We laid an egg in Athens and if we play like we did that afternoon even Miami would beat us. Buffalo is the team that truly worries me. Winning the MACC with Big Dog as the nucleus of the team is going to be a challenge regardless of who we play on Saturday night. 3 games in 3 days is really tough on Dog. It's why we need to get Hughes back in formand playing at a high level. If we can get Big Dog's minutes down to ~27 a game come Cleveland instead of 32-34, that should help. What would really be nice is if we went off 1 of those games and was able to rest Big Dog the second. We haven't done that all MAC season so that might be a bit optimistic. Maybe you can make the point that this isn't a "best player on best team" award, and that it should simply go to the best player. But, we're talking about a guy who chucks up the ball all night on an average team. We have a great team that would not be great without Big Dog. They are tied for second. If CMU is not relevant in the MAC this year, then I don't know who is outside of Akron.

You can give a POY award to a one-dimensional player on a .500 team. I wouldn't. If scoring the most points won POY awards, there wouldn't be any reason for these debates. You honestly have to ask yourself ....who's the best player in this league? But the other point is that there's still plenty of season left to be played. kreed5120
Personally, I feel MAC POY should go to the MAC's best player, which I feel Big Dog is. However, if the season ended today, I believe based on past voting behavior that the voters would choose Keene. Still games to be played so things can change. I think the answer is still Keene. We've seen one dimensional players each year, but none of them routinely drop 30+. He's good
zippyfan34
I don't think it will be a runaway either way. If Big Dog gets us through the regular season with one loss I think it is his. If we end with 3 losses it could go either way depending on where CMU finishes.
clarkwgriswold
I'd like to see Dog's stats of he got 21 shots a game like Keene, rather than 10.
LZIp
You guys are acting like Keene is some inefficient chucker. His FG%, 3pt%, and FT% are all pretty dang good. He would be top 2 or 3 in all of those categories on our team when counting just guards or guys that actually play. He would even be the leading player in assists per/game by 1.9 (so much for saying he doesn't pass). Obviously I want Big Dog to win, but just warning you all now not to be disappointed when it doesn't happen. zippy5
He passed Fredette and Curry for most 40 point games.
clarkwgriswold
Keane's a wonderful player. I'm just a homer. Interesting how he started at YSU and how he found his way to CMU.
Blue & Gold
I'd be shocked if Keene didn't win POY.
Let'sGoZips94
POY and MVP are 2 COMPLETELY different categories. This was a hot topic when Steph Curry won the MVP over LeBron and some other guys like Westbrook, Harden, etc. Keene should be the unanimous POY. The guy leads the NCAA in PPG by 7! Big Dog is the MAC MVP, but won't get the POY award.
NWAkron
Since I've been a voice of reason today I will switch gears and be a conspiracy monger and add: if we are playing CMU in the final at the Q, the bias will be to get the nation's leading scorer in the NCAA tournament at all costs. And you all know how that could play out

NWAkron
Looks like there is/will be some separation developing and Zips, Bulls, Chipps, and Kittens will be top four seeds. Hopefully, in that order.
skip-zip
We moved up to #39 in the RPI. I think that's now the highest spot this year, and we've moved 10 spots in the last week. We're one of the few top teams that's had a "double arrow" upward movement this week. Nice to see that we've erased the losses from the OU game, and then some. zippy5
I've heard top 40 teams with the double arrow make the tournament 90% of the time, every time

Maybe you're now solidly justified in that thought. I mean, this is a team that needed overtime, at home, to beat Daemen College a couple of months ago. And they lost their first 2 HOME conference games. But in the last couple of week, they pushed us to the limit at home, and followed that with 3 wins in a row in convincing fashion. Unless something happens to change my mind, I have that game ranked as our #1 chance to get another regular season loss, and our #1 threat for a MAC tournament title. NWAkron
Assuming Central lays smackdown on Miami today, looks like the top 3 seeds are crystallizing and hopefully an epic brutal semi final ensues between Bulls and Chipps in Cleveland. LZIp
You guys are taking the only team that has beat us in conference play all year too lightly. Almost like you guys are going out of your way not to mention them lol. They seem to have found their stride without Campbell and Simmons straight up embarrassed us in Ahtens. OU and Buffalo are probably the 2 teams that worry me most in Cleveland. Edited February 11, 2017 by LZIp
