They need something Tuesdays and Wednesdays this time of year; enter MACtion, which has become a beloved brand for that group of people. Pat McAfee, Barstool, etc. all wore MACtion shirts last week. Give them horse racing. They will bet on anything at any time. Make Saturday 56 games. They don't care. Barstool is for gambling degenerates. McAfee is a company guy who will do anything for the team. Quote
Ham Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago Now that Kent has a pulse, this will be a tough game. I've lost all hope that Finley will complete 65%, but at least I hope for no stupid mistakes. I think the D will continue to shine, and the O will score just enough. Zips 24 -- Flashes 17 1 Quote

Not sure I'd be ragging on any team for having "two remaining fans" given the only FBS team with fewer people attending games than Akron is the one that is 1-8 and plays 70 miles from its campus right now. It's Kent. Every detail of their existence is worth ragging on. 1 Quote

kreed5120 Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Hard to take college football attendance numbers seriously. I'm not sure if it's still a requirement, but it used to be every 2 or 3 years a school had to average 15k fans to remain FBS compliant. You would see schools, like Akron, buy 10s of thousands of tickets from their athletic department to remain compliant. That's why if you go back and look you will see Akron averaged 15k fans 1 year, but average 8k the next. 1 Quote

I'm not sure the requirement ever formally went away, but it's certainly not been enforced for quite awhile. Not sure getting booted out of FBS is the worst thing ever, but that's an entirely different discussion. Quote
csims0917 Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Back to the game. We SHOULD win; we are the more talented and experienced team. This is our game to lose via turnovers, penalties, and special team blunders. If we play complimentary football like we have the last few weeks we should be good. But you never know unfortunately. Rivalry games are tight for a reason. 2 Quote
MangoZip Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago Can’t give up any special teams TD’s. They have a really good kick returner that has taken a few to the house - and we’ve given up a few this year. Have to keep it away from him! Quote

I'd be surprised if we don't continue the pooch kickoffs that we saw last week against UMass. 3 Quote
GP1 Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago I anticipate a close game through three quarters with Akron having at least a seven point advantage. In the fourth, Akron pulls away with points off of a turnover winning by 14. The only reason it's this close is Kent scores with under two minutes remaining to avoid total humiliation. Quote

The rest being on Saturday. That would make it so that each team would only have to play midweek twice (once at home and once on the road). That would allow midweek TV spots to be filled and will give fans 1 more Saturday game to attend. Hell, just protect the rivalry games. There is no reason for Akron-Kent to be played on a Tuesday evening at 7:30 in November. I'm fine with it against literally any other opponent, but this should have been a Saturday noon kickoff. I believe it would have been a decent crowd and generated at least some mild buzz for the program locally. Instead, we will probably get a bit more than last week, which was downright embarrassing. 3 Quote

Guess it depends what money ESPN is offering on a new deal to keep MAC attendance way down for the last of the season. Quote

Side note...maybe we keep it to 7 PM kickoffs in the next MACtion contract, given there's no central time zone teams anymore? Quote

You'll need the Elite package for ESPNU, and you can cancel after the game without being charged. However, unlike many free trials, cancelling right after signing up will terminate the trial immediately so make sure you set a reminder for Wednesday/Thursday/Friday. Thanks for this! Been trying to figure out the best way to watch and definitely not signing up for ESPN Unlimited. PS: Anyone with YouTube TV make sure to claim your $20 off vouchers. There's also a $10 off for 6 months promo in the "manage plan" settings. 2 1 Quote
