  1. CLT is warm and sunny all year. NEO is cold and gloomy from December to mid March. That is a big reason why people are flocking there and to other southern cities.
  2. It's a commitment to donate $20,000.
  3. The reason we play the money games is to make up for the lack of ticket sales revenue from our most expensive sport. Football! Imagine if we could average 20k attendance for 6 games. If we just grossed $15 per fan, that would be $1.8 million in revenue. Then would could get by with a more manageable OOC schedule.
  4. I know this seems crazy, but the athletic department has no say in how the team shop and bookstore operate or what items they sell. One of the many frustrating aspects of the administration at UA. Hopefully RJ can change this.
  5. An outside party has to setup any NIL program. Nobody was willing to do that. It wasn't for a lack of trying. We are not the only MAC program with no football NIL. Donors typically don't fund general operations. They fund projects like a basketball practice facility or upgrades to a baseball field. You know that.
  6. Unless we ditch football completely, I don't envision any further cuts in that program. More likely elimination of a few other programs. I'd name them but I'm not interested in getting pelted with tomatoes from the fans of those teams on this forum.
  7. Unless JoMo resigns or the new AD comes with a couple of $million in his back pocket there won't be any change. More likely is the new AD will be wielding a hatchet, prepared to slash the budget.
  8. Riq doesn't need any seasoning of how to act like a pro. Most NBA picks are just kids with no idea how to act.
  9. They hired the same guys who gave us the Z logo. Those guys were insistent on the A logo. No amount of input from fans, former athletes or donors was changing their minds. I was part of the process.
  10. Not happening.
  11. TSA at the gate was not Guthries idea.
  12. The HC has total control over his programs' budget. Sometimes there are tough decisions that are made that impact what money is spent on what items. He made his choices.
  13. I witnessed all those teams you are speaking of. The game has changed at a remarkable pace. All the way from youth football to the pros. UA should have never entered the arms race of major college football. We were never going to be able to compete, nor did we have the willpower. Even in those bygone eras we were always a basketball school. If you want to place blame, put it on Bill Muse. That started this pipedream.
  14. I think this is the mindset of the current BOT and trustees. Concentrate on a few majors and cut out the ones where we will never be able to attract enough students to justify their existence.
  15. It's a business, not a charity. There are departments that have very few students and cost millions to operate. And don't try to equate athletics to this. By virtue of accounting methods, athletics is in a different place. They get charged full rate for every scholarship but get zero credit back for every athlete paying their own way.
  16. I'll be back in town for that one!
  17. Looks like I'm not making it to this one. 4 club seats to whoever wants them. Send me a PM.
  18. Groce did a good job explaining that our OOC schedule this season features some of the best mid-major programs this season. Ark St, St Mary's, N Kentucky and Milwaukee are all predicted to be March madness contenders. Sit back and enjoy the ride. By March we will be there too.
  19. Hope you didn't follow your own advice.
  20. Akron Children’s Hospital, University of Akron to offer free associate degree in nursing https://www.cleveland.com/akron/2024/10/akron-childrens-hospital-university-of-akron-to-offer-free-associate-degree-in-nursing.html
  21. So far, the only MAC football team with NIL is BG. Someone from outside the university would have to get one started for the Zips.
  22. Since the advent of NIL and the portal, the inmates now run the asylum. Especially at the lower rung programs.
  23. Bates just had knee surgery. It looks like he might be out for a while.
  24. One thing you can always count on from the members of sports message boards is Monday morning quarterbacking. I think on the subject of the relationship between the athletic department and Joe Moorhead we lead the league.
  25. I think Finley thought Newel was going to stop and turn on that route.
