Joe did what he was told. The customer is always right. During the selection process there were better designs. More clever designs. And Guthrie forced his lame, amateur Graphic Designer effort on us. Beyond that, he fixed a problem that didn’t exist, when he should have been focusing on real problems. Yay…he rearranged the deck chairs on the Titanic. There’s a reason the guy’s gone, and it isn’t because anyone was impressed with his graphic designer capabilities. Hope our next AD isn’t a putz. Based upon history there’s a 75% chance he/she/they will be.9 points

Nothing against you, @clarkwgriswold. It was just a summary of all the statements and no actual reporting4 points

My point wasn't that more injuries occur during OT, but that the NCAA soccer season is so compressed, our team sometimes plays 3 games in the span of a week. That's a lot of wear and tear with little time for recovery which leads to nagging injuries. Some of our players are nursing injuries and playing through them now. OT does not guarantee additional wins.4 points

We always lose measuring stick games like this. It would be awesome to finally break through. My biggest three questions after the Arkansas State game- 1.) Can Isiah Gray play under control in crunch time? His pulse rate ramped up at the end of the game and he made some pressure related mistakes. 2.) Groce voiced displeasure with a player that was dogging it up the court, and out of condition against ASU. Said player didn’t like getting benched for being called out for an unsatisfactory effort. I’ll guess the player was Wilson? How does he respond? 3.) How does Tavari respond to the competition from Young? If Tarvari isn’t making buckets, Young’s gonna get an increasing amount of minutes.4 points

First postseason win since 2018! Great game Zips4 points

I know it's kind of a tired topic with the logo, but this one is indeed my favorite. I also liked the A-roo but it wasn't really instantly recognizable as a kangaroo. Looked a bit too much like a donkey. But the Z is so unique, there are only two colleges in the country that start with a Z and I don't think anybody would confuse us with Zane(sville) community college nor Zaytuna college. There are over 100 institutions of higher learning that begin with A, and more than a dozen Division 1 football teams. For a logo you want something that is instantly identifiable, connected and has some uniqueness to it. I thought the Z was fantastic. I hate the rationale of going back to an A to be more connected with the community. I think that was a load of crap. Long live the Z!3 points

the DePaul coach has wonderful things to say about Emil, Dyson and Malik I give them credit for not parking the bus3 points

The Zips need to clean that up. Playing around with the ball in front of our own goal against a better team could cost the game.3 points

For some history context- if the Zips didn’t have a D1 football program we wouldn’t be in the MAC. And our basketball program wouldn’t be where it is today. With basically a 40% chance of getting in the NCAA tournament every year. If we drop a division we won’t be in the MAC. Unless there’s a new Division for those who can’t, and shouldn’t run with the NIL big dogs. And basketball would suffer. Be competitive in the MAC in football and build from there. It’s the most financially responsible route while staying relevant across the collegiate athletics board.3 points

Don’t hate this but not a big fan of it either. I think a new logo, or any Akron branding, should include a kangaroo. Such a unique mascot with so many branding opportunities to use but the new “A” totally disregarded it.2 points

At the end of the day, I judge Guthrie on where the athletic program is compared to where it was when he came in. I see no progress.2 points

Guaranteed would be difficult to predict, but chances are good with our Zips ranked #29 and the Hoyas #8 in RPI. Have to play well, which I'm confident in our team. Intangibles, such as referee who over or under controls the game, concern me. Playing in Georgetown's backyard is also a concern, but I would suggest our Zips look at 2018 ... MAC Tournament in Morgantown and NCAA Tournament matches at Syracuse, at Wake Forest and at Stanford. Tough places to play, but those Zips were on a roll, not to be denied and got it done.2 points

Every one of our goals tonight were incredible. So much fun to relive them watching the replays. WOW x 3!!!2 points

Couldn't disagree more. At some point we have to accept that our football program is never going to compete at a high level at the D1 level. With NIL creating an even bigger divide tham before, I see most of the MAC moving down to D2 or creating their own subdivision within the next 10 years. We already have a beautiful stadium. We already have fantastic facilities. And it hasn't mattered. What is a new AD going to change or bring in? We need to finally build around our successful programs. There's plenty of blueprints out there to be a basketball-first school and have a successful athletic program. We have the coach, we have the winning tradition, we have competitive NIL in place thanks for the FTR Collective. Build around that instead of continuing to do something that's just never going to happen.2 points

