That was a rough one to watch…Western 55 Zips 48

Had a nice run to start the 4th and had our chances but very poor execution down the stretch. Interesting note: Western down 4 key players due to injury so had to go to the volleyball team for a body similar to us last year.

Hopefully that nice run in the 4th can accelerate a fast start tomorrow. Tomorrow is a must win and I’ve got a good feeling.

You've got a good feeling about our playing Miami, who are 11-4 and on a 4-game win streak?  Am I missing something?

I talk to myself a lot and am an optimist in life, but even I’m not talking myself into a win today. Sounds like Fairlawn Franks been spending a little too much time at….Franks.

Today's matchup is of interest as it matches up two programs that are in the third year of a new coach. Former Zips assistant coach Box seems to have turned things around after talking over a really bad situation at Miami. The jury is still out on Gensler's tenure. 🤔

Too bad the 2nd quarter was maybe the worst in the Gensler era. My good feeling was short lived.

 

Talked to Portage Lakes Paul and Wadsworth Wally and they aren’t happy either.

Zips trail 38-23 at half. Were outscored 18-2 in 2Q. 😳

Zips lose 82-68 at UMass, ironically to another 3rd year coach who has turned his program around. Zips are now 10-31 in the MAC under Gensler. Just saying it can be done a lot better.

Any idea when Gensler's contract runs through? He was a Guthrie hire, so Goodrich may be OK moving on soon if the program keeps moving in the wrong direction.

One more season after this one and there's no way the school is going to expend the money to pay 2 women's hoops coaches.

You are right that we don't need to pay two coaches. Our reality is that this program is in the dumper. I can tolerate losing if they are playing good basketball, but perhaps facing better talent. The talent will come if they play good fundamental bball. That is not the case. They are so difficult to watch. It's painful. Gensler is by all accounts a very good guy, but in athletics you are judged on performance and that is not there.

There's a coach with proven ability to recruit in Northeast Ohio that has her squad in 2nd place in the Horizon League currently. Think we could ever get someone like that to come to Akron and bring us a MAC Player of the Year and trips to Cleveland?

Man, that Guthrie guy was so much more than just a gifted Graphic Designer.

 

Anyone else wish we had Mahoning Valley Mel back? She won 12 games last year, and sits at 13-5 with the Penguins this season.
