The college games were always several years behind the pro games, but they were better than nothing. I just don't have a game system that'll run the oldies.

Aren't most of the new systems backwards compatible? My Xbox Series X can run Xbox 360 and Xbox ONE ...

https://collegefootballnews.com/news/ncaa-academic-progress-rate-2024-apr-ranking-of-all-134-college-football-schools

Is this APR dumb or do I not understand it after all these years?  UA is last on the 2024 list.  Ohio State is first.  The standards for scoring up to 1000 points seems to be rather meaningless, much of it depending today on the "stability" of your roster in the context of the transfer portal - not so much the true academic performance of the individual student-athletes. When Number 1 scores 1000 and Number 134 scores 925, what does this really reveal? Maybe it's just that the scoring scale is senseless. Scale it 0-100 just to be closer to an academic score range. Did Akron score low because at the time of evaluation it simply had fewer athletes on the roster who could be categorized as 1. being enrolled on scholarship and 2 having completed courses at UA in good acadmeic standing?

From the NCAA, the APR is calculated as follows ...

- Each student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible.

- A team’s total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team’s Academic Progress Rate.

- In addition to a team’s current-year APR, its rolling four-year APR is also used to determine accountability.

APR is about to become meaningless for P5 conferences/teams.  Hopefully not for schools/programs that still value the concept of student/athlete.

having said that, being last in this area is not something we should be proud of.  Need to take a hard look at why this is the case - is it a natural outcome of a program overhaul or is Akron trying too hard to "win now" at the risk of a shitty graduation rate?

Awesome. Now fans won't have to feel the pride in seeing their team's logo at midfield. Instead, they can be inspired by a Draft Kings logo. It's all so gross.

If you’re not a fan of whoever’s logos are on the field, just look up and observe all the fine logos covering up some of the best places to sit as a GA ticket holder. Gotta favor the Tuesday ESPN watchers over the actual fans in attendance.

They will not be at midfield, if they do it they will be outside the hash’s around the 30

actually I'm hoping it's some national brand like DK or Coke and not just a local credit union or heating/cooling co. which looks small time.

I'm hoping a Mexican drug cartel sponsors a field just to prove how shameless athletic directors are.

I would say the "field sponsor" rule is not new, just evolved. Technically we have had sponsorships on the field since InfoCision opened. It used to be that as long as the sponsor was involved in the naming of the stadium/field it could be shown. Now any brand is allowed. I don't think any school is switching out the main logo at midfield for a sponsor. It says it can be at the 50 yard line, but that most likely means below or above the current midfield logo.

I watched Pete talk about this on Pat McAfee today. Hearing the explanation of how this would work, I'm going to agree with Pat McAfee - this is incredibly stupid business.

However, the MAC should explore a variation of this. The idea Pat had would be to sell marketing rights where all the games are "Presented by (insert company here)" instead of outright naming rights.

Thanks for posting this. I threw up in my mouth a little when I saw the news.

If I may, I'd like to throw in some more adjectives. In addition to stupid, it's gross, disgusting, greedy, obnoxious, degrading, nauseating, and predictable.

An adult dance club should sponsor one of the leagues - that would at least be more accurate to the actions of these power conferences.

Nobody wants this level of corporate involvement. This decision is getting destroyed, and these spineless commissioners and ADs don't care as long as their pockets are lined. All it would take is for a group of people with integrity, morals, and a spine to say, "SEC, Big Ten - you can go sword fight in the same urinal together. We don't want to play your game and instead want to cater to the fans of COLLEGE ATHLETICS, not your semi-pro BS. Enjoy whatever the future has in store." Then create a separate league that goes back to the roots of college athletics.

Side note: I did see someone suggest that Anheuser-Busch should sponsor a league and name it Busch League. I might be able to get on board with that haha.

I don't know what the roots of college athletics are. There has always been a level of sleaze in athletics. There is a level of sleaze in everything.

I would like to see a separate division that provides a great experience for the athletes students alumni fans and general communities around the schools. With some thought and effort it shouldn't be that difficult or expensive. Stat with playing every game on Saturday when you can maximize the benefits to every group.

You're incredibly naive if you believe MAC commissioner, ADs and presidents aren't already talking about this as a revenue possibility as well.

The Marathon Athletic Conference would still technically be the MAC

It's crazy to me that anyone would rename a conference after a sponsor. But then again it's not much different than say the FedEx Cup, G-League or Bowl Games.

I just hope they keep some consistency and don't change names every season.
