I have no problem with schools switching to simplistic monogram logos. Most of the biggest schools in the country are known for their iconic logos. Michigan, NotreDame, Ohio State, etc.

The real problem is in the execution. Vanderbilt and UA did a great job. Western is blah and George Mason is terrible.

There's a difference between rebranding to a corporate aesthetic and rebranding to be more modern while maintaining the college aesthetic.

Vanderbilt's is borderline but sharp. It screams Ivy League School of the SEC.

Akron's is both sharp and sporty.

George Mason looks like they're hosting the east coast knock-off version of the Waste Management Open.

Western's is just atrocious. They did themselves no favors when they look into a frat house toilet on a Sunday morning for inspiration when picking their school's colors.

Huh.  Just goes to show you how subjective taste is.  I think Vanderbilt's is the most boring and therefore bad of the group. Simple block letters may be sported by some iconic schools but you can't shortcut your way to icon status by copying their logo, and I say again, Vanderbilt's is boring. The Michigan block M is boring.

I actually like Western Michigan's...the drawback to having brown as one of your primary colors is obvious, so I admire any team with the guts to do it.  Come to think of it, all NE Ohio football fans should understand what I'm saying.

I'm neutral on both Akron's and George Mason's. My alltime favorite Akron logo is the A with the kangaroo head.

A lot of times a school's athletic logos become so iconic that the academic side takes it over and uses it as well. Texas, Miami (FL), Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Ohio State are all good examples.

George Mason feels like the complete opposite. An academic logo that's being used by sports teams. It's not a bad logo, but it's a bad sports logo.

Having said that, their pre-2004 logo was even worse and their 2004-2024 logo wasn't anything special either.

So chances are their fanbase won't really care.

Their fan base is pissed. A10 Twitter right now has George Mason as the punchline to all their jokes.

"I would like to congratulate Duquesne on no longer having the worst logo in the A10"

For me personally, there is too much variance in the execution/application of the Akron logo. Sometimes the letter strokes appear thicker or thinner depending on the background. It’s not a mathematical problem, it’s an optical illusion problem. The fuller thicker line version is much more preferred.

I took a moment to recreate the Akron Logo to illustrate my point. This is the three ways the logo appears on the Akron jersey. They are all scaled exactly the same. But notice how the top one appears to be thicker than the others. This is the color combination I like the best.

Edit: I should add that the visual discrepancy is worse on television.

This doesn't look as favorable as the Net Overall, but the fact that we are in the top 40 is great. Especially considering there are approximately 350 Division 1 basketball schools.

Pretty incredible, and we still have 1 roster spot left.

What I find interesting is how low the ratings were for the players not named Freeman we lost this offseason. Freeman was one of the higher rated players according to SBU's metrics, but our NET is higher ranked than strictly our overall additions.

the middle ones on white look blurry to me. I like the blue on gold.

I think this might be the way to go on the white background, thoughts?

Okay, I'm done. I do care about these things, but I'm not getting paid and I don't want to upset anybody. I know how much work goes into it.

Another guard???

3P specialist. Very pure shot with a quick release. We win 2-3 more games minimum last season if Freeman had this type of shot to kick it out to.

Teams are going to have a real problem defending against us. Do you push guys off the perimeter like we did to PCCC? If so, that's gonna leave Okonkwo to feast. Do you defend the interior and pray we're cold from deep? You're gonna have Hardman, Harris, Wilson, Young, and Nate Johnson - at minimum - to defend against the 3. That's 5 guys who can shoot the ball above 30% from 3, most of whom will probably eclipse the 35-37% threshold. That doesn't include Gray who will break your jaw with his shoulders on any dribble drives.

Tavari has a very clear role defined now as more of a true PG with Sharron Young. Hopefully that takes some pressure off of him and he can play more within himself.

The biggest development keys are Lyles and MMK. We need someone to step up on the interior to give meaningful minutes and help out Okonkwo.

I just read about Hardman.   The good:  all academic player with a great three point shot.  The bad:  His defense kept him from playing more time at Ohio State.  Basically, another bench player with limited minutes coming from a big program to Akron.  Glad to see Groce getting some shooters on this team.

Have not done a ton of research, but this add is a bit of head scratcher for me. the need for a big was more important.
From 3 last season

Tavari shot 45%

Nate shot 32%

Scott shot 30%

Harris shot 32%

wilson shot 38%

gray shot 24%

Young shot over 40% in highschool.

we have shooters but only have 1 proven big. I would love to see Hardman highschool tape. If he is more then spot up shooter then I LOVE the add… as he has 2 years of eligibility

I mentioned this before, but I suspect this team is built to look more like Toledo did last year when they had four guards and 6'7" Javan Simmons on the floor.

Also, I think that sometimes we have unrealistic expectations of transfers.  Not every transfer is brought in to be a major piece or a star.  Sometimes, they're brought in as quality depth or role players.

I totally agree Josiah Harris will be playing the 4 and we will be guard oriented.

affer watching a mixtape from Hardman highschool days he is a spot up shooter not a shot creator. Think Kyle korver not Luka Dončić. Good depth add but I would not assume he starts. It is never a bad thing to have a sniper in your arsenal as a coach. Let’s hope the few bigs we have can keep us afloat down low.
