AD reported on X that they are confident they can get $75M-$100M in donations to help fund. Even so that would leave ~$170M-$200M that they will have to finance. That's going to make our debt servicing on Infocision appear awfully small in comparison. -

Miami OH's Board of Trustees approved the project. -
When we shoot the ball well from 3 we are unbeatable in the MAC. We just have too much talent and athleticism and wear teams down. We saw that in the 2nd half against Buffalo. However, when we do not shoot the ball well from 3 we have enough talent to stay with the competition but it will be a close game. Really hoping we get hot from 3 and send the Kent fans home early tonight.

When we were an Adidas school before the basketball team still had LeBron's. I wouldn't see why that would be an issue now if Groce sees value in keeping the brand connected to the basketball team.

I hope this isn't a case of an AD changing to change so they can add something to their resume (Ex: Guthrie with the rebrand). I'm assuming how they value us relates to our contract amount. If it is a significant difference and the increase in money can be spent on the roster, then sure, let's change. But if it's close or something else not relevant, I hope he reconsiders. Nike is the premier basketball shoe provider. Jordan's, LeBron's, Kobe's, Sabrina's and even Ja's are very popular with young players. Having even a small connection to the greatest basketball player of all-time and being one of only a handful of schools to receive and wear his shoes isn't nothing either.

Evan is absolutely the obvious key, same with Amani. If we can somehow limit their front court, I don't think their backcourt is capable of carrying the load. Too inconsistent and their decision making is usually Kent (crap). My darkhorse tonight is Sharron Young. He is a pest defensively and has the ability to go off on any night offensively. Look for tonight to be that night. Ultimately, we simply need to make our shots no matter who is shooting the ball. If we do that, Kent won't be able to sniff being in this game. Go Zips.

The spread was 15.5 or 16.5 depending on when you got it, so we definitely went from covering to not covering with all of the turnovers at the end. It could appear suspicious if you look at it that way, but I think if you were fixing a game, you wouldn't wait until the end and depend on the other team pressing you.
-
I’ll admit with the current state of gambling I automatically think of the point spread when I see an ending like that. Does anyone know if we covered before and after the press. Not saying anything just wondering 🤔

https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2026/02/25/miami-ohio-new-arena-basketball-ncaa-tournament.html?utm_source=sy&utm_medium=ptr&utm_campaign=local12 The arena will provide the basketball and volleyball programs with the resources needed to compete as consistent NCAA Tournament teams. It will also be a vibrant gathering place that brings people together, hosts events and builds a strong sense of community. The design will strengthen the connection between students and athletics by creating the best student section in America. I'm hoping you are right. I have a feeling that Evan is key tonight.

Just a quick update on our signees. RJ Jones, playing at Cle St Ignacius is averaging 17,5 ppg and 6.3 RB. Jashawn Ladd plays for Ben Davis HS in Indianapolis and is averaging 14.7 ppg, and 3 RB, and Devan Christian at Clark HS in Las Vegas is averaging 20.4 ppg and 10 boards.

Yes the bookstore deal whatever it is is horrible. Literally every other college bookstore I have been to is better than ours. Butler which has an enrollment of 5000 has a store that blows ours out of the water

I don't disagree, but there are so many external factors preventing that type of logic from coming to fruition. It's going to take an adult in the room with real world experience to step in and be the voice of reason.

Nothing is preventing these players from unionizing and forming a players union. In fact, it would be a huge positive to the game as it would open the door to collective bargaining.
-
My better half asked if I wanted to go to the game, but I let her know I didn't want to be surrounded by the stench and filth. You're a braver man than me.

Baseball and hockey have Players Association approved agents to my knowledge. The NCAA is a free for all.

I just bought my ticket for the Kent game on stubhub. I just printed the ticket and I will be sitting with the Kent fans since it is a season holder ticket. I did the same thing about 5 years ago wearing my Akron hat and a Kent season ticket holder told me I was sitting in the wrong section. I told him I was in the right seat. He yelled for the usher to check my ticket. A young college student usher came over and meekly stated he did not want to do this but asked to see my ticket. I showed him my ticket and the usher thanked me. I then suggested that he check the ticket of the guy who complained and we both laughed. Looking forward to tonights game.

excellent commentary!

We haven't really struggled with the press this year until that Buffalo game, and I think the biggest factor was our 25 pt lead. We got complacent and lazy due to comfortability. I don't foresee an unathletic Kent press giving Akron many troubles should they choose to do so. In fact, I think if Kent presses for any lengthy period this game, Akron wins by double digits fairly easily due to all the easy points that will come from the 3 on 2s and 2 on 1s.
-
My Kent friend despises him it’s always hilarious seeing him react to Magnus with the ball
-
I'll be interested to see if Kent tries to use the press early seeing how badly we struggled with it against UB.
-
Game day! This game is always a dog fight. Because Pccc mucks it up. I imagine both teams shoot better. Last game Gillespie and Lyles were no factors due to constant foul trouble. I think that goes in our favor as if the refs swallow the whistle that hurts us. With Whaley back we have to push the ball and create turnovers. Between Scott, young, Hardman and Johnson we need someone to go 4-5 from three.

I've seen a lot of online pushback against losing the field where they want to put the new arena. I've never been to Miami's campus so I have no idea, but here is the essential back-and-forth: -
I'd be bummed to see us leave Nike, I absolutely love Nike gear and its quality. I'd rather them focus on getting out of whatever nonsensical Barnes and Noble contract they have that prevents them from selling a better selection of items than move away from Nike.

I watched it tonight on ESPN+ for about an hour and it did appear like the crowd was having a great time.
