Game 21- Toledo

The Toledo Rockets come to the JAR Tuesday night to face the Zips.  The Rockets are 10-9 going into Saturday’s rivalry game against Bowling Green.

 

6’1” junior guard Sonny Wilson leads the Rockets at 17.4 ppg.  6’1” freshman guard Leroy Blyden, Jr. scores 15.4 ppg.  6’7” senior forward Sean Craig scores 12.8 ppg while leading the team in rebounding at 7.9 rpg.

Really sucks this game ended up the same week as Kent. I’m sure a lot of people will choose Kent over this that don’t want to go to both. Roo blue night usually does pretty well and people know Toledo is usually good. We got hosed for home games this year by the conference scheduling

I'm hoping tomorrow night is just far enough out from the snow storm that people will be able to get there with little issue. But it will be interesting to see how many show up.

I was planning on bringing a group of 12 but had to do the 'adult' thing & cancel the outing.

But still planning on bringing the same group to the KSUcks game!!! 🤞🙏🤞🙏

I work remotely so I haven't had to leave the house today. My road, which is moderately busy, appears cleared. I imagine they will be working on the side streets today. It could still be a challenge for fans coming from more remote areas.

I'm coming from Franklin County where there is a level 3 snow advisory yesterday and today (no going out except for emergency). I hope the advisory is eased and NE Ohio is OK with its roads. Toledo is one team I love to hate. Right up there with OU, but not even close to the emotion Kent generates.

Got a brand new car so I’m excited to test it in the cold lol. Hoping for another fast start. Team should be feeling fresh after an extra day off cause of the Friday game. We will see.

It is amazing how poor our all-time (42-33 UT leads) and recent records are against Toledo despite our being the dominant program in the conference.

 

It is equally amazing how UT has had good programs and dominated us through history yet has not appeared in the NCAA Tournament since 1980. Baffling!

 

Just when I start feeling sorry for the UT fans in the context of basketball, I realize there is a football side of the coin, and the pity disappears quickly.

Toledo has been a good regular season team for much of TK tenure. Only the last 2 years or so have they regressed. Toledo's bigger problem is they have consistently underachieved in March.

We are Kowalchoke's regular season Super Bowl. The only numbers that matter for Toledo are 1 9 8 0.

As others have said, this is a trap game against an opponent we do not usually fare well against. Still, we are at home against a MAC opponent with inferior talent into the mature part of our schedule.

 

Zips win, 90-80, pulling away at the end.

Yes, i was coming from Stark County and just got to Akron. Pretty sure I drove through it around the CAK airport.
