I don't think Prather is a great loss but I will give that kid credit. He went from being Wilson's bench neighbor to playing meaningful minutes on his practice effort.3 points

For anyone who hates Akron's new A logo, it could be worse...3 points

I guess it's not safe to get excited until a player starts getting some meaningful minutes. And then you have the Dawson situation where his productivity fell off and left. And then the situation where Aziz Bandaogo leaves for a bigger school. So basically, it's just not safe to get excited. Who am I kidding. I'm still excited. Go Zips!!2 points

The “controlled scrimmage” is fine. Full contact. Offense vs. Defense. I enjoyed the last two Saturdays. Hardly any difference from a split squad scrimmage.1 point

UA and Vandy are my two favorite universities so it's really cool to see the portal working in their favor.1 point

Tom House is the white version of Sammy Hunter. I would LOVE that at our program. Sammy was so key to our runs in the last few years.1 point

Thanks for the update. That’s really disappointing to hear. Spring games are steadily dissolving across college football.1 point

The Prather news doesn’t shock me just based on his… well…. Skill. But I would love to bring in Drissa for a visit. Amani is not an acceptable backup big as the clear #2. Need depth there badly.1 point

We've been linked to these four, all of whom I believe are still uncommitted. Markus Harding (Central Michigan) Rashad Bishop (Georgetown College) Keenan Fitzmorris (Stony Brook) Drissa Trayore (St. Johns)1 point

This one is less shocking. There were signs last season that he might not be part of the future plans. Now go get another "big".1 point

If you like water, there are a lot of places to enjoy it here. The mile long pier in downtown Lorain is a really nice walk (even though it’s only a half mile one way). Put “Oasis Marinas” in your gps. Downtown Lorain is making a comeback. There are several parks and beaches along the shore in Sheffield Lake and Avon Lake. You’ll never run out of places to eat and shop. It’s been fun living here. If only the Zips were coming to the tourney…1 point

I believe he was committed to Toledo before his recruiting took off and signed with Kentucky. Edit: Went back and did a little digging. He ran a 4.48 at a UA camp. Track speed doesn’t always correlate to the football field, but that’s impressive for a guy 6’3” 190lbs. He certainly looks fast on film, so enough of that speed must carry over.1 point

Agreed. We feel very thin/unproven at the 5 and to an extent the 4. We must be planning to play a lot of small ball. I guess the staff could have really high expectations for Brisco. He was pretty well recruited as well.1 point

Figured this one was coming. See if we can land him second time around. WR Ardell Banks redshirted at UK.1 point

It's not uncommon for redshirt freshmen (like Baker) who hit the portal to spend a year at a JUCO. They get 30-35 games of experience, quite likely graduate, then have three years of D1 ahead of them. Frankly, I don't understand why mid-majors in particular don't recruit this gold mine more actively.1 point

If I waited an entire season to play, expecting to get substantial PT in 2024-25...and then found out my team just recruited a bunch of upperclassman...and, I can transfer elsewhere without sitting out...I would be moving on to greener pastures faster than a rolled up tee shirt to NW Akron's skull. Tribble, Freeman and Ali were complete dinosaurs, graduating as seniors from the same school they began their college careers. In today's NIL/Portal era no kid is going to wait his turn for playing time. As Chris Rock once said - "You're only as faithful as your options". Kid's options are endless today. I'm ecstatic with the caliber of talent and experience Groce has signed in the past week. He had to do it, because today's AD's don't have the patience of AD's from even just 5 or 6 years ago. It's a business on both ends now...the kids can pack their bags and leave as they please...and coach's can eschew player development by bringing in bucketloads of new, seasoned talent before they can even sweep up the confetti from the previous squad's conference championship.1 point

This is exactly why I've been saying if you think a player is good enough to give you 5-10 minutes, there is no point in red-shirting in today's game. It's better to use scholarships on players you can help you now as there is no promise of a tomorrow.1 point

There are good things coming to Baseball. Rome wasn't built in a day. We just need to stay the course.1 point

I guess they saw everybody complaining about the 4 hour college football games last year and decided to make them 4 and a half hours!1 point

FYI, this Saturday will not be a game in the traditional spring variety. It will be a controlled practice. There will be no type of scores kept. No blue team vs gold team.0 points
