Indiana - Huge Road game on September 9
Z.I.P. replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
There's A LOT of nonsense (non-truths) in this history (link at bottom) of the Akron-IU rivalry. The one point I believe is correct is that Akron owns the advantage in the last ten meetings. I well remember the game at Lee Jackson in 1980. It was played on a Sunday -- not Saturday as this says. The Browns (aka that season as the Kardiak Kids) played I think the Steelers and Pittsburgh's PK was Matt Bahr (he joined the Browns the following season) who played soccer against Akron earlier, and along with his fellow NFL placekicker brother Chris was the son of another hated opposing coach, the legendary Walter Bahr (pronounced VAL- tehr- Bar) who coached his sons in soccer at Penn State . My memory is that Don Cockroft kicking the winning FG at the end was the highlight of either game -- and that "Uncle" Georgie Nanchoff was more interested in the Browns game on my transistor radio than the Hoosiers win (3-1 I think) on our field. 🤣 This was the Indiana team on which Yeagley subbed his entire field squad of ten players at the same time. I don't know today, but at the time that seemed incredibly arrogant of Yeags. Jerry at that time was the biggest referee baiter ever. It was amazing he never received even a yellow card! I believe our 2022 Zips can maintain that past ten-year advantage, and anything less than a draw will be terribly disappointing. fknbuflobo bring back a W from Armstrong! https://iuhoosiers.com/sports/msoc/opponent-history/akron/153 -
Michigan State - Labor Day at home

Looking at that picture I couldn't help but remember watching this televised MLS game and thinking "what an absolutely awful tackle by Mullan." I had no idea just how awful the consequences would be for our friend Stevie Z. https://www.sounderatheart.com/2011/4/22/2128329/colorado-rapids-vs-seattle-sounders-steve-zakuanis-horrific-injury -
Did anyone notice what I noticed? There's no signature attached to this apology. No one wants to accept responsibility! SO Akron!

I thought at the end Jared moved Niko up to the left side forward spot. Or did it just seem like that since he was always forward on attacks? -

Discussion: "Malik Henry, best Akron wing back since DeAndre Yedlin." I have seen no live games, only film, but he appears to have similar speed to overlap offensively and possesses an excellent target pass. I notice he lines up in an attacking position on free-kicks in the final third. Does he have unlocked scoring potential? -

Haven't watched, but I'm guessing that old Akron chemistry is back. And hopefully the student crowd/AKRowdies are at least partly responsible. -

Basketball practice facility (and more) coming
Z.I.P. replied to jupitertoo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Slightly off-subject, but since the pic is of the VB team. Doesn't the program have a Teraflex surface floor for games and practices? These are the small things that could help propel a program upward. I remember when my nephew's wife, who was a JC All-America was considering Akron in part because of facilities and equipment. All the top NCAA vb programs use Teraflex. Protects against both acute and chronic injuries and allows players to play more aggressively. MAC teams -- some of them, hopefully use the surface. I'm sure Ball State men's program has it. -

So who IS going to be our goalkeeper this season? 🤔
-
Major correction. We have our PG. She was Bulls' starter last season. Appears to be her third transfer, as she spent a year at Troy and one at a JC. Must have two remaining. Still a good addition to the backcourt. https://ubbulls.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/dominique--camp/5905

Decommitted from Buffalo following Felicia's move to Cuse. Commits to coach Jackson & @ZipsWBB.

I noticed that Aodhan's dad Brian Quinn has been head coach at the U of San Diego since 2018. Interesting possible scheduling matchup.

Sorry if I'm Debbie Downer, but this is another 2 or 3 year interim hire. Not sure what the WSoc salary is, but it's clear to me that outstanding candidates would not be interested in this job! Why not?
