I watched 7 quarters of football last weekend with the Zips and the Browns and saw zero touchdowns by my teams. (I did not watch all of the 4th quarter but left early with my adult son and went golfing at Good Park.) I like watching football but it is difficult to watch when your offense cannot score a touchdown until the game is out of reach. (Also, both teams committed stupid penalties on punts that led to the opponent keeping possession of the ball.)

JMU appears to have only one returner of any consequence, Eddie Ricks, a 6'7" junior forward who averaged 6.7 ppg and 4.7 rpg last season. This type of situation makes me realize how blessed we are to have a program that can hold onto kids from season to season.

I mean ESPN2 or U. I'd be shocked if we weren't on ESPN+. Especially cause both conferences have deals with ESPN
-
I'm still in 1 but I like the cover in the bad weather.
-
They certainly have some experienced guard depth.
-
Do you mean ESPN or ESPN+? I don't see any viewing options listed for any of our games yet.
-
Really wish ESPN could pick up this game for tv but having it on opening night makes that near impossible

Your point is not wrong. But - NIU only cares about the football, and they're going to a better league (even after the changes). And their average road trip in-conference in all the other sports drops from 419 miles to 330 miles. The longest in-league road trip drops from 978 to Amherst to 516 for Robert Morris. It's not huge - this is admittedly no $10,000,000 savings, but with all the other sports, it's going to be a greater savings than the cost for extra travel in the MWC. It will be interesting to see how attendance changes for all their sports...it's possible they also see a little bump in basketball (in addition to the likely notable football attendance bump) because the team will have a better record (as noted, the Horizon League's bottom is definitely scraping the bottom of the barrel). It's not a life-changing travel savings, but it more makes up for the MWC football travel when aggregated across the other 12 sports.

This is such a good opening game. JMU brings a solid G5 brand into an arena that lacks opponents with solid brands. I really hope UA marketing is getting the word out that this game is just a few weeks away. We need a solid 4k+ crowd. We match up well with them. We're bigger, but they're going to be a handful athletically. Our guards need to take care of the ball and we need to make our shots. Do that, and we'll be 1-0 with a nice early-season resume building win.

The Horizon League is basically the TEMU version of the MAC. They avoid potential trips to Buffalo and UMass, but the rest of their time will be spent in Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania - AKA The MAC. We will see how much money they end up making with whatever deal the new Mountain West gets. I highly highly highly doubt it's significantly more than the MAC's next deal at this point, and their travel is going to be insane. That conference is coast to coast with little to no name recognition. All they had to do was try to be competitive in basketball and they would've had some rivalries. Their negligence was their downfall. My imagination must stretch beyond your comprehension, because it's still a dumb move.

Thanks Clark. They seem like a team with a high ceiling that will probably peak later in the season once players gain chemistry and rotations are sorted out. Glad we got them game 1.

I got my parking pass in the mail today, I got lot 8 which is an upgrade for me! No longer stuck in lot 1!

2025 Rankings and RPI thread
Zips1991 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Akron and Seton Hall are both in the receiving votes section of this week's coaches poll... Akron at #27, Seton Hall at #29. https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/rankings/college-rankings/ncaa-di-men/ -
They don't really have any natural rivals of any sort, and they're going to likely get more money (and less travel in the Horizon League) with overall increased attendance (likely no real change in other sports, and no Tuesday games for football). It just wasn't a dumb decision by any stretch of the imagination.
-
They can have, though, fun playing at Hawaii's new stadium at 2am in football and battling with Doug Gottlieb for last place in Horizon League basketball. What a dumb decision. Good riddance.

We're special. Can't do it here.

I'm sure they'll have fun -
Gotta admit I'm rooting for the Mariners but it was nice to see Bassitt have a good outing tonight.

James Madison comes into the 2025-26 season after posting a 20-12 record last season with a loss in the Sun Belt Final to Troy. From looking at their roster, they have a ton of new faces. Included in these transfers are the following: · Paul Jones, a 6’4” sophomore guard who averaged 7.6 ppg and 3 rpg last year at Winthrop where he was named to the Big South Conference. · Bradley Douglas, a 6’4” senior guard transfer from Geogia Southern where he averaged 12.6 ppg, 2.3 rpg and 2.2 apg. He’s on his 5th school in 5 years. · Cliff Davis- 6’2” senior guard transfer from Rio Grande where he averaged 12.1 ppg and 4.5 rpg. · Paul Lewis, a 6’2” guard who started at Vanderbilt then transferred to UTSA where he missed nearly all of last season due to injury. · Justin McBride, a 6’7 junior forward transfer from Nevada (Previously Okla. St.) where he averaged 7.8 ppg and 4/1 rpg. · Ike Cornish, a 6’6” senior guard transfer from Nicholls who averaged 7.7. ppg and 2.2 rpg. He started in Maryland and spent a season at Ohio U. · Eli Wilborn, a 6’8” junior forward who was a teammate of Barre at Duquesne where he averaged 5 ppg and 3.5 rpg last year. · Gabe Newhof, a 6’9” senior forward who was an NAIA All-American at Spring Arbor last season, averaging 21.5 ppg and 7.2 rpg. From looking at the roster JMU appears deep and experienced and will again be towards the top of the Sun Belt standings. They’ll also likely still be in transition mode with so many new faces. I'll keep updating as more info and previews become available.