How many here remember when we had our last NCAA tourney run and the U had a couple of nice watch parties at the JAR, with cash bar and all? How nice would it be to do again for semi-final match Thursday night? Great for students, fans, casual fans.1 point

Riq doesn't need any seasoning of how to act like a pro. Most NBA picks are just kids with no idea how to act.1 point

I think Gray will be okay. He didn't turn the ball over a lot at Cornell. I suspect he's just been pressing. I predict he'll be a fan favorite by the end of the year.1 point

Not Big East, but Western Michigan who was the 4 seed lost in the MVC quarterfinals this morning1 point

I had also come up with the motto of the University of Akron Zips - We have everything covered from A to Z. They can have that one. 😊1 point

Yup. It would require anyone who works at Akron to give a damn, and not just see the institution as a resume builder for something else. Unfortunately all the people who gave a damn were cut probably a decade ago when Scarborough was here.1 point
-
I would also hope that best case, a win against Georgetown and a win against Providence may get the Zips a top 16 first round bye. If not, because the seeding outside the top 16 is based on proximity, we could possibly get Dayton, Dusquesne, Western Michigan, Michigan, or IU1 point

May not compete at the highest level .... but ... Zips/MAC can compete against high level teams. And should do it consistently.1 point

I was okay with about every logo for the last 20 years: the kangaroo with Akron Zips across it, the A with the kangaroo head, the Z and the new A. The only one I disliked was the awful script Akron.1 point

Good first half by the zips. Malik was really dangerous. Mailk deserves recognition when the all league teams are announced next Tuesday or Wednesday. Great finish on the first goal by Victor The referee made several poor calls that hurt the zips. The foul call on Malik (when Malik was having his jersey pulled) was horrible and gave DePaul a free kick in a good location. The Akron back 4....has really improved during the season. Ashton and Josh are both very solid. The 2 captains...Beto and Josh...are outstanding.1 point

6'4" senior point guard Augustus Marciulionis leads the Gaels at 18.5 ppg. playing a whopping 38 minutes per game so far. He's also averaging 7.5 apg. He's the son of NBA Hall of Famer and former Golden State Warrior Sarunas Marciulionis. 6'8" sophomore forward Paulius Mauraskas is also averaging 18'5 ppg while leading the team in rebounding at 12.5 rpg.1 point

He and Kaulig need to team up. Kaulig is a former Zips QB that is the founder/CEO of LeafFilter and now Kaulig racing. He is a billionaire and owns part of the Cleveland Guardians. Somehow, we haven't been able to take the right step in football despite his involvement. I want his address book combed thoroughly for connections to who would be the right AD, though. Then Wentz can vet them to make sure they fit the Zips vision.1 point

Baseball coaches aren't going anywhere even with a new AD '24 season wasn't amazing but there are some really good young players that did well this year and the coaches brought in a great transfer/freshman class with the '25 class looking great as well1 point

10-3-4 and close to the top of power ratings nationally in the football we care about in this forum. Charles is not what anyone would call a Great Communicator. He never ingratiated himself to the core Zips fans or alumni, but these are tough times both financially and politically at the university and he got caught up in more than he probably bargained for. I wish Charles all the best in his and his family's future.1 point

We don’t need stability for the sake of stability. Guthrie isn’t gone because he was anything but bad AD. It heartens me that UA recognized the mistake and cut bait.1 point

Given the timing, our athletics budget, the state of our football program, and the size of our university, I'm not sure there will be many candidates with experience vying for the position. And if they are, they'll likely be similar to Guthrie in that they'll be aiming to be somewhere else in a few years. I'd rather go with someone passionate for UA who isn't looking to use us to advance their own career elsewhere, but that's just me.1 point

Disappointing but not surprising. We really laid a number of eggs early in the season. The Ohio State game was an abomination from start to finish which was NO FUN to watch AT ALL. Then tying Cleveland State, losing to IU-Indianapolis, and losing 0-1 to Temple, all at home. Those games were atrocious.1 point

It actually is a UAkron hoodie, but just an awful design that just copies Auburn1 point

So this is the benchmark for a great AD nowadays? I’ll be impressed when he rescinds his Arby’s “A” logo, and puts 20k butts in InfoCision for a game.1 point
