kreed5120 Posted May 5 Report Posted May 5 I think you guys give the NCAA more credit than they deserve. They only exist because the P4 allows them to. The courts stripped away much of their power and the little power they do still have the P4 holds them as a hostage at gunpoint. Case in point, who wanted the expanded tournament? It was the P4 schools so they could get more 18-15 into the tournament and take more NCAA credits from mid-majors. Not to mention allows them to avoid more costly coaching fires since select P4 programs are content just making the tournament. The second the NCAA doesn't comply the P4+ will just pull out and start their own league. They're the real ones calling the shots. The NCAA is just the fall guy that conferences can point their fingers at to deflect the blame. Their version of Roger Goodell 4 Quote

They are a spineless group of suits that lack any sort of moral compass. Quote

Let'sGoZips94 Posted May 14 Report Posted May 14 The High Points and Miami OHs of the world better not drop the ball vs. a tougher schedule. Would be flat out embarrassing and detrimental for mid-majors everywhere if they stink up the joint after they made all this noise about P4 schools being "too scared" to play them. Quote

High Point has games scheduled vs LSU, Saint Louis, and George Mason so far. One Power 5 team is an upgrade. Quote
kreed5120 Posted Thursday at 10:56 PM Report Posted Thursday at 10:56 PM NIT shrinking to 24 teams. I imagine much of this is driven by how many programs reject participating these days. https://x.com/GoodmanHoops/status/2105684213538107773 Quote
csims0917 Posted Friday at 11:41 AM Report Posted Friday at 11:41 AM It keeps the combined teams in the NIT and March madness at 100 68 + 32 vs 76 + 24 Quote

Those 8 additional spots will almost certainly go to the P5, maybe occasionally a PAC-12 or A10 can use it to sneak in. Last year only 4 P5 (P4+Big East) participated in the NIT. 2 Quote

Not intending to get political, but I'm thinking once the house of representatives returns and approves the the senate bill it will give the NCAA the power to bypass the court rulings and govern the sport as it sees fit. That would make all these court rulings irrelevant. If that's true none of them will be eligible. Quote

The House is currently out of session after Speaker Johnson sent members home last week to campaign for midterm elections after Thomas Massie introduced impeachment articles against Pete Hegseth. That means they won't vote on anything until at least mid-November, and even then, support for the bill will depend on the results of the midterms. Quote

The senate bill passed by a filibuster proof majority and had bipartisan approval at a time Democrats and Republicans can't agree on anything. How long it drags out likely depends on if the house puts the senate bill up for a vote or tries to amend it, which would then means it has to go back to the senate for approval once again. If it's approved and signed into law by mid-November then that still would give the NCAA the power to make those players ineligible. Maybe a few get to play a few OOC games, but by in large the NCAA would still be able to ban them for the bulk of the season, particularly for the conference and postseason games, which are what really matters.
