Do we just think he just hasn't picked up any valuable knowledge working in Athletics for so long?

Any?...No. Enough?....Yes.

Akron needs someone younger with a lot of energy and nearly sociopathic about getting the football program turned around. Background at a football first school should be required. Evidence of making an athletic department benefit the athletes students alumni fans and general community around the school required. The football program has carried the weight for far too long. Time to get it turned around.

Then my vote is Marcus Jennings, current CFO of the Athletic Department.  He seems to have been the "adult in the room" these past few years.

I was thinking him as well (assuming Guthrie wasn’t forced out/Nemer generally happy with Gurhrie’s tenure). From Akron if I recall as well, so may not be the first to bolt at another opportunity  and allows us to have some continuity.

...and not cut their budget when you are sending them into strictly money driven early season games.

I understand the branding/logo issues are frustrating but I'd be fine with them going full Penn State for a reasonable football program.

If they won a minute seven games a year wearing only their jockstraps, I'd be okay.

I don’t know anything about what Akron needs at the AD position, but listening to Bud Wentz on podcasts I think hiring him to run the search would be an excellent idea.

He and Kaulig need to team up. Kaulig is a former Zips QB that is the founder/CEO of LeafFilter and now Kaulig racing. He is a billionaire and owns part of the Cleveland Guardians. Somehow, we haven't been able to take the right step in football despite his involvement. I want his address book combed thoroughly for connections to who would be the right AD, though. Then Wentz can vet them to make sure they fit the Zips vision.

Couldn't disagree more. At some point we have to accept that our football program is never going to compete at a high level at the D1 level. With NIL creating an even bigger divide tham before, I see most of the MAC moving down to D2 or creating their own subdivision within the next 10 years. We already have a beautiful stadium. We already have fantastic facilities. And it hasn't mattered. What is a new AD going to change or bring in?

We need to finally build around our successful programs. There's plenty of blueprints out there to be a basketball-first school and have a successful athletic program. We have the coach, we have the winning tradition, we have competitive NIL in place thanks for the FTR Collective. Build around that instead of continuing to do something that's just never going to happen.

Hopefully the new guy hires a creative professional when they redo the branding.

UA's branding was done by Joe Bosack Co. The best in the business when it comes to athletics branding.

I didn't like the new A logo at first, but it's really grown on me. I love it now. Keep it around and potentially just add a Zippy secondary mark.

Joe did what he was told. The customer is always right.

During the selection process there were better designs. More clever designs. And Guthrie forced his lame, amateur Graphic Designer effort on us. Beyond that, he fixed a problem that didn’t exist, when he should have been focusing on real problems. Yay…he rearranged the deck chairs on the Titanic.

There’s a reason the guy’s gone, and it isn’t because anyone was impressed with his graphic designer capabilities.

Hope our next AD isn’t a putz. Based upon history there’s a 75% chance he/she/they will be.

I love the new A

I was okay with about every logo for the last 20 years: the kangaroo with Akron Zips across it, the A with the kangaroo head, the Z and the new A.  The only one I disliked was the awful script Akron.

You are right. Along with the rest of the mac we'll never be able to compete at the highest level. We could complete at a level between FCS and FBS. This level will exist before too long. We should stay right where we are.

Also, along with the rest of the MAC well never compete against the highest level of basketball.

May not compete at the highest level .... but ... Zips/MAC can compete against high level teams. And should do it consistently.

For some history context- if the Zips didn’t have a D1 football program we wouldn’t be in the MAC. And our basketball program wouldn’t be where it is today. With basically a 40% chance of getting in the NCAA tournament every year.

If we drop a division we won’t be in the MAC. Unless there’s a new Division for those who can’t, and shouldn’t run with the NIL big dogs. And basketball would suffer.

Be competitive in the MAC in football and build from there. It’s the most financially responsible route while staying relevant across the collegiate athletics board.

I doubt he'll survive.   Marcus was Charles' right hand man.   I doubt Charles made any decisions without talking with Marcus first.

The perception would be that you would just be continuing the same problem.

If one goes, chances are high, that the other goes too.

I don't agree. We've already been on the brink of doing so already.

I don't want someone who is isn't interested in advancing their career. Accomplishments advance careers. Akron needs meaningful accomplishments.

Aren't you the one that complains about everything ADs do to pad their resumes and move on?

Agreed. We can't keep switching logos with every AD. Like it or not, it needs to stay

Is continuity from this administration a good thing?
