  1. Sounds like the team is in pretty good shape. We only need about 9 new guys and we can make room for most of them by getting rid of some tight ends and wide receivers. Look out MACC, here we come.
  2. Keep an eye open for #73, Nnamdi Onyemelukwe, a R-So. DL who's weighing in at a measly 375 pounds. Could be the heaviest guy the Zips play against this season.
  3. Speaking of the MVC, I've always thought renewing the rivalry with Evansville would be a good idea. I noticed that if you make the time frame short enough, we lead the series with them 1-0. Unfortunately, that does not include our 0-4 record against them during our pre D1 time. Record looks pretty good if we only look at one day
  4. No. 2 is fantastic, but I think I see a bit of an eastern bias in his guys list.
  5. AHA, that must be it. Thanks. I vaguely remember starting a survey; don't recall finishing it. Everything on the email looked legit, I was afraid to click on the link they provided fearing that some really bad virus might be lurking.
  6. Anyone know why tickets@uakron.edu sent me two emails (one time stamped 11:36 and the second 11:37) confirming my ticket purchase (which I didn't make) for the St Francis game?
  7. And you think Whigam was bad, according to this link our other Penn State transfer wasn't even on their roster at the time he entered the portal! Must be nice to throw your deserters under the bus
  8. The following link indicates Penn State doesn't think they lost much with the Whigan transfer. Didn't play much and when he did it was mostly on special teams Although can you really trust someone who ends this article with the following two sentences "Whigan will have three seasons of eligibility remaining with the Zips. He will have just the one final season of eligibility with Akron."
  9. Completely agree on second and third. However, read the captions on the first. They made me LOL. I couldn't figure out whether the Zips play in the MAC, the Matt, or the Max.
  10. Fixed it for you. saw on Twitter there's a "clear plastic tote" rule. not sure how we can bring a blanket or rain gear. Also, they will need to install metal detectors if the goal is to prevent metallic weapons from coming in to stadium.
  11. I really don't see the need for any games to be played. Just have ALL teams perform football moves in front of a panel of judges and have the judges award points on a 1 to ten point scale (similar to spring board diving or gymnastics). The team with the most points is awarded the national championship. However I highly recommend dropping the high and low scores in coming up with total points because the Russian judges are notorious for biased scoring.
  12. So, from this and your previous posts on this topic, I take it that you are undecided about expanding the college football playoffs.
  13. If the types of plays Irons and Undercuffer would run are obvious to you, they are probably just as obvious to our opponents. Maybe we should play Jankowski and Jennings to introduce some uncertainty into our offensive strategy.
  14. 5 of the 9 players he listed were on the Zips roster last year.
  15. Akron isn’t the only MAC school to load up on transfers. The BGSU roster shows 9 transfers from P5 schools, several from other D1 schools, and numerous others. Boston College 2 Kansas Minn. Rutgers Syracuse Wake Forest Washington West Virginia Cincy 2 Memphis others: a baker's dozen And the Buffalo roster shows 10 transfers from P5 schools, several more from other D1 schools, and a lot from other schools and JCs. Arizona Boston College Florida Minnesota Nebraska NC State Notre Dame Rutgers 2 Vanderbilt Cincy Connecticut Louisville Others: a boatload If you want to read about the player with, IMO, thee most interesting background of any D! football player check out Damian Jackson on the Buffalo roster. https://ubbulls.com/sports/football/roster/damian-jackson/6452
  16. Bump: for some entertaining pre-hire discussion of JoMo as the Zips new head coach.
  17. If we are to believe Rivals (and I'm not saying I do), if the young man was unable to handle the academic rigor at Memphis (a pillar of higher education), this is not a good indicator he would enjoy academic success at Akron.
  18. Here's hoping the information you stumbled upon is actually misinformation. I can't even find a football roster for IWCC.
  19. Love the big Z at the top of the scoreboard.
  20. I'm going to need to see the math on travel costs only doubling. Are you asserting, for example, flying the baseball and softball teams to away conference games in the AAC would only cost twice what it costs to bus them to away conference games in the MAC? I'm not sure you can prove that.
  21. And Charles Guthrie was blessed to be hired by a pro sports president. Not sure we can say that about his predecessors.
  22. The ZipsNation authorities were initially thinking about a 6 game suspension, but they were swayed by my argument that the Zips football staff was securing too many 2023 commitments for an old guy to process. That's why they came up with the slightly less punitive double-secret probation. As you point out the NFL does have the right to appeal the sanction, but I don't anticipate that they will.
  23. AHA, I have already negotiated my punishment with the ZipsNation authorities and will not appeal their decision to place me on double-secret probation.
  24. Both these posts are in reference to the same kid. What happened during the minutes that separated these two posts?
