Nolan Smith (former Duke player) at Tennessee State would be an outstanding hire for any of these programs. What he did this year was pretty remarkable.

Earl Grant was just fired from Boston College and I think he would be another solid option as well. He had a nice run at Charleston prior to taking the Boston College job so he has shown he can win and compete at this level. Boston College is a tough place to win. No shame in not being able to cut it at the P5 level.

Michael Lewis (Ball State) and Rashon Burno (NIU) both out.  I really thought Michael Lewis had a chance to build something at Ball State but it was all downhill after year 1.  Burno was completely checked out Friday.

NIU dressed nine players Friday. Almost looked like a scene from Hoosiers. What was up with that. A couple of the guards were actually good and played the passing lanes well, but the team did not look well-coached.

Excuse me, sir, this thread is for MAC talk. As of Friday night, NIU is no longer a member, therefore this post is in the wrong thread.

(Giving you a hard time, plus, that is fantastic to say lol)

Technically they are in the MAC until July 1st.

Edit: That day can't come soon enough.

Marshall just lost to 10 seed Georgia Southern. UNCG lost to Furman earlier. Only Wright State remains as a potential conference champion in their OOC. They play Northern Kentucky tomorrow for the title.

Edit: Technically Arkansas Pine Bluff is still in their conference tourney. Long shot to win it all.

What's crazy given the SunBelts absurd bracket is Georgia Southern has won 5 games in 5 days, which the announcers said has never been done before. They still need 1 more win to advance to the tournament.

They were ~.500 when the tourney began. They have over 20 wins now lol.

The last team I remember seeing do something like this in a regular season rivalry game ended up losing to their rival by 20 pts in the MAC Final.

This year, Miami OH and Akron are rivals. Get. To. Saturday.

I just read Groce's contract and if he makes that shot, Groce gets a $37,000 bonus for being champions of the MAC.

I think Groce will survive financially without it.

Hope Mark Montgomery and Detroit win the tournament.

I told an NIU fan a day or two ago that if NIU never planned to fund basketball they should have just kept Montgomery. They would certainly be in a better position today if they had.

He at least kept them in the middle of the pack in the MAC. Not really sure NIU can expect more out of a coach unless they start taking basketball seriously.

We've received 1 vote in the AP top 25 poll

The AP Top 25 is such an antiquated joke. Akron is not a Top 25 team. Miami OH is not a Top 25 team. Could they be? Sure. Neither resume warrants such a label, though.

What’s interesting is that we just came off of our best regular season ever, and probably played a strong OOC comparatively speaking, but getting no love in the polls. Why were we ranked the year of the Abreu debacle but not now?

We had the longest win streak in the nation at the time if I recall correctly. We had a win over a MTSU team that finished the season 28-6 and a P5 win against Penn State (although they admittedly were terrible). I think what held us back is we had no top 100 wins. Had we beaten Yale or Miami we would probably be getting more love.

I saw on a "Tournament Resume" graphic yesterday that our highest NET win was against Toledo, which really surprised me because I didn't realize they had moved ahead of Kent and BG in the NET. But either way, we're definitely lacking a "big" win.
