  1. They had a short scrimmage. Harris looked great. Young will give Tavari a good push for the point guard spot. Gray is a bull of a basketball player.
  2. Today's ribbon cutting ceremony is open to anyone who wants to attend. Please park in lots 8, 9 or 10. There will be a practice session starting at 3:30 and the ribbon will be cut at 4:30. I would imagine some of the former players will be in attendance.
  3. The dinner tomorrow night will feature many former players and coaches. Bob Huggins, Jim Tressel and Enrique Freeman just to name a few. Several players are flying in from overseas to attend. Keith Dambrot will hopefully be there if he can clear a few items off his schedule. This event is being run by alumni, not the athletic department. Guthrie agreed to help the organizers with some marketing and to secure the venue. The only official athletic department event is today's ribbon cutting ceremony for the new practice facility that starts at 3:30 pm. There are currently 220 people registered for tomorrow night's dinner. There is also a reception being held tonight at Prime Vine Winery. Please RSVP before arriving. Again, other than the ribbon cutting, all events are being run by alumni, not athletics.
  4. There is a big Basketball reunion dinner on Saturday night at the student center.

  6. Murphy was clipped on his heel from behind and never recovered.
  7. He had a shoulder injury about mid-season and refused to do the rehab required to get back on the court. Some family members convinced him that he might re-injure it and hurt his chances of playing in the NBA. They were convinced the coaching staff wasn't using him properly and he deserved to be the starting center, not Big Dog. He was a very soft player and by the end of the season the staff was done with his antics. He wasn't included on the post season roster.
  8. Charlotte has one of the worst highway systems of any major city. Note to Ohioans, it is worth the cost of the tolls to use the express lanes when traveling through on your way north or south.
  9. Every single public university with the exception of OSU and Cincinnati are in the same financial trouble.
  10. There is a new high definition ribbon board being installed at the base of the upperdeck on the east grandstand in addition to the new main board. This and the size of the main board will open up much more in the way of local sponsorship/advertising. BTW, all of this was paid for by Learfield. Around $1 million.
  11. He decided it was time to retire and spend time with his family in Texas. Not everything has to be some kind of conspiracy theory.
  12. UTEP could possibly pull that off!
  13. All you have to do to fulfill your dream is to attend one of the Tuesday night games in late November.
  14. Your lack of historical knowledge of Zips basketball renders these polls as worthless.
  15. Various Frisbee catching dogs, Bud Light Daredevils. https://youtu.be/iccs2R4r1FY?si=up3OSvYHpXj6uzU6
  16. The country went through a period of thought that everyone would need some level of higher education to succeed. After the recession of 2008 and the resulting high unempyment rates, Obama really ran with this idea and expanded federal funding for loans and grants. Colleges like Akron saw big increases in enrollment and responded. Eventually the government funding dried up and the bubble burst.
  17. Bill and Mary Skeeles have made another generous donation to Zips Baseball. $1.3 million will fully fund scholarships to the max level allowed. https://gozips.com/news/2024/6/4/william-and-mary-skeeles-fund-university-of-akron-baseball-scholarships-with-1-3-million-gift
  18. The NBA is mostly position less today.
  19. Guthrie just signed a contract extension that keeps him here until 2028. He has a great working relationship with the BoT. Nemer is also a sports guy with a good understanding of what athletics adds to the university. Btw, John Groce and Jared Embick also got extentions. None of our key guys are entering the transfer portal!😉
  20. She sucks so bad that she was selected as the top coach. If a couple of the girls who transferred out had given her a chance, we would have won the womens title too. You should be more worried about her getting hired away from the Zips.
  21. Don't look now, but it appears we will win the Men's Championship.
  22. The seats that were behind the baskets have been cannibalize for parts to replace/repair other seats. There are no replacements manufactured any longer.
