  1. I saw Emoni Bates play, and he HAD to be throwing games. No way an NBA draft pick could perform so horribly.

  3. I am starting to think this is the year… Beat south Alabama 17-1 in conference, gets a 12 seed and take down the 5 seed! the MAC is down but we are confident as confidence can be and that will help us not back down from that 5 seed!

  5. Here's an interesting article about Zay's prior coach from Cornell, who is now trying to turn around William and Mary, one of only 3 schools who have been eligible for every NCAA tournament, but have never qualified. Two things stand out to me. First, Groce is certainly not the only coach who wants to shoot as many 3's as possible while also playing 10. Second, I didn't realize the Ivy League has a rule where players can't play more than 4 years in the league, regardless of circumstances. For that reason, Zay and three of his ex-teammates were forced to transfer to play their final season (I assume they each got an extra covid season). Maybe John and Bud can take advantage of this again in the future?

  6. Sometimes an organization can have people on staff who can get things done if they're just given a chance.

  7. Have to disagree with the notion he has no where to go. Like @MangoZip said, it’s clockwork with the Moorhead OC talk. Although, one of these days it might be reality. Moorhead will be one of the top OC options every cycle. His results as a HC at Akron have almost no correlation to his ability as a play-caller at a higher level program. I’ve said this a number of times - I believe this is his last shot at becoming a P4 HC again. He needs to be successful here to potentially have that opportunity. All that said, I would not be surprised if this coming season is his last at Akron. I hope that’s not the case, but if the administration does not opt into revenue sharing or devise some type of NIL funds for football players, I’m not sure why he would stay. He’s already fighting an uphill battle with resources and the gap will continue to grow without NIL funds. That, coupled with this coming year being the last of HS football for his son, would make sense if he’s tired of banging his head against the wall.

  8. He came here to do a job, and unlike Guthrie he's not running away. There isn't one person on the planet that doesn't see Joe could have had a P5 OC position making 4X what Akron's HC position pays. Yet he came "home" anyhow. I can see where people take the negative narrative...it's unfathomable in this day and age to see a guy sticking to his word despite facing some incredible unexpected adversity. Winning at Infocision is a monumental task that only got worse with the advent of paid players. I'm rooting for Joe to continue the small, positive steps he's made in making the Zips a respectable program. If anyone thinks Joe is struggling to turn the Zips around, wait to you see the next budget-friendly coach UA tries to hire on the cheap once he ultimately departs. If Infocision was Dairy Queen, I predict our next cheap AD gives us an Ianello-Arth-Faust Sundae with sprinkles.

  9. Kent has 7 seniors and returned the large majority of their team that was a few plays away from a MAC Championship last season. Sendy blaming NIL for this is WEAK.

  12. Sometimes, if your boss is busy promoting himself, he doesn't have time to pay attention to the "little things" immediately at-hand...like promoting the Zips.

  13. Spot on, and people are assuming Ryan Day would consider Joe Moorhead pick of the litter professionally and personally. I’m not sure that’s the case, that there is a strong relationship (or any relationship) there that translates into Day even reaching out or vice versa. Moorhead is respected - absolutely not questioning that - but that doesn’t automatically translate into winning - and let’s be clear l, he would have to compete with and win a job many others are also interested in - a heavily coveted OC position in the P4, this goes for any top P4 job, not only OSU. I’m not being negative here about Moorhead, he was a huge get for UA and the longer he stays likely the better it is for the rebuild of all rebuilds. I just believe whether he chooses to be here or doesn’t have any place more appealing than his current HC job to go to - he is here for at least one more season. I believe it is a combination of both, as many times these things are.

  14. Moorhead is obviously a respected coordinator. The thing about OSU is they pretty much have their pick of the litter. Kelly left being a head coach at a P5 program to become their play caller. He's now going to be the top paid OC in the NFL. Their defensive coordinator just got hired away to become the highest paid coordinator in CFB. Whether you're wanting a 2nd chance to revive your career or you're just wanting a brinks trunk of money, getting an OSU coordinator position seems like an easy path to the top.

  15. Yeah, Sparks is solid and Pearson is a nice piece as well. I honestly can't figure out why they're not better than they are. We need to be careful with this one. Ball State has a legit inside presence that other MAC teams lack. It's a natural letdown spot as well after playing so well at Kent. I'll take the 14' points here but won't be sad if we drill them a new one.

  16. The conversation would need to start yesterday. "Joe...we want to keep you at Akron. You know our situation...our pockets aren't deep. We understand NIL and the portal are paradigm shifts in the college football landscape that weren't factors when you accepted this job. While the wins aren't there yet, we're happy with your progress and want it to continue. We've invested a lot in facilities and feel we should be competitive in the MAC, and in G5 overall. Tell us your 4-year plan to make the Zips competitive, and what would make you feel good about signing a 4 year contract extension to enact it?"

  17. What could keep him is Akron and the MAC in general introducing some sanity into scheduling. Looks like we are headed that way. In addition, if every other MAC school struggles with nil revenue streams, everything equals out.

  19. As much as we'd all like to contribute to the GoFundme for PCCC's basketball funeral, they'll make it to Cleveland. They have better than average MAC talent. Pinky just hasn't figured out yet how to get them to play together. Even if he doesn't, there are so many really bad MAC teams that they'll end up in the mix as a .500 team.
