  1. Anyone have a gamecast link? Please post.
  2. From gozips.com...Further distancing itself from its “mid-major” label, Akron has more than held its own against schools from the larger conferences. In fact, UA is 34-14-6 (.685) all-time versus schools from the Big East Conference and 60-32-7 (.641) versus schools from the Big Ten.Very impressive!
  3. http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page424.htmI think we'll finish much higher. Go Zips!
  4. Seriously? This is a weak move by the athletic department, or the MAC office, whoever is in charge of the schedule here.It just tells people that we're second-rate. Why the hell should we base our schedule around another, unrelated school's game time? I don't care who you root for, this is weak.I personally Like the shift to a 1:00 PM start, however to say that it is so "football fans in northeast Ohio, who can now watch two great football games in their entireties" is not "weak" it is just plain stupid. If I was in charge of the Athletic Department whoever wrote that would be very lucky to have a job the next day. :mad_flame: I agree that the change is definitely for the better. However, to publicly acknowledge OSWho's game as having an impact on the decision making is very poor. It highlights we are a second rate program. Even though it's true, our own Athletic Department shouldn't be publicizing such a stigma. The challenges are great enough without handicapping ourselves.
  5. I can match their yellow spot on.So can I.
  6. The list of schools that offered him is very impressive. I wonder how he's ended up with us? Seems like we have the same log jam that UL does at RB. It just figures that's his position though. Why don't we ever seem to get transfers or new talent where there are big holes (i.e. QB and DB)? With a stud QB, this team could go from being average/below-average to top of the MAC.
  7. Out of curiosity, I checked one of the gopher sites & found this thread:"The official "Where the **** is Vince Hill?" Thread" I wonder if maybe Da'Von Moore might be able to put a big hit on this kid this season. Is he still around?Da' Von Moore still around. He hurt himself in the first practice he took place in during last season. Either tore his ACL or something with his ankle. Needless to say it wasnt very good. He will be at camp once it opens this week. Also coming to camp a BIG NAME running back! Could be the the best recruit in the MAC by far next to Deryn Bowser.Unless you're going to name names and give some details, please don't bother even mentioning stuff like this. It's beyond frustrating for those of us not "in the know". As for concerns about starting a rumor as a result, simply qualify your statements as heresay.
  8. The only Big 11 team to make the list is # 25 Northwestern. OSWho?
  9. Good idea. I've been saying for a couple of years now that we should intentionally try to stoke up a rivalry w/ Toledo. It's a natural rivalry-in-the-making. And, aside from the last 2 years, they have had an outstanding FB program.Toledo has made it clear that they want to leave the MAC at the first good opportunity. If we can build a good rivalry with them, they might take us with them. As of right now, though, their only real rival is BGSU, and that's the way they like it.How and when did UT make it clear they want to leave the MAC?
  10. Checkout the new UA HomePage at www.uakron.edu!I'm impressed.
  11. The only I-AA school I would even consider wanting us to schedule is YSU because of the rivalry and potential for a large crowd. Otherwise, it's not worthwhile and would contribute to the stigma that we have a second class program.
  12. Dear GoZips,That makes the Akron coaches more conscientious than some other college coaches I know of. I've been to universities in the off-season, and seen things like this: Coaches playing together with their own players in 'open gym' situations; Coaches sitting in the stands at open gym sessions, yelling out instructions to players -- even calling out plays to them. Of course it's easy for one school to get away with it, because there is no other D-1 school within 2000+ miles to turn them in. I wonder if said school used to be called the Rainbows?
  13. Considering YSU and Ashland aren't D-IA (or whatever the heck it is called now), I would hope the offense looked good! Had this been against a few MAC or BCS level opponents, I'd be impressed.Nice to see the team has enough leadership to put something like this together without coach involvement though. When talent differences are marginal (as in the MAC), things like hustle, team spirit, and leadership can make the difference between winning and losing on a weekly basis.GO ZIPS!
  14. This is huge! Lebron essentially states that he is endorsing UA as his personal program of choice....I really hope to see a Nike Arena with King James Court sometime in the next five years!
