IMO, there was only inarguably, one. I am not clairvoyant enough to know who the most talented teams are in the month of July. With a healthy Woodson and Ball, the Zips will be in the mix. Akron will win or lose the MAC in the month of November, and that is a long way off. Enjoy the weather. ?

The Pitt offense ran the ball effectively (340 yds), controlled the clock (36 to 24 minutes), had great red zone success, and made less mistakes. Good offensive plan in any game, right? I don't think the Zips can be as successful on offense as Pitt (400+ & 6 TDs), so I would hope they play better defense. I don't see the Zips winning in a high scoring shootout like that game, but I have been wrong before. The Pitt/Penn game this year is 3:30 before the Zips play Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 6:30 on 9/9, so that could be entertaining tailgate watching. PSU defense will be wore down from chasing around Ball and Company the week before, so Pitt should be able to run the ball again. ?

The National Football League champions, prior to the merger between the National Football League (NFL) and American Football League (AFL) in 1970, were determined by two different systems. The National Football League was established on September 17, 1920, as the American Professional Football Association (APFA). The APFA changed its name in 1922 to the National Football League, which it has retained ever since.[1] From 1921 to 1931, the APFA/NFL determined its champion by overall win–loss record, with no playoff games;[2] ties were not counted in the winning percentage total.[3] The APFA did not keep records of the 1920 season; they declared the Akron Pros, who finished the season with an 8–0–3 (8 wins, 0 losses, 3 ties) record, as the league's first champions, by a vote of the owners.

Hustlebelt's James Snyder writes "I am basing this on Warren Ball. The guy is a beast. A big reason why Akron wasn’t very good last year was because they couldn’t run the football" More running this year? Should be fun to follow. 1586 rushing yards last year, 3063 passing yards.

Thanks for the info. Keep in mind, TW is recovering from labrum surgery, rehabbing "like a maniac" is not typically a recommended recovery for a shoulder. If anybody has ever gone through therapy for a shoulder issue, you can understand. He just started throwing a football last month. We should have a better update in a few weeks.

Consider the source. When you go back and do what you suggest, you will find it's a very very small amount of ZN, if any. Additionally, I don't read anyone predicting double doubles.

I thought the Rose Bowl was the most entertaining bowl game that I watched last year. Most of the time I watched the game, I kept thinking, "I hope the Zips can limit PSU's possessions, because they have some serious talent on the offensive side of the ball at the skill positions" How can this possibly be at Linebacker U? I'm sure you are correct though. I listened to the Pitt PSU game before the Zips played the Badgers. Jack Ham (color commentator that knows a thing or two about the position) was extremely critical of the linebackers in this game. I can still remember him saying repeatedly "you just can't take that kind of angle on a run play and expect to get good results" Pitt racked up 341 rushing yards on 56 attempts in beating PSU. Seems like a good formula.
