Elite 8 - Zips host Saint Louis
TennZip replied to Zips1991's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
late night drama seems likely??? Did the writer not notice that the game will start at 1 pm? https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/article/?categoryId=0&articleId=55436&articleTitle=mens-ncaa-tournament-elite-eight-preview No. 4 Akron (13-4-3) vs. No. 5 Saint Louis (12-2-8) - Saturday, December 6th, 1 PM Eastern Akron may be at home against a Saint Louis squad they beat 3-0 in the regular season, but the Zips remain wary. The Billikens, after all, are the toughest out in the country, surviving overtime, upsetting Indiana, and most recently advancing on penalties in the Sweet Sixteen. With 18 of their 22 games decided by a goal or less, another late-night drama seems likely. -
He wasn't the AD's or President's first choice for the job. They wanted someone more mature guide the program but that person turned down the job. I'm not talking about Jim Grobe either.

The MAC West needs to be challenging for CFB Playoff spots to justice their membership in the MAC with how bad their basketball is (EMU looks halfway decent). Balls is one of the worst teams in the country and NIU isn't much better. I'm surprised more MAC West schools haven't look to separate their basketball and football programs like NIU is doing, actually. Balls, CMU, EMU, WMU would be perfect for the Horizon League.
-
If only they could take the rest of the formerly MAC West schools with them. If you look at the 6 MAC East schools we're pretty much on par with the Atlantic 10 this season. Granted sample size is still small.
-
I'm Happy all these analytic charts use the Z. AD Goodrich, you need to put your stamp on the programs without spending a bunch of money. I think I know a waaaay.
-
NIU lost by 35. To Lindenwood. The Horizon is going to love them.
-
If this is true I'm mad we didn't play them this year. Would have made us bowl eligible. 🤣
-
They can't leave the conference soon enough.
-
Well those numbers are also from 2020 so they wouldn't reflect revenue from the new B1G TV deal signed in 2022, which increased TV revenue ~150% for the conference, nor revenue from the expanded playoffs. The TV revenue alone for the conference went from $440 million to north of $1 billion annually. That adds 10s of millions of more revenue per school. They could very easily be at a profit now considering they were near breakeven before. Even if they're still losing $4 million, it's still well worth the cost given the marketing athletics provides them. They couldn't buy the publicity they receive at that cost. I'd say they're still spending responsibly. It's the programs like JMU, Florida State, Rutgers, etc that make you scratch your head wondering WTF are they even doing. Purdue I suppose would be another example that I didn't think of before about being responsible, but jumped out when looking at what you shared. Edit: According this this article Iowa athletics is self sufficient. It did borrow $50 million from the University during the covid year, but has been repaying that loan. https://www.thegazette.com/article/hawkeye-athletics-sets-another-revenue-record-while-isu-uni-struggle/

Bad day for this to happen as tomorrow is signing day. I'm still seeing recruits tweeting that they'll be signing with OU tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Sorry I posted the wrong link and now can’t find the correct link.

That link says nothing about it?

NIU is in mid-season form, down by 20 at the half to Lindenwood.

Ohio to vacate 7 wins. https://x.com/petenakos/status/1995690540848087496?s=61
-
Tulane is tied with grambling 6-6 over 8 mins into the game. What a blazing start
-
According to this, Iowa's athletics lose money.
-
At the P4 level it's driven by delusions of grandeur by ADs and University presidents. Not everyone can be an Alabama or OSU. I imagine it's programs like Iowa who understand this that are doing well financially.
-
The only reason these numbers are being reported is because it involves Deion. All but ~10-15 programs are subsidized by other avenues of revenue.

Financially they escaped the deal without eating too much money. I thought it was a dumb firing when it happened. It would have only made sense if they had an Urban Meyer or Nick Saban lined up to take the job. Virginia Tech was the real winners there.
-
I assume not anymore with BYU’s coach getting paid. The PSU situation is a disaster (which I personally enjoy). Ohio’s coaching situation is looking pretty juicy as well…curious what’s going on there.
-
It doesn't help they have the highest paid coach in the Big 12 despite him only having a 16-21 record...

100%. Im still waiting on the day ESPN reports on the declining graduation rate from all the transferring and acts like no one saw this coming.
