skip-zip
As fans, I think some of us will get a little excited about the "Z" for awhile, because it's something new. But, those of you who are trying to come to grips with the idea of the school's identifying symbol being the Initial of their Nickname are correct. Even though it may be unique, I think you see the challenge when you imagine even the most prominent athletic programs suddenly trying to identify with non-committed fans with a Letter representation that won't instantly associate itself with the school. I can certainly see a lot of "What school is a Z" coming out of this. It's a challenge, at the very least...but more likely, it's a very long learning curve.People are not disassociated with Akron Athletics because they don't like the "A Roo" logo. And a change to a different ID is not going to solve that problem either.
Blue & Gold
I love the Z. I never really liked the A-Roo logo much.
Dr Z
The court looks awesome.... the "Z" is dumb though.A friend of mine asked why there is an "N" on the middle of our new court?..."Will they add the AKRO in front of it?" he asked.
GJGood
In this day and age, I'm just glad the Zips didn't do anything ridiculous. You see crazy colored floors like black and purple, weird blue and red turf, courts that look like a beach, courts with gigantic logos, skylines, etc. They all look awful. Teams go to such great lengths to stand out it gets embarrassing. I wouldn't mind blue painted keys or baselines, but it seems they are keeping it simple. I agree with this. I am glad that they didn't do anything ridiculous or obnoxious but I still would like to see color in the lanes and the official school colors being represented a little more. Maybe either blue or gold in the lanes and the other color behind the baskets. still simple and clean but also representative of the school. I have to admit I do like the Roo at either end of the court though.
Dave in Green
A friend of mine asked why there is an "N" on the middle of our new court?..."Will they add the AKRO in front of it?" he asked. i know a lot of people who don't know UA athletic teams are known as the Zips. They'd probably also be confused by that odd-looking animal head.

I like the "fear the roo" kangaroo on the new floor. I'm always a fan of tone on tone design because it's subtle and "clean."
K92
Why did they choose to use this roo for the floor? Most merchandise uses this roo:Better question: Why are there 2 designs?

Dave in Green
From Dr. Scarborough's presentation yesterday, Z is forever:I don’t know if the University will change its name in the future. I do know that each time the University has changed its name, it had a good reason to do so, and the University subsequently grew in stature and strength. The one thing that will never change is that we will always be Zips Nation, and the Zips Nation does not fear change. It embraces it to become better—to become great.
K92
I didn't even notice it at first. That's what I call the beady eyed roo. For some reason it always reminded me of the beady eyed Eddie.
clarkwgriswold
OK, we have a great looking floor. How about we reconfigure the seating so that you can see the full floor from all of the seats?
ewbrooman1
I like the new court. I'm happy to see the original Fear the Roo design used. I never understood why they changed it or why they didn't do a better job of attaching it to the U of A name on apparel, either. The original is creepier looking and better lends itself to the "fear" aspect. I've never bought anything with the revised logo on it. Just my little pet peeve, though. It does make me wonder which logo they will use next, though
Zip_ME87
A friend of mine asked why there is an "N" on the middle of our new court?..."Will they add the AKRO in front of it?" he asked. I wonder when they will add the "ero" as in Z logo is a big zero, or Zero wins in the NCAA Tournament.Actually, the new floor does look nice, even though I'm no a fan of the Z logo. Now fix the darn seating!

kreed5120
I certainly hope nothing huge. They will be getting pennies back on the dollar for anything they put into that place. I'd rather just see them put that money in a separate account, let it grow interest, and use it 10-15 years from now towards a new arena. Edit: I'd be all for buying those lights and stuff that they had rented for the Kent game. It helped create an exciting atmosphere and is something they can take to a new arena. Considering the market just bottomed out, or at least I hope it did, we should expect to see a decent 10-15 year ROI. Edit: Assuming a modest 8% return, 10 million today would be 30+ million 15 years from now. Even adjusting for a 3% inflation that would be 20+ million in todays dollars. kreed5120
Historically the market has returned 8%-10%. Easy in a downturn market to think that is an unachievable mark, but 3 years ago, I would have scoffed at such a pitiful return. http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~adamodar/New_Home_Page/datafile/histretSP.html
