Any Update/Feedback on Today's Scrimmage?

I am not arguing with you, but this is what I was able to turn up:

2020: Old Dominion canceled its season due to Covid.

2021: ODU Redshirt (freshman) year

2022: Albany Season 1 used

2023: Albany Season 2 used

2024: Miami Season 3 used

2025: North Texas medical waiver obtained (kind of like redshirting)

2026: Akron Season 4 to be used

 

Did he not obtain a medical waiver at UNT? Otherwise, it seems he is eligible. Does anyone have any inside information that alters this?

No stats until 2024 - you'd have to think 2021 was a redshirt, and then 2022 or 2023 a medical redshirt? Or at least that was the plan? Did we get this far without obtaining a medical redshirt? Wtf?

I hope he gets the medical.  From what I have been told it does not look good for the appeal and they have been working on it.  I was also told he did not take any reps in either scrimmage to prepare for the worst.  

 

I hope it is him can't beat his experience, I'm just going off of what I was told and thats why I am predicting it will be CB....

 

I do hope I am wrong.  Crazy to see guys leaving the NFL two weeks into preseason to return to college football and think this guy may not be able to play.

 

I just read how Sellers only requirement is to be an intern at a golf range for the first semester... If I remember correctly Carson Beck admitted to not having to go to any classes before the national championship either...

I read a pretty good article about him talking about how he was literally on his way to Miami U, with his girlfriend believing he was going to be the starter and on the drive there the coach called him and told him that Cam Ward had decided to return instead of entering the draft.  That had to suck...  Then he goes to North Texas because it was referred to him by Cam Ward because of some connection with one of the coaches and then the freshman stud goes there and beats him out.

 

I don't think you can claim medical just because you didn't play.  From Google: "Yes, a Division 1 football player can request a medical hardship waiver after the season concludes, provided the injury occurred before the midpoint of the season and they competed in 30% or fewer of the team's regular-season games." But in none of the articles that I read did it ever mention anything about any injuries basically they were all more of just unfortunate circumstances.  

 

If he doesn't get another year then he really got screwed out of a college career.  

 

I didn't see anything about a medical redshirt at North Texas just that he was beat out...

2021 (Old Dominion): Did not play. (Redshirt Year)

2022 (Albany): Played full season. (Season 1 of competition used)

2023 (Albany): Played full season. (Season 2 of competition used)

2024 & 2025 Combined (Miami & UNT): Because he redshirted early in his career, he could not register a second "redshirt year." Instead, the NCAA simply tracks his four active seasons of competition. Because his on-field game appearances across 2024 and 2025 did not exceed the threshold of an individual active season, they collectively count as just Season 3 of his competition allotment.

2026 (Akron): This serves as Season 4 of his on-field competition, landing precisely in the fifth year of his calendar clock (2021–2026).

if a division one football player red shirts in 2021, plays in 2022 and 2023 and then does not play very much in 2024 and 2025 does he have any eligibility left?

 

No, his five-year eligibility clock expires at the end of the 2025–26 academic year, leaving him with no remaining eligibility for the 2026 season. [1]

Eligibility Breakdown

The 5-Year Clock: Under traditional NCAA Division I rules, your five-year window starts the moment you first enroll full-time in college. For a player who started in Fall 2021, the clock runs continuously through Spring 2026. [1, 2]

Seasons Used:

2021: Redshirt year (does not count as a season played).

2022 & 2023: Two full seasons played.

2024 & 2025: Even if he played in four or fewer games each year to preserve potential redshirt status, those years still tick away inside his 5-year calendar window

 

Expiration: Because Fall 2026 falls into the sixth academic year since his initial enrollment, his time has run out

 

This is what I got.....  I hope I am wrong.  I would think the coaches know more and get paid a whole lot more than I do so they would get this right.  I am only going off of what I was told...

Not sure this logic makes any sense. So if a kid never sees the field, in theory he could just keep “playing” for seven, eight, nine years?

What is really crazy is how some guys apparently are allowed to go back to college after playing in the preseason but others are not? I guess it depends on the lawsuit that they are apart of.  The 16 filed in louisiana are good to go which to me is no shocker !!!

I, too, hope you are wrong! But more to the point, how is it that nobody sleuthed this all the way through from the get-go? It seems like such an obvious thing to double- and triple-check.
