Minor League baseball isn't much more appealing. Knowing the product isn't elite makes creating a memorable experience all that much more important. Prior to the Wyoming game, they had the area youth football teams behind the endzone that Wyoming was warming up in. The Wyoming players were high fiving and interacting with the kids the entire warmup. The kids were LOVING it and will remember that for a very long time. Focusing on what's controllable and making memorable experiences for fans - especially kids/families - isn't very difficult. Instead, the University seemingly loves to cater to those already invested in the program(s). There isn't even a family ticket option. I bought a season ticket just to consolidate 4 other games into 5 tickets for Wyoming to make it more affordable for my family (I'm not sure that's a publicly promoted offering, either, but it saved $8 per ticket). We could make an entire thread of suggestions with ways they can make the games more appealing for people, especially families, regardless of the product on the field. The fact of the matter is, until the suits in charge start thinking outside the box and caring about more than just the donors' experience, Akron will continue to struggle with marketing.

One can contribute in the football forum out of overall love for UA, recognizing the damage that keeping the status quo in football is doing to the university and every other institution in the MAC and G6.

I do wonder what his eligibility will be cause its weird with euro players. -
On a side note to lighten the mood... On X Zips Barstool predicted Zips by 30.. obvious sarcasm... The fire storm that it started is hilarious if you are looking for some good entertainment.

Folks like you can go to hell. I will NEVER give up on my alma mater. It will be yo ass ready to come back outside when the suns out (winning) Folks like you are the worst. Do us a favor and go kiss ass on one of Ohio State's forums.

Yeh they couldn't compete all the way from irrelevancy to now in the Big 12 conference starting next season. Like i said in the accolades I provided earlier. Thats competing. Yeah they lost against Penn State. So what? The same Penn State who has only won 2 national championships which were back in the 80's You should be applauding any Mid Major able to have a run to the playoffs like Boise State had Your logic is inconsistent bullsh!t.
-
Yup. We couldn't even score a single point against the powerhouse of Wyoming.
-
Because I love my Alma Mater. I'm a diehard for my alma mater, despite having degrees from two other universities (one incorporated into my name) that I could easily get more joy from following. Akron was my home for a decade+. But at some point you have to call out the bullshit. If we actually give-a-damn about something, at some point we have to call a spade a spade. The Football Program IS NOT GOOD for the University of Akron, it hasn't been a good investment, it will never be a good investment, and we're kidding ourselves. It's time to stop pretending it's ever going to be anything other than a joke.
-
They cannot compete, they got crushed by Penn State even with the bye, even with having the better seeding. I have moved ZERO goalposts, I have been completely consistent with the fact that their program is not solvent (because it isn't) and that they receive "revenue" from the University general budget and student fees (which is a fact). No, I'm the canary in the coalmine saying enough of this eff'n bullshit. Enough is enough. The absolute eff'n joke is the people defending this absolute waste of money on a program that will never be competitive; and even if it were to become like Boise State (which it won't) it will still be a financial drain on the University. You are intellectually dishonest. You live in a delusional world, and you're part of the problem of why this runaway train has gotten so out of control. Alumni like you are part of the problem. Our University is in a terrible financial situation because of moronic takes like these.
-
Then why are you here genius You clearly don't know my history on here of calling out the football program.
-
Dude I was done with the Football program when they fired Terry Bowden. Bowden was a Nationally Recognized Name, and you fired him the same year you beat your only Big-10 team in history, a year removed from a MACC appearance for a no-name coach from John Carroll. Paying them both at the same time. Please stop defending this BS.
-
1st you said boise state are a joke and can't compete then you continue to move the goalpost claiming their are barely making ends meet when in fact they are one of the top valued programs in the country. You are an absolute joke and embarrassment to UA You are the prime example of the certified idiots running UA Football who need to go. Stubborn asshole

And Youngsown State does not run a profit. It subsidizes it with $13-million. SIZE is not how profitable it is. No YSU is not an example of "thriving". Talk to anyone who actually goes there, or works there, and they'll tell you about the absolutely disastrous financial situation that university is in.

I literally have backed up every single thing I've said. I already posted it for you, which you clearly didn't read because you decided to go on a cherry-picking expedition. "Student Fees" and "School Funds" are subsidies. They are not being generated BY the football team, and are being generated to cover expenses. Guess which schools don't have those? The only ones actually turning a profit.

When Morehead gets the boot please take your illiterate ass with him down by the river.

No one will ever touch Ohio State but mid majors in Ohio can still thrive
-
Part of the issue is that it's challenging to market a sh** product. Nobody wants to watch 3 1/2 hours of bad football regardless of what free giveaways or extra amenities are added.
-
No it's more like I'm not going to accept someone pissing on my shoes on something that's blatantly not true. If Boise State Football is generating so much of a profit, than why is the University subsiding, and student fees supporting it? That's. What. You. Call. Bullshit. They count that stuff as revenue. It's a subsidy. That's bullshit and you and I both know it. You're participating in propagating the bullshit.

I've said before that athletics is just a marketing arm for schools. Boise State enrollment has grown from 16k to 26k in the last 25 years, which lines up with the time that their football has become relevant. They have grown much more rapidly than other in state public Universities in Idaho. In large part because their football and basketball programs provide an improved college experience relative to their competition. Boise State is one of the few G5s that has been getting a return on their investments when it comes to what they spend on athletics. The $15 million the University spends on subsidizing athletics is a drop in the bucket compared to the revenue they're receiving from having 10k additional students paying tuition. Not to mention donations they receive by keeping their growing alumni base engaged. All of that said, Boise State is unique. They have no real in state competition. Trying to replicate what they have achieved is near impossible since everyone, including Cincinnati, lives in OSU shadows.
-
In what world do you think Akron football is subsidized anywhere close to that figure? Total athletics, maybe. But the football budget doesn’t even come close to that
-
This. Akron being so bad at marketing/fan engagement has never made sense to me. They have one of the top marketing franchises in all of minor league baseball 2 minutes down the road. Figure it out.
-
Im pretty good at referencing facts to back my sh!t up You should try that some time. Homer
-
Yeh you are really stupid If Boise State was broke they definitely wouldn't have left the Mountain West for the Pack 12 You said name a successful mid major and I gave you one. You are clearly too stubborn to accept the L Boise State college football program valued at $91 million
