It's been 7 years since Akron has won in that gym. Assuming everyone is back healthy, we SHOULD win but that's been the case just about every time we go here, so...

Lots of new faces this year for the Bulls. Their new coach Nate Oats is very likable and his wife is battling cancer. I wish them nothing but the best.

They're 7-6 and have beaten who they should beat and lost to who they should have lost to. I'd expect nothing less than a typical Akron-Buffalo grind it I out battle.

Go Zips!!!!

The Bulls are quite a mix of old and new faces this year. Gone are last year's top three scorers in Justin Moss, Shannon Evans, and Xavier Ford. Evans transferred out to follow Hurley to ASU and Moss was kicked off the team after an on-campus theft. Unlucky for the Canadians as they were set up to be very good this year. They lack the typical dominant big man that so many recent Buffalo teams have had with the trio of recent MAC POYs in Moss, McCrea, and Watt, and their top 6 scorers are all guys under 6-5.

Their best player is one of last year's most promising-looking freshman, PG Lamonte Bearden. He, Jarryn Skeete, and freshman CJ Massinburg form a very big, athletic backcourt. Noah, Antino, and Josh will have their hands full with them. I worry about their penetration and we really need our guards to stay in front of them. I believe we have a big advantage in the frontcourt, however. Their leading rebounder is 6-5 Rodell Wigginton and they have a ton of inexperience among their forwards. I look for Big Dog to continue his strong play and cross my fingers that Jake and Pat will be able to go. Road conference games, especially at Alumni Arena, are always tough and we need everyone healthy.

We got a vote in the AP poll

Just was about to post this. Looks like our Zips aren't that far out of the national spotlight. We have a very difficult first few weeks of our conference schedule. Hopefully everyone is healthy. If the Zips happen to start 6-0 in conference, and that's asking a lot with games at Buffalo, CMU and Toledo, we'll be close to the top 25 again. Ironically, we play at Buffalo tomorrow, the place where we got knocked down after our first top 25 appearance. Dig deep tomorrow, Zips!

I haven't seen it posted anywhere yet, so I'll just put it on here. If it was posted elsewhere already, I apologize for this post.

EDIT: Wow. Maybe it's time for me set up an eye appointment. Yikes...

E.A. must be dreaming-EMU rated #1 in the MAC.Talk about a weak non-conference schedule-here are their wins:

Vermont,Sienna Heights,Marygrove College,Madonna(didn't know she played hoops), Omaha,Rochester College,Coppin State,Detroit. And some of you still complain about our OCC. By season's end those 2 wins over UCSB and Iona will look much better-those 2 as I previously stated would be in the upper 1/3 of the MAC. Also E.A. fails to rate CMU in his top 5-they are easily better than Cant or Buffalo. I watched Cant twice and am not impressed-middle of the pack in the MAC at best. Zips over Buffalo by 9 or more.

It's nice to see us show up in the AP Poll. Can anyone ever remember us showing up as receiving a vote this early in the season?

It may not seem as if it means much right now, but think of the number of people who see this every week, and see our name. And I'm sure it gives an idea to the other writers who have a vote to start looking at Akron.

And maybe the tough opening MAC schedule is a blessing. It'll count as something more significant to the pollsters, especially if they still remember how Buffalo was their little "darling" at the end of last season.

UA fans are the last people that should be talking bad about someone else's OCC schedule.

Judging a team solely based on OOC is dumb though. When you look good, you look good. When you look bad, you look bad. EMU hasn't been very impressive this year whether it's Coppin State or MSU. They are a tough team but I don't think they're tops right now at all.

I agree with you. UA is the best team in the MAC - and I don't think it's close.

So does anybody have the straight scoop on Jake and Pat ? I'm guessing is green lights for both but would like to know if they will be able to go full tilt boogie tonight.

Also....

There is probably more parity than ever in this conference this season. The perennial bottom feeders have taken a step up while most of the better teams ( Not UA ) may have taken a step or two back. Road victories are going to be even tougher to grab for everybody this season

That "report" is an absolute joke. Really? The 11-2 HOME TEAM, starting conference play, going on the road to a tough venue, and approaching being ranked in the Top 25 ?

A game time, TV, and a few player stats?

Maybe the person who posted it is a little bitter that his "team down south" isn't even on the college basketball radar this year, and little ole Akron is climbing.

I literally LOL'd. Just when you think the ABJ can't get any worse. How does this guy have a job there? What kind of scouting report is that? Elton takes some flack, but what he publishes is light years better than this shit, and he doesn't even work for the hometown paper!
