3rd and 7, crossing route play call... 15 yds down the field. Why the hell is that not a 5 yd slant going up field where the receiver can catch and either turn up field for more yardage or simply fall forward for 2-3 more yards? I really don't understand Joe Mo's play calling. Saquon Barkley made him look damn good apparently cause his "genius" isn't showing with G5 talent.

If he would have at least hit the guy coming down field instead of just standing there the ball would have went into the endzone.  I wonder if this is the same guy who fumbled last week?

I'm a Morehead guy but his field presence and body language does not project anything positive for me.

Seems like whenever they show him he's just shaking his head and looks sort of confused. Maybe he's frustrated that the team has had so many missed opportunities this game to get back into it.

 

Is it too much to ask for the Zips to have a QB that can hit wide open receivers?

It's not. You have a QB that has happy feet because of the pressure he's facing, and he's being tasked with a 15 yd crossing route instead of a 5 yd crossing route. Watch the best offenses in the country - they use the short crossing routes to get the ball into the hands of their playmakers and let them make plays moving up the field (not sideline to sideline like we LOVE to do).

I think the announcers for homers are pretty good.   They commented that Akron should not run wide because of South Carolina's speed and Akron has done much better running the ball near the middle.  They are also correct in that Akron has gotten some pressure on the QB.  Finally, great point that Akron has few chances and Finley missing wide open receivers is the death knell for a team trying to pull off an upset.

Well gents. We expected to come into conference play 1-3 and here we are. We are meeting expectations. My hope is they can still "get up" for the MAC games and maybe win 3-4. The problem is we say this every year and they marginally look better and still fall flat.  Eternally optimistic but always disappointed.

I do not know why Finley is still in the game.  Even the announcers indicated he has had happy feet and has taken a beating.  Why are the announcers seeing more than our coach?  That last throw was pathetic!!!!
