  1. Can't we be supporters of both of their Zip eras?

  2. I am sneaking out of an all day off site meeting and driving 3 hours to be there on Tuesday. I am anticipating the same type of fun atmosphere that we had when we beat Buffalo to claim bowl eligibility in 2015. #GoZips

  3. That's what I want. No more last-second passes from Chapman to JoJo (2016) or Kent's 77-yard drive to beat us in the final minute (2014), right after Chisolm's 80-yard run that appeared to seal the game. Hopefully, again, the home game is the difference. No drama this time.

  6. Don't know if anybody saw, but they took a wrecking ball to the Grant Street dorm today. The townhouses are gone, too. Hard to imagine anything but another large dorm building going up in that space.

  8. This is where I am. I definitely click the articles. I usually post the links here too. I guess I have to remind myself that the articles really aren't written for guys like me - guys who probably know more about the Zips than GT does. They're written for people with little-to-no knowledge of the team. Idk if that's an accurate statement, but that's what I tell myself to keep from getting too discouraged. Hey, at least there are articles. What infuriates me is when there are no articles at all.

  12. Am not going to start a new thread, but if you won't be at any of the playoff games tonight and want to watch, you can choose from 10 or so here. Must be a Spectrum/TW subsriber. Barton/Hoban and Mentor/Iggy are very intriguing to me. http://www.myspectrumsports.com/oh/northeastohio.html

  13. 1) You can't lump in his tenure at Illinois. It's a completely different animal. 2) I'll take 2-3 .500 seasons if it means we get an NCAA Tournament win. 3) If there isn't program growth in 4 years, then I will consider looking for a new coach. However, Dambrot got 12 years or whatever it was, with zero NCAA Tournament wins. I'm willing to take the risk with the supposed "gigantic if". 4) So the suspensions of Quincy, Treadwell, Harney, Abreu - they never happened? Which by the way, with the national attention the Zips were getting in 2013, that Abreu suspension was doubly embarrassing to the program, university, and fan base, which was then followed up with an equally embarrassing 40 point loss to VCU in the NCAA Tournament.

  16. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, neither of which were Akron when it came to NCAA Tournament appearances. Fact of the matter is, Groce won NCAA Tournament games and Dambrot didn't. I'll take the lumps if it means the ceiling of what's achieved is higher with Groce. Dambrot had ample opportunities to notch that big win, and never did. Embick has had some frustrating seasons with Zips soccer, but the ceiling with him is nearly as high as it was with Porter.

  17. My thoughts exactly! You beat me to the punch on this one. With that said, the zips certainly need to clean up the penalties going forward.

  18. That's the catch 22. We get crap articles from ABJ and it makes us not want to click on the stories. Then they justify it because no one clicks.

  19. What made it better was #65 is Lowery, a Tallmadge Ohio product....nice to see his "Homecoming" spoiled! Sorry ! Also, if you saw earier, IO had a slight altercation on my way in to parking deck with a Bobcatter....actually saw him AGAIN (with wifey in tow) grousing all the way to their car about how the refs cost them the game!!!!!!! Went on and on and on about the call at the goal line that overturned their TD...blah blah blah. I just smiled and resisted trying to give him his comupance.

  20. 1) I think you "skipped" over Groce's biggest achievements in 2012.

  21. It's funny, because I know George reads these boards. It's almost as if he's trying to poke the loyal fans on Zipsnation. After reading his scribbles on OU, I won't even bother going forward. I'd rather read HustleBelt.

  22. It's the route I went. Unfortunately most 18, 19, 20 year old kids aren't the smartest when it comes to knowing how to manage money. Even worse with money they can "borrow".

  23. I'm glad you mentioned this. Over the last few decades, as I have ventured to other stadiums across the country......including several MAC and Sun Belt games.....I hear the same thing from those who have done a good job of attracting higher than expected amounts of fans, even if they are not a P5 program. And this especially applies to the Students and other younger people. If it becomes "cool" to be at an Akron football game, more people will be there. But, don't ask me what it takes to make the event "cool". I'm in my mid-50's. I wonder how many people would have been there if the opponent was a Top-25 team? I say this because I think your post illustrates that we've all exhausted just about every other excuse on this board over the years for the reason that Akronites don't go to Akron football games. Maybe we can finally cross "weather" and "record" off of the list, based on this USF example? I don't know for sure. But, I can guess that 99% of the residents in Summit County have no idea what Akron's record is right now anyway.

  27. I agree with you guys, a big game in person is much better than on TV. I've gone to a lot more bad weather games where we've lost than where we've won. So if it's bad weather, a weekday game, and I work the next day...it's definitely going to be a factor in me going to the game. Sorry, but it is. There's nothing like being tortured both on the field, and with the weather, when you have to work the next day. But that's the unfortunate thing about the Zips fandom. None of us can afford to "take a day off" as it were, because then the stadium is effectively empty (well...more empty), unlike the bigger fanbases, if there is someone who doesn't go...there will be someone else to take their place. At any rate, I will be there Tuesday. And I am bringing 4-5 people. One is a Kent grad, but we can forgive her because she's my sister.

