Call me crazy, but I think UMass beats Miami in round one. Miami hasn't looked the same since Skaljac got hurt, and I don't think there's enough time for him to get even close to 100%. In his two games after missing the WMU game, Skaljac scored 18 points on 6/14 shooting, but was 1-8 from deep and had a negative +/- in both games. Tonight, Perry played a lot down the stretch while Skaljac sat.

The MAC could not have drawn it up any better. The best QF round ever matchup wise. I think the upper deck could get opened up for this tournament.

Not a directional to be seen.

I really like how this has worked out with the Zips coming into the MAC tournament as the hunter and Miami coming in as the hunted.

the hated.

The Miami guys yelling F bombs at the Ohio crowd at the end was a particularly nice touch.

Good for the Ohio students for raining hellfire on them with whatever they could throw.

Fantastic job of showing even though spring break had just started as well.

My predictions:

UMass over Miami

Toledo over BGSU

Akron over Buffalo

Kent State over OU

Toledo over UMass

Akron over Kent

Akron over Toledo

Miami over UMass

Toledo over BGSU

Akron over Buffalo

Kent over OU

Toledo over Miami

Akron over Kent

Akron over Toledo

Toledo is actually peaking in March, which is a first in many decades.

The TNT pre-game show just had Travis on.  Bruce Pearl tuned into an apologetic kitten and they proceeded to kiss Travis's a** for 10 minutes.  Travis actually made a nice appearance and said nice things about the Zips and Groce.

Sounds about right for Bruce Pearl.

The mainstream sports media still begs to differ. I will side with the professional oddsmakers.

Main stream media probably hasn't watched a MAC game that Miami didn't play in.

I am still a bit nervous about Miami TBH. Particularly when they have Atlason on the floor. Akron likes to trap frequently on defense, but Miami moves the ball around well and can field a lineup of 5 terrific 5 point shooters to make us pay.

Personally, I feel we should trap less and play more man to man defense. They don't have any post player that commands a double team against our smaller front court. What's important is being able to run them off the 3 and limit them to contested 2s.

You are right. If they have that many good 5 point shooters we are in deep trouble. 😉

That's shown in the stats.  They have 7 guys that average double digit points.  That demonstrates moving the ball and finding  the good open shot.

I think one of the keys is Evan shutting down Suter.  Suter is no longer their biggest threat but he's the gu that gets it all going.  Shutting him down would be a big advantage.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say the Zips will be preparing for Buffalo’s press. Also remember how that game ended…a bit chilly between the coaches.

Chilly?  Groce was pissed.  I sit behind the opposing bench and there coach was yelling to his players we are going to keep playing hard and pressing in the last minute of the game when down by a dozen.  And then their star went down with a concussion.
