UAZippers
Does anyone know why Dunn-Martin has fallen so far down the depth chart? He makes a few mistakes here and there, but I feel like he can make some great plays. He only played 3 minutes tonight, the fewest of any Akron player that entered the game. 1981 grad
Dunn Martin got beat on the last play of the half. We were in catch up mode and KD went with his veterans. When you are a first year player you will get taken out if you get beat on defense.

The pass down to Big Dog late in the game was a mistake. I actually thought that was a great play (I was expecting to see a lob to a cutting Ivey, which has worked this year). The fact that Maric was on Robotham made it a smart move ... Big Dog just needed to finish that bunny.

The play I am referring to was very late in the game and they fouled him as soon as he got the ball on the inbounds and he missed the first half of the one and one. Agreed, this one was with about 90 seconds left that is our typical inbound lob to Big Dog. We were up 5 I believe and were in the one in one and you knew they would foul him right away. Still, that one maybe wouldn't have been as bad if he actually did shoot the ball, lol. He knew exactly what NIU was doing. Still, I do agree, that 18-foot lob near the baseline isn't exactly the play you draw up when you're in the one-and-one and Big Dog is getting the pass. That should've been where they tried to get something to Ivey going to the rim. Edited February 1, 2017 by wadszip
Hilltopper
You guys need to have a little more faith in the team. There was no yelling in the locker room, there was no panic in the huddle. Just before the start of the second half Keith told the guys to just play our game and get some stops and we will win. He was right.

And earlier in the season KD was even letting him play through mistakes, which KD doesn't normally do w/ freshmen. That starting lineup is so cohesive you know good things can happen if they can stay on floor. Antino and Noah remind me (in some illogical way) of my favorite point guard combo of Roberts and McNees...You can trust they will get it done. Blue & Gold
Beacon Journal: Zips rally from 14-point deficit to extend winning streak to 12 games But Johnson kicked things up and dominated the second half. He scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half and Jackson joined him, scoring 15 of his own. skip-zip
Tavian: Guys, I wouldn't read too much into that situation. Keith has a long tendency to go with the veterans that he trusts. And we were in trouble in this game fairly early. I don't think he's being put in any "dog house" for mistakes. Antino: Yes, he played a great game last night. But I have been pointing out for several games that he's also become the emotional leader of this team. And I've seen that particularly on the defensive end of the floor. That's exactly what this team needs. And his own defensive plays last night were just as pivotal to the outcome of that game as his offense. kreed5120
If we can't be that defense that defends for a full 30 seconds and forces our opponents to take difficult shots, we need to be a defense that can create turnovers. We came into last night ~300 in the country in steals averaging ~5 per game. Last night we had 11. The way we played defense that 2nd half is the way we'll need to play defense down the stretch if we hope to get into a position to pick up that ever elusive NCAAT win. Oh wait, it was a staff report and the game was on ESPN3. Oh well, at least they reported on it.

clarkwgriswold
We need to see that defense for entire games, not just when their backs are against the wall.

But short of that, I'm with you. These guys know how to win. You are what your record says you are. 19-3 is pretty good.
kreed5120
Briefly skimmed through the NIU message board and encountered some pretty great stuff. They went from a top of the world feeling when they had that big 1st half lead to complete pitch forks we need to fire our coach mode. http://csnbbs.com/thread-807490.html

They're grinding it out and winning games that, in the past, they probably lose.
