I’ve seen so many losses over the past 6 years. More than any fan should endure by a mile. Can the Zips throw this old guy one bone and win a MAC game? Please?4 points

again, 2 minutes after the win you begin running down the coach, etc. Why don't you give it a rest for a few hours. Such a buzz kill.3 points

What soccer recruit with any desire to see the pitch would want to be the 23rd scholarship kid at Ohio State (or anywhere else)? 28 soccer scholarships is insane.3 points

No game thread for yet another notable Big East opponent, so I'll start one. I am excited for potential win #9 in a row, and we are undefeated on the road so far. Is this a trap game before heading to UConn next week? Marquette is 6-5-4 (2-2-2) on the season with no wins against top-tiered teams. The Zips are 8-1-5 all-time against Marquette with the lone loss coming in the NCAAT on the road about ten years ago. I don't recall specifics, but I have the perception that we somehow got shafted in that game. If anyone has details, please remind me. Anyhow, I'd love to see another solid team win with Emil getting in on multiple goal contributions and a shutout for our defense. Prediction: another 3-0 domination. Go Zips! Keep it rolling!2 points

Usually we’re tortured until the last second, and lose. It would be great if this was the start of the “win by a little” segment, and the “lose by a little” is over.2 points

Zips beat a 5-2 team. They get some breaks. and you find multiple reasons to complain. Same old tune.2 points

I knew I shouldn't have taken the live-bet Akron victory formation .... EMU on their own 8 ... they have us right where they want us.2 points

Have I just seen the dumbest Zips play of all time? That one dwarfs fielding a punt inside the 5.2 points

They should have moved the game up to noon if they wanted a better attendance but I don’t know how much it would have helped. Today is trick or treat night for Akron and the suburbs which starts around 5. Makes going to the game challenging for most.2 points

Castleberry dropped that punt before the EMU defender ever touched him. Should not have been a penalty on EMU and Castleberry should not be catching punts anymore.2 points

You are absolutely right, and it has affected my desire to watch any NCAA sports right now, except for the Zips. I used to be an NCAA basketball junkie, women and men, and loved a Saturday afternoon big game on TV. Now, if I'm going to watch college kids play a sport and demand 12 million a year for an NIL deal, I'll stick with watching an NFL game with the real professionals. Same goes now for the WNBA and WSL vs. college women's b-ball and soccer.2 points

Freeman made his first basket on a offensive rebound and putback. Had 3 fouls and looked good. Did not take a shot on offense and mainly set screens.2 points

Because the 5-2 team lost that game more than we won it. I simply witnessed the same issues we've seen all season occur yet again today - lack of discipline, blowing leads, muffed punts, chunk plays on defense, etc. - and for the first time the opponent didn't take full advantage of it which led to a Zips win. I'm happy we won, but the W doesn't excuse the negatives that continue to plague this program under JoeMo. This win doesn't give me confidence we've turned the corner as a program. Edit: Here, I'll appease y'all and say something positive. We got the run game going today. As Pat Shurmur would say, "Progress."1 point

I'm thrilled with the win. Others seem to be happiest when the Zips lose.1 point

Imagine the program you supposedly root for having its best win since Bowdens last season and not being happy about it. Couldn’t be me.1 point

We blew an 18 pt lead that was only possible thanks to a very poor kick catch interference call on EMU. Otherwise, EMU likely recovers the fumble and we don't have the possession that leads to a score. EMU missed 2(?) FGs to boot. JoeMo gets very little credit for this, but a win is a win.1 point

Jesus we've already gone over this ad nauseum at this point. Akron Football COSTS the most amount of money, so all of it's revenue offsets its own cost AT BEST. No, Akron Football DOES NOT fund everything else. Student Fees does. You could cut the Football Program tomorrow, lose the money games, and be better off financially. This is just a stone-cold fact.1 point

JoeMo needs to forfeit the remainder of his contract. He is not a winner.1 point

That's an atrocious DPI on Golden-Nelson. Game 2 Guards/Tigers ALDS Home Plate Umpire level bad for officiating.1 point

Think we may have figured our OL out. Getting really nice push on runs and pass blocking well. Of course, also running it a lot more than we did in the beginning of the season.1 point

I’ll take that 1st quarter all day. Let’s put Granger back on punts though.1 point

As we know Bowden got fired last year at ULM. He is currently an assistant coach at Delhi Charter School. ULM this year, however, is 5-1, their only loss is to Texas and have beaten JMU and Troy. Coaches matter.1 point

game was at Marquette - 2013 round of 32 - NCAA tournament game real temp was somewhere in the neighborhood of -5 to -10.... I was at the game.... wind chill was probably closer to -25 to -35 field was almost frozen solid Jake Fenlason was great at stopping shots...but did not have a strong leg against the wind, his goal kicks did not reach midfield Marquette had a 6'8 centerback......they used that guy for long kicks due to the leg of the 6'8 centerback....the ball was mostly played with Akron defending their goal Akron freshman midfielder(sometimes known as VS8) let the ref know all game that Marquette was getting the advantage on calls... game was 0-0 after regulation.... in OT, Reinaldo Brenes was taken down in the box....No PK was called VS8 let the ref know(as the action was continuing) that was BS Marquette won 1-0 on golden goal.... after the game, the rather feisty zip midfielder gave the ref an earful.....with some physical contact. feisty midfielder was rewarded with a multi-game suspension at the beginning of 2014 season and a 2 game suspension from NCAA tourney games in 2014.... and yes, I thought that a PK should have been called when Reinaldo went down in the box did I mention that it was COLD !!!!1 point

We blocked that last second FG attempt in 1987 for a win so I'm sure that figured into it.1 point

Leaving Bronny in his dust! Over/Under on the Enrique/Bronny all time NBA career point differential - 4,000 (in Enrique’s favor). Looking forward to revisiting this post in a decade. 😀1 point

Agree. After I retired I got busy being busy. Lots of volunteering, a side job, grand kids. I'm on the north side of 70. Those who assume that 'getting old' in this day and age is the same as even 40, 50, 60 years ago are the ones who are 'over the hill'. Ageing is what you make of it.1 point

Z.I.P. has a good post .... I certainly did not understand the process of how the Hermann Trophy winner is selected. Emil sadly was not on the pre season watch list https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/2024-mens-hermann-trophy-watch-list-announced/ here is a good article about the selection process Sadly, the Akron soccer SID Sean Palchick did not energize the Akron Fans to nominate Emil. https://www.machermanntrophy.org/selection Timeline Mid-August – Men’s and women’s Preseason Watch list is released (Approximately the top 40 males and top 40 female Division I college soccer players from the previous season) Early October – The “Candidates We Missed” campaign. College SIDs can energize their fans to nominate a player who did not make the Preseason Watch List to make the ballot in November. Mid November – The semifinalists (top 15 men and top 15 women) are announced. The voting of Division I coaches begins. Mid December – Top three women’s finalists announced at NCAA Women’s College Cup; Top three men’s finalists announced at NCAA Men’s College Cup. Early January - The men’s and women’s winners are announced at press conference and honored at MAC Awards Banquet. I sure hope that Sean Palchick is very active in mid November.......in making the various Division 1 coaches aware of why Emil should be the Hermann Trophy winner Near the end of the collegiate regular season, 15 players whom the committee considers the best in Division I soccer are announced as semifinalists for the award. That list is then voted on through an online voting process by men's and women's Division I soccer coaches whose teams are current NSCAA College Services members.1 point
