It's hard to imagine this team playing hard in the NIT after seeing their effort in the Championship game. But, I hope they show up to play.  I think they can do well if properly motivated. It's not the tournament we wanted but I want to see my team play more basketball. I don't think we are at the point with our program that we can act like we are above playing in the NIT.

Hand each player a mirror. That's where motivation starts.

If they weren't motivated to play their rival in a championship game to earn a ticket to the dance; you think their going to be motivated to play away games in the NIT????    Please reference all those great wins in the CIT & CBI tourneys!!!

I am relishing the opportunity for the Zips to prove they're the 69th best team in the country.

1) You don't follow college basketball very well if you believe that the NIT Champ is the 69th best team in the nation.

2) An NIT Championship would be absolutely incredible for this program.  Unlikely, but incredible.

Easy Skip.  It was a joke and an expression of disappointment.

I agree, I too cannot see this team playing "up" for any more games this year.  It's over.  Every year it's over, once outside the NCAA, heck, inside too.  Akron SHOULD look at an NIT berth as a second chance, but they don't and they won't.  Never have, never will.  They're feeling sorry for themselves because they lost last night, they believe they are better than they are, and they'll fold up the tent no matter who they play in the NIT, CBA, Vegas, CYO, Akron Industrial League playoffs, etc.

Will probably screw us on not hosting a NIT game again

That is just about guaranteed. As much complaining as there is about the NCAA selection committee year in and year out the NIT committee is usually far worse.

Sounds like this forum too.

When Akron lost on a last second bank shot years ago, everyone was upset that we did not get an NIT invitation and the NCAA changed the rule so that conference champions received an NIT bid.  Now that we are in the NIT, all I have heard is negativity regarding this tournament.  On the post game show, the announcers indicated nobody wanted to play in the NIT, and the asst coach on the post game did not seem thrilled about the NIT.  I understand that the interview was right after our loss but it is the 2nd best tournament.  It would be great if we could make a post season run in the NIT.  We will be playing a high level team and if we win we could get another home game.  We loss our bid to the NCAA and we need to get over it and show the country that we have a good basketball program.  I remember last year how poorly the team played against Ohio State and I hope that we will not have a repeat of that game.  Lets forget the past and make something happen in the future.  Go Zips!!

By what reasoning do you think the Zips could and would perform well in an NIT game?  Seriously.  I am curious.

I agree.  There won't be a home game.  And if last year's #34 RPI got us a 6 Seed, expect the same or worse this year with a #52 RPI.

And to your point, did anyone else see them talking about Syracuse as if they barely missed the NCAA?  They had an #84 RPI.  Give me a break.  That demonstrates your point quite well.

At Buffalo and at Kent.  Did not think they would win either game.  I am not predicting that they will win but I think they could play a competitive game against anyone in the NIT.  I am hoping  they draw a Wed. game so they get the extra day rest.
