  1. No-one has made any score predictions yet? I'll start it off: The Zips, sporting their chrome-gold helmets with the black Z (IMO if it was about branding, they should have had these for the Penn St game...), surprise everyone and come back from the blow-out last weekend with a competitive game against the Pittsburgh Panthers. Pohl throws a handful of touchtowns to silence the critics on ZN, Chisholm/Hundley and Co move the ball well enough to keep the Zips in the game. And the most surprising feat of the day is that the Zips pull off the win. Akron 27 Pittsburgh 24
  2. I'd say we do have a deep threat in LT Smith. They utilized that deep threat capability numerous times last year, twice against Michigan. I think the word is out on this though, because I've seen LT Smith run a couple of post routes and was heavily covered. Pohl tried to squeeze it to him on one of those. The running game is killing that, we've become on-dimentional.
  3. Even bringing up Woodson > Pohl is asinine to me. It draws parallels to Hoyer and Manziel on the Browns. Hoyer is playing well. Hoyer is playing very well, far better than anyone's expectations, yet there is a small contingent of people who are saying "Hoyer isn't the long term...we should work Manziel into the rotation so he's read to go." I disagree with this mentality. Let the starter start. Unless he utterly implodes by in the middle of the season, or gets hurt. He won the starting position for a reason. If the starting QB doesn't live up to the expectations that you have of them, make a competition in the off season. Pohl went threw a great deal of struggle later in the season (as did the entire offense last year) and we began winning games. Everyone needs to calm down on the QB situation. I will agree that Hirschman looked better than Pohl in limited time last year, but Hirschman had to go get himself hurt celebrating...while Pohl went and won us 5 games.
  4. Theres a difference. And don't forget I'm a tortured Zips/Browns/Indians/Cavs fan. Negative is all I know!
  5. I don't agree with the point "the trend" in the first place. I don't care if teams are passing more than they are running as a definition of a "passing league". I only care if it's because they are winning more or not. I agree with you Dr Z, I was only curious what the numbers were. Every time anyone on ESPN, or whatever NFL analysis game says that the "NFL is a passing league" I don't agree with them. But this shouldn't be surprising, ESPN is filled with a lot of good looking monkeys in suits.
  6. On the hot seat? Yes. 0-2-1 is a terrible start. Four wins are great, but that only guarantees we're not going to lose 15 games.
  7. In which of those situations did the team win more games? The 300 yard passer games or the 100 yard rusher games? That's an important detail. So what if you ran for 100 yards if you ended up losing the game. So what if you threw for 300 yards and lost the game.
  8. We'll be beating other teams because we have better players than they do. Seriously, Marshall had a crop of good athletes and we had a lot of injuries at leader positions. This is nothing to freak out about. The majority of the MAC is as good as Marshall.
  9. Let's not talk about that here. For goodness sake! Leave this thread to the gloriousness that is beating State Ohio University.
  10. Alright folks, don't fall asleep now. Zippy's still 3-1 and we're narrowly losing to That dumb SEC team that our basketball team lost to TWICE last year! Exact our revenge, and beat them now!
  11. Beating State Ohio University never gets old. Way to go Zips!
  12. Completely agree Zen. This is why critical thinking skills are so important.
  13. I would too. But if 1-more week off means he'll be ready to go for MAC play, than I guess I'm okay with it. I want March back for MAC play, even if it's after EMU and Miami. Keep him out as long as he needs. Because we need him.
  14. Thanks for the positive words. I've been saying it for awhile now: But Akron's coaching staff is one of the best we could have ever imagined having here. No need to push the panic button...this team will end up 7-5. I'll stand by my prediction because I was one of very few who said we'd go 5-7 last season.
  15. First soccer stream I will watch this year! Go Zips!!
  16. Leadership is key to that. And I think a lot of our leaders were neutralized by injuries. I will say; I predict a bounce back this week, and an unexpectedly close game.
  17. It seems that I finally agree with you on something Zip_ME87 I think it was either GP1, DIG or Keener who convinced me of this (sorry I can't remember out of the three of you who it was) but they said that "enjoy the good times while we have them...we have a beautiful stadium that we get almost uninterruppted use of during game days...can't beat it." something along those lines. I watch sports to be entertained, and to support my team. My team has sucked so bad for so long that 2013 season was a lot of fun, with a grand finally win against Toledo. THAT was a fun game. We may not be BIG time, but we when we do win, I have a good time. So that's all that matters right? Go Zips!
  18. The infamous building process.
  19. Definitely a depth issue. I would have agreed with you, but then I learned we were missing our RB1 and RB2, and best LB and a good OL, and a WR. The Running game has been awful this year, but we were more 1-dimentional than I can remember under Bowden. Missing the Hundley-Chisholm combo was devastating, and I thought our defense was lost and confused without it's general Justin March. I expect a better performance against Pitt.
  20. More like I don't have time to respond to a novel written about "facts" that don't really support what you claim they do/don't have time to respond to nonsense about "World Championships".
  21. This thread has gone from hyperbolic to ridiculous to just plain hyperbolic-hyperbolic-absurdity.
  22. I agree with this. For now as fans I think we need to focus on being there to support the team through the hardships. This team still has a 7-5 season in it.
