Re: vs. Akron (1/9) Post by Falconfreak90 » Wed Jan 07, 2026 1:23 pm Akron has tormented us since about 2005. I think we are 5-37 in our last 42? For the love of Andy Anderson, just beat them. As always, they will be an excellent team.

Looking at BG's roster, they have two guys (Ruffin and Thomas) who played meaningful minutes including many starts at P5 schools (Colorado and Florida State) last year. Adding them to complement Campbell seems to have been crucial for BG so far, but I'm left wondering how did they get them? BG has had no success as of late and I haven't heard about them committing many NIL resources to basketball.

Yeah, I saw that Miami line and almost decided to re-download the DraftKings app 😆 I think Miami wins that game fairly easily. But I also said UMass would beat EMU easily a while back, so I clearly don't know anything.

Now -4.5. I would agree someone is going to have to step up bigly tonight. It's never too early to start preparing for 3DaysInMarch. You could even say the outcome of this game is less important than the growth process for 3DIM. Miami is favored by 1.5 at Toledo.

I still feel college football is a bit like MLB baseball. OSU, Georgia, Alabama can still buy themselves into the playoffs most years, but other P4 still have their windows of opportunity. I doubt Indiana will be here in 10 years. At that point Cignetti would be 74 and likely retired. Indiana still managed to maximize their window of opportunity by pairing a terrific coach with renewed booster interest. When Indiana's run fades perhaps an Illinois or Minnesota emerges in its place using that same footprint Indiana established.

And if things go horribly wrong, who will be Tyler Cheese?

I got my money on Shammah

Who is going to be the Gladden, Harney, or Gray tonight?

Professional cornhole and hobby horse competitions.

Has NIL and the transfer portal broken the monopoly in college football? Watching the playoffs and seeing OSU, Georgia and Alabama get removed from it by teams that 10 years ago were not in their same league makes me happy on some level. I was wrong about the rich getting richer in the NIL era in that there seems to be a limit as to how much you can buy. I was not wrong about the freedom of movement the TP offers leveling the playing field, I just didn't see what a huge influence it is. Players want to play because showcasing talent gets the biggest bag of all which is NFL money. Transferring is the best way to get on the field for high level talent. In the past, a team like Mississippi had close to the level of talent on their starting 22. Where they got destroyed was when they had to dip into their bench against an Alabama and there was a big drop off in talent. Before NIL, Alabama dipped into their bench on a miserably hot early September day in Tuscaloosa and pulled up another future NFL player. Today, that guy is playing on the starting team for their opponent.

It's all mostly just filler content lol. I'm more pointing out that they aren't going to plan their schedule around what would give MAC basketball the best ratings. They have a lot of other programing that is as equal or marginally better. The game would only attract 10s of thousands of fans (mostly degen gamblers) regardless when it's played. I understand not wanting to play during the semifinals that way you can watch both, but frankly someone has to.
-
I wonder who the rating drivers are for CBSSN. The only time I watch is when the MAC is on lol.

Akron opens as -3.5 point favorites with an O/U of 165.5

TK is a terrific regular season coach. I just don't think his finesse style of play leads itself to winning in March when the level of physicality gets ramped up. You need guys diving on the court for loose balls or fighting off 2 defenders for an offensive rebound. You see that kind of energy from Akron over the years and even Kent. It's no surprise those are two teams that you see consistently make it to the later rounds.
-
He hasn't been there 40 years
-
CBSSN already has other things for those time slots. They aren't going to run infomercials all weekend during football games. They have to air something. Like I said before the MAC games are just filler content. They aren't ratings drivers. Never have been.

Canada MNT's January 2026 roster also includes Zips Men's Soccer Alum Richie Laryea. https://canadasoccer.com/news/canmnt-squad-named-for-january-canadas-road-to-2026-begins-with-training-camp-and-match-v-guatemala/

They don't have Groce ... or even Senderoff, which is not to say I think TK is a top 3 coach in the MAC.
-
There are only two NFL games on Saturday at 4:30 and 8. 2:00 Saturday would have been a swell time for our game. Oh well, I'm sure the Friday night MAC slate will still bring in mega ratings.