  15. As members of the Nation then, it's our job to teach them and spread our UA Zips culture.
  16. IMO for this to happen and be worthwhile, the Info would need to be sold out for every home game. Why give people another excuse to stay home on a cold, dreary night at the end of November?I can also see another scenario like last year where the end of the UA-Can't game was cut short in the closing minutes when the game was yet to be decided to make way for OSU pregame. Just imagine an overtime conference game or a close out-of-conference game against a big opponent being cut off to make way for Archie Bunker on All in the Family. ...you want to talk about DECREASING legitimacy to a program that did and would do it, respectively.
  17. According to the FIFA Laws of the Game, page 7 (for a PDF copy, http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/lawsofthegame.html), a soccer field may be (100,130)L X (50,100)W [min, max] where units are in yards. For international matches, the field must be (110,120)L X (70,80)W.I would assume the NCAA implements similar requirements.
  18. Z.I.P., always a good read and yet another great post. I wish there were more die hard UA (or just general) futbol fans on this board. We'll have to meet up and sit in the stands together when UA is playing for the National Championship. Until then,
  19. Then I would seriously question the credibility of this publication.
  20. I beg to differ. Navy is still very good (they'd kill any MAC school) and Air Force has been respectable of late.
  21. UA will be playing in the UNM Tournament Sept 12-14 in Albuquerque.Interesting information about UCLA.
  22. Timmy, I agree the Zips have a great future as Z.I.P. has pointed out. UConn and South Fla are worthy rivals, altho' we should have kicked S.F.'s ass. We were the better team. When we last played UConn they were slightly ahead of us. Those fortunes have changed. All they have is a better facility and conference now. We are better. Our new facility has had architectural review and has been signed off on by the board of trustees and facilities management. It is a beautiful facility with 3,500 seats on the side our bleachers are on now, locker rooms, refs rooms, press box, an entertainment suit and birm seating behind the east goals and along the side opposite the main stands where the teams now have their benches. There is only one teeny little problem ...there is no money to build it now or in the next three years. Caleb has been told he has to do his own fund raising if he wants it built. Cost is $12 million. Caleb is trying to get it built in phases while also trying to find a major donor. First phase is to move the field to the new seting to allow for a big grandstand and lay down water, sewer, electrical and drainage under new turf. The next phase is lights and a few misc. things. The last stage is the main grandstand. This will be hard. Don't believe for a minute that the school has to build a new facility if Caleb wins big next year.Akron's debt is at a manageable, yet all time high level right now. The borad of trustees will not go in deeper to build a low revenue generating facility until after the football stadium is shown to be a success. Read that to mean 5 years. That's why we need someone with deep pockets to jump start the whole initiative. The truth of the matter is that our conference and our facility are the two greatest, and only sigificant, limiting factors to the growth of the soccer program. I hope Caleb does not get frustrated. I believe he will not. His contract extension shows he wants to build here and he has a very good relationship with Mac Rhoades. Caleb speaks highly of him often. Caleb is a big picture guy who sees where we can go. Kinda like KD, but in a sport that is higher in national prominence. He's what we need. Let's give him the people in the stands he needs this season. See you there and then afterwards for a cold one. Deal? Deal. I look forward to it. Thanks for all the information.
  23. Beautiful. Great post! I'm really excited to see where this program goes in the next five years. I think at some point, UA will be playing for a National Championship. I just hope the community and fan support grow with the success of the program. In the overall analysis of power programs, I'd also like to mention UConn and South Florida. They are both programs UA has met in the NCAA Tournament with limited success and that have the facilities and tradition to rival UA's.I can't wait to see more detailed renderings of the new on-campus soccer complex. Any idea when that project will kick off?
  24. He has shown signs of being a great punter. Do you remember how he put on an All-American type performance against OSU? He has the talent. The coaches are the ones making him do the stupid rugby punt thing. If our punt-coverage has improved, Stec will be allowed to make more of the regular punts that he is capable of.And that "stupid rugby punt thing" worked fabulous a few times when it was used as a fake on 4th down, not that I'm advocating that they should do that all the time.I agree. Do it intermittently for the sake of maintaining the fake element, but not all the time. It's not necessary to do it at the start of an away game on 4th and 26 from inside our own 20. That's not fooling anyone. Make the big punt and play the field position game. But, I guess this gets back to the issue of a lack of creative play calling. Why do I feel like the conversations on this board go in one big vicious circle?
