  1. I suppose he is probably the worst leading scorer to lead Akron to the NCAA tournament in school history. Can't argue with that. Thank God he left, we were far better without him anyway.

  2. And the last offensive foul on Freeman for an illegal screen was also horrible. I still think that foul cost us that game.

  3. Were all of those players elite MAC-level basketball players before they got to Akron? Hell to the no. Even in LCJ’s first year, he was not good. Ali was every bit the Akron Zip they were up until he left. And the questions of attitude and defense just don’t make any sense. Nor does the “hero ball” stuff. It’s almost like that team never won the 2022 MAC title sometimes. He was an elite defender and always played his tail off. And if Groce didn’t want him to do the “hero ball” that he has been accused of, he wouldn’t have done it. In re-living some of the 2022 postseason threads recently, @Illini Zip explained the Ali back to the basketball strategy as well as anyone. Basically, it wasn’t sexy and didn’t always work, but considering the circumstances that roster was put through, they somehow miraculously went on one of the best runs in program history with Ali Ali as the leading scorer and one of the 3 most impactful players on the roster. His play at the end of the UCLA game was awful. So was the decision to not call a timeout and let it play out like it did. Had Ali not gone portaling, he would have in all likelihood surpassed 1000 points in his career at Akron, been All-MAC, and been part of one of the best 3-headed monsters to return after winning a championship that the league has seen. I get that he left here and it was a stupid BS move. Easy to see from the moment it happened. But retroactively killing the guy and pretending like we weren’t salivating at the prospect of him being part of the core that was supposed to return for 22-23 is just…weird to read.

  4. Abby - great kid, but if she couldn't crack the rotating eight in this year's team, she wasn't going to in next year's. Sorry to see her go, but it's best for her and us too.

  5. I don't know about forever. What I do know is the freedom of movement of labor is a contributing factor in economic market dynamics. It creates an energy around markets and industries. It makes them more competitive, interesting and energetic. The transfer portal will prove to be one of the greatest things to happen to college athletics because it is a form of freedom of labor. It is a good thing for college athletics that it is April 19th and fans of CBB are still talking about their teams, and will continue to talk about their teams throughout the year because of the TP. Full disclosure, I won't be talking much about the TP because I don't care about the TP or recruiting in the same way others do....I don't want to see the sausage being made if you know what I mean.....but for a lot of people like you it is a great thing and that's good enough for me.

  10. Figured this one was coming. He said Akron was his leader going into his visit. Gage is a tackling machine.

  11. If Paige is a shorter version of Jacy Sheldon that is good enough for me. I watched Jacy play many times before and after her injury. She is fantastic. Paige is welcome here. Please use your influence and help coach Gensler to bring her to Akron.

  13. Some here seem to really take it personally when someone leaves UA, coach or player. I've never understood it. Some serious "jealous ex" vibes.

  14. I was hoping for Paige Kohler, but I forgot we have two point guards in this 2023 class already. Kohler reminds me of a shorter version of Ohio State's Jacy Sheldon for anyone that watched the NCAAW Tournament this year.

  15. Thats fair. Always a concern with JUCOs. Although, I really like Nunnally. Not sure why he didn’t have more offers, but that could be due to a slew of reasons when it comes to JUCO. On the bright side the two DEs look to be pretty versatile and could allow us to play more multiple fronts this year. Not to add any more fuel to the fire, but we’re probably not done adding JUCOs to this class.

  17. really good find, Fknbuflobo...... we are going to have to start calling you.....the recruit finder Kamden is mentioned in this attached article (and yes, I am looking forward to Kamden Held and Ashton Kamden being a dynamic duo for the zips) https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/article/?categoryId=26&articleId=51827&articleTitle=boys-club-standouts:-february-25-27 Michigan Jaguars 06 MLS NEXT – Oscar Huerta scored twice, helping the Jaguars best Chicago Fire by a 3-2 score. Braeden Backus had two assists, while Gavin McBride scored one and setup the other. Kamden Held, Chicago Fire 06 MLS NEXT – A pair of goals from Held served as consolation in the matchup against the Jaguars.

  19. We have different definitions of John Groce basketball at Akron. We have had 2 beloved home grown guys - Freeman & Tribble. Otherwise, LCJ, X2.0, X1.0, Cheese, Banks, etc., all came from other programs and finished their careers here. @Captain Kangaroo hit the nail on the head. If he is back at Akron next season, he needs to be more mature, humble, a better facilitator, and 1000% bought into Groce Ball. His "hero ball" plays need to be left at Butler.

  20. It is nothing short of thrilling to see a pathetic Zip program turn around and not only compete, but to thrive. Leadership/coaching is everything in college sports. All the more reason not to accept mediocrity in our sports. Congrats ladies!

  21. This past week Walsh Jesuit HS baseball played the top ranked team from Michigan & the game was broadcast for free on YouTube. The production was fantastic w/ 3-4 different camera angles & competent announcers. It was produced by a Michigan company (the announcers were slight homers for the Michigan team but nothing egregious). It was free. It was high school. I watched it on my 64" smart tv w/out a hitch. With stuff like this Idk how much longer ESPN is going to be relevant... or even a viable business model at all. Looks like sports production is really beginning to filter down to grass roots.
