience Apology email. 😅1 point

If that comes to fruition, then that means there are quite a few P5s left on the outside looking in. If that's where this all ends up - lesser P5s joining G5s - I'm not mad about that. I think the 30-40 teams will ultimately hurt their product by being so exclusive. But until then, there is nothing wrong with the expansion and additional access to the Playoff for everyone.1 point

A $25 ticket is actually $31. Why not just say the price is $31? We felt like we were being scammed. I guess the AD realized how much money concert ticket sellers make by tacking on as many fees as they can. I would expect buying online would have extra fees, but buying at the gate? We'll watch from home now.1 point

Win is a win. Lot to clean up....but I think we can still be competitive in MAC play. Bunch of guys playing in a new system playing together in real action for the first time. I also thought St Francis didn't look too bad. Their grave mistake IMO was taking the #4 QB out of the game. He was multi dimensional and we couldn't contain him. Ran the RPO well. On to East Lansing....1 point

That's my only complaint too. I'm not crazy about even one non-D1 opponent, but two or more feels like what teams ranked 300 or lower do to keep their team from getting completely demoralized. But, filling a schedule is probably not easy - who knows, for example, if someone backed out at the eleventh hour. Some of you guys act like we can just name our opponent and venue. Bradley and South Dakota State - these two opponents are the ones that set this schedule apart from past ones. THESE are the type of schools we can challenge ourselves against but also can be scheduled to a home-and-home. It's like they created their own bracket busters. SDSU went undefeated in conference play, including their tournament (that being the Summit League, formerly the Mid-Continent Conference which Akron once played in). Bradley's was less successful, but played in a tougher conference. Both finished last year in the top 100 of KenPom (Akron was 126).1 point

...and if we have learned anything it is that it is all about getting ready for March and being second in the MAC does nothing for you with the tournament committee. Also, the OOC schedule has no impact on the MAC seed so load it up. I'd like the best seed possible in Cleveland but I'd prefer to be battle tested if they get to the NCAA tourney.1 point
