  1. Past hour
  2. I'm just going to assume Groce is gone until we are told otherwise. I think he's a perfect fit for Akron and the MAC, but wouldn't blame him if he moved on to a program with more money, better facilities and more prestigious conference. He may have hit his ceiling with the Zips. Not his fault, ours. I'm assuming the fact that nobody wants Travis Steele proves that he's a fraud?
  3. What cow tipping? But seriously yes, I agree you still have to put a product on the field that is worth someone committing ~5 hours of their day or more. I just feel that threshold is much less in rural places like WV than it is in places like Cleveland, Buffalo, Detroit etc.
  4. I'm still concerned about ripple effects from UNC. Like he's obviously not getting the UNC job, but it could open another downstream opening that could be appealing.
  5. I stand corrected. They do have the handful of midweek games, more Thursdays but yes, they do. If those schools don't give the people a reason to come on Saturday, they'll still find something else to do even if they don't have an NFL game on Sunday. So I don't think that holds much water.
  6. A couple things. The Sun Belt still plays some midweek games. Not as many as the MAC, but they still get played. Also, the Sun Belt has much less competition, particularly in sports, compared to the Midwest schools in the MAC. The reality is if Richard in Richfield has the option of either going to the Browns game on Sunday or Akron game on Saturday, he's going to the Browns. Most people don't have the ability to commit an entire weekend to make an all day event out of both. Schools like Marshall, Troy, Arkansas State etc don't face those same challenges.
  7. But...but Samarai Hoops posted a Jack Nicholson gif?!
  8. Today
  9. Need to accept USF is the destination and what's left of the roster is going with him. This literally is the meaning of "silence is deafening." There's always football!
  10. I do think it's clear he has interest in jobs elsewhere. How much interest is uncertain, though.
  11. Maybe, but not a huge one given what he has built here. I don't think anything is clear.
  12. If he's truly interested in USF, to me that's disappointing because it signals he just truly wants out. I thought it would be a "perfect job" kind of scenario to pry JG away. That said, it's not like Jon Rothstein or Schefter are reporting this. We're looking at Samurai Hoops and "Higgins Halal" twitter accounts.
  13. It's a better job then Akron. Whether it's marginally better or clearly a step up is to be debated. I still think Claymann makes the most sense there as Groce has never coached outside the midwest and from a recruiting stand point he recruits Cincinnati and Cleveland fairly heavily. Not sure if he has the same connections in Florida or how he would do if fully reliant on the portal.
  14. This may prove to be true, but Hubie being let go was kind of obvious and expected. I'm not sure that in itself proves validity.
  15. Yes. Florida, Miami market, etc. They just hired away Alabama's WBB coach.
  16. Is USF a significant step up from Akron? I'll be surprised and disappointed if that happens.
  17. Buckle up for the craziest coaching carousel in the history of coaching carousels. Rumor is Bill Self will be retiring. UNC and Kansas will be open in the same offseason, and it potentially doesn't end there.
  18. This guy is either off his rocker and crap sticks to the wall or we're about to have the craziest coaching carousel ever.
  19. Absolutely did not see Groce to USF being in the cards. Wow.
  20. One year of eligibility remaining. Collected 27 total tackles and 4 sacks last year at the DII level.
  21. Not Groce related, but that account had Hubie Davis out 4 days ago. Maybe lucky, maybe onto something. We'll probably find out tomorrow.
