  1. Past hour
  2. UMass wasn't good defensively. Perimeter defenders were often beat off the dribble and out of position, which led to many fouls. They were both a bad perimeter shooting team and they weren't a good defensive team. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive. You can still win with bad shooting. Bennett was very successful at Virginia doing just that. You just have to make up for it with defense, which UMass couldn't do. Either way they spent the most amount (by a sizable sum) and came away with an 8th place regular season to show for it. I know some here think Frank is a great coach, but I think even they have to concede last year was a huge failure for UMass. If UMass finishes 5-10 in the MAC standings next season I think Frank is out of a job.

  4. If they had better shooters, I would totally agree. However, I think the physicality was their way of attempting to win ugly because they knew they didn't have the shooters.
  5. Very true, I guess I should have said, ONE of their biggest issues.
  6. Shot-making and scoring points are very important. Those issues have plagued MAC teams outside the top 4 seeds.
  7. Their biggest issue was shot making. 46.9% FG and 34.6% 3P isn't going to get it done. They blow Miami OH out in Cleveland if they shoot better than 3-15 from 3P.
  8. Regarding UMass, their biggest issue is/was they are fouling machines. If they simply cut down on that, their win total likely goes up quite a bit.
  9. I talked to a coach about him. He said the player was brought in for depth and development. This staff does an impressive job in mining and growing under-developed players. Another interesting part of the discussion was that the staff rates itself on the performance of the players they bring in. Regarding JUCO's they have a hit rate of about 50%, but on high school players they are near 90%, especially in O linemen. The obvious problem is that we are developing high school players for other programs with money. It is what it is until Congress changes things.
  10. I doubt it. He has impressive size and length, but his HS film isn’t anything special. Nor is the fact he hasn’t seen a single snap on defense or special teams during his time at WKU. I hope he proves me wrong, but this feels like more of a depth addition.
  11. That might have been turgent and busty. But just a guess. 😉
  12. He appears to have not appeared in any games during his two years at WKU. Do we expect much contribution from him?
  13. Anyone who was able to attend have any thoughts?
  14. I checked in to see how our three most recent Zips have been doing. After starting just one of the first four matches for Crown Legacy, Ashton has started the last four matches in a row. Austin FC 2 have only played 6 matches so far and Stefan has appeared in all 6 matches including 4 starts. One assist. Mitch Budler has not appeared yet for Pittsburgh but has been on the bench for 7 of the past 8 matches.

  17. Zips Baseball sweeps OU in Athens to improve to 20-24 and 10-14 in the MAC. Both are the highest winning percentages since the program returned. Baby steps in the right direction? The downside is they have 9 conference games left against three very good programs (Kent, CMU, and Miami).
  18. Oh my, photos of the scrimmage for opponents to scour for intel!
  19. Not sure if this is known already or not.
  20. per Gemini.. The official nickname for the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass) women’s sports teams is the Minutewomen. While the men's teams are known as the Minutemen, the university uses the gender-specific version for its women's programs. Both share Sam the Minuteman as the official mascot and wear the school colors of maroon and white. A Brief History The transition to these names didn't happen until the early 1970s. Here is a quick look at the evolution of the UMass identity: Aggies & Statesmen: In the early 20th century, the school (then Massachusetts Agricultural College) was often referred to by these names. Redmen: From 1948 until 1972, the teams were known as the Redmen. Minutemen/Minutewomen: In 1972, following concerns regarding the previous name's impact on Native American communities, the student body voted to change the nickname. The "Minutemen" was chosen for its deep historical ties to the American Revolution and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As women's sports programs grew on campus during that same decade, they naturally adopted the title "Minutewomen."
  21. Many people described @Hilltopper as an “urgent and bursty” pass rusher back in the day?
  22. Cj Nunnally signing with Falcons....
  23. Falcons got Two Zips...
  24. Malcom signed with the Falcons...
  25. What I've read online is schools only receive ~2%-~10% of the purchase price. If the goal is to support the program it's probably just best giving them a $10, $20, or whatever donation via day of giving link. It only makes sense to purchase from BSN store if you see items that you really want.
  26. Dewalt signed undraftee with Atlanta....

  28. Wasn’t there, but there’s a number of plays posted on the zipsathletics instagram page. Gant seems to look good still. Looks like 3/4 QBs made some plays worth sharing,