  33. Hilliard-Arce PAC-12 DPOY. Foster Langsdorf PAC-12 OPOY (12 goals, 6 assts). MAC-Hermann Trophy Watch. Those two will be heard from a lot more. Team still has real quality on the field and on the sideline, where Jeremy Gunn really knows what he's doing.

  38. It's possible both may play, so naming a starter may prove to be inconsequential. I could understand a coaches thinking if he where to start the senior against his rival, but also give time to the freshman phenom.

  39. I'll go out on a limb and suggest, the effectiveness of Kent's defense will not hinge on knowing, or not knowing, the starting QB for Akron.

  41. I think for both us and them, it has a lot to do with competitiveness. While we do have a lackluster history in D-1 football, we now look at Kent as what *should* be an automatic win on the schedule and they look at Miami the same I'd imagine. We've also had some pretty epic match ups on the hardwood, and we both seem to have more of an online presence than Kent and Miami...so that makes it easier to get into it more I think. I get more enjoyment out of beating Ohio as well, because I know a lot of OU fans and they're obnoxious. "OU OH YEAH" is god dang annoying. It's something a person with the IQ of potato would constantly scream.

  42. One kitten poster wrote: "While Miami is our traditional rival, I dislike Akron a lot more..." I feel the same way about them. While K.ent is our traditional rival, this OU thing, man...

  43. How 'bout coming to the game??????????????

  44. I think I know which one you're talking about. In my opinion, if none of the officials blow the whistle to stop the play for a false start, then it HAS to be Defense Offside. What happened there? it's like they huddled after the play, and one of them said, "Oh yeah, I did see the offensive guy move early, I just forgot to blow the whistle" ????? But there was another one where our offensive line stood still at the snap of the ball because an OU defender jumped into the neutral zone early. Kato treated it as a free play and basically threw the ball away, and it was a 3rd down play. Everyone looks around, and there was NO FLAG. We had to punt. That one was costly too. Did you see that on the replay?

  45. Whew......Finally posting my thoughts as I got home near midnight last night. Burning this first hour of work to read over this thread is worth it. I'll have to make some time at lunch to read the mental breakdown over on bobcatattack Where to start: Kato obviously played great. He was cerebral running the O. Night and day compared to last week. What a huge and gutsy run to seal the game with that final first down. I am excited for him for the future. The offensive line played great as well. I hardly noticed any pressure at all on Kato during his drop backs and I don't believe he was sacked at all. I've always been a fan of Woody, but I am done with him, and it has nothing to do with Kato's performance last night. If you are a senior QB and F up during the last 3 weeks of the season when your team is fighting for its best overall record in history/MAC Championship/Bowl bid, and your F up is SO bad that you are not suspended 1 week, but multiple weeks, I just have no respect for you and cannot defend you. I would have to imagine the AD/Coaching staff is done with him as well, as if it wasn't a 1 week suspension I would imagine it will be for the rest of the season. It's a shame he threw it all away. Defense scared the hell out of me in the first quarter. Couldn't stop OU at all. But we tightened up some in the 2nd and then really seemed to shut OU down in the 2nd half, even down to starters. Speaking of being down 2 starters... Featherstone AND George played phenomenal games. PHENOMENAL. Both of these guys are back up safeties remember. I said early in the season that we had 2 starting caliber players ready to take over at they've shown that. I didn't think the Davis and Camara targeting penalties were legit, but they don't show replays at the stadium. Seems they were rightfully called based on this thread. Davis wasn't playing great anyways, and he really needs to get that under control. Special teams was horrid. I feel like OU could have blocked our punt every time if they wanted. It was always close. Our kickoff coverage left a lot to be desired and the botched extra point almost cost us. I don't hold it against Featherstone much as he is the back up punt returner, but dang he made me nervous. Coney is much more sure handed and smooth, but it looked like he had a collarbone issue to me and is probably out the rest of the season, maybe he can make it back for the bowl game. I thought the offense looked a little different with Kato back there this week. Spiced up in a good way with some motions and what not. I saw some complaint about the 3 and out drive with just under 6 minutes to go deep in their territory. You absolutely have to run your normal O there up 3 with 6 mins left when they have 3 timeouts. It just didn't work out there. Dailey struggled.....I'm not sure if all 3 of his DPI's should have really been called. The refs seemed to be calling it really tight against us. Something to note though is that he was left on an island. Featherstone seemed up close to the line (presumably to help with the run game) more often than not, leaving George as the only deep safety. I'm not one to complain about refs much........but geez oh weez was that horrible. Just awful management of the flow of the game and we got ZERO calls, and every ticky-tack call went against us. Trying to discredit these wins to "luck" really pisses me off. We've had plenty of crap go against us these past 2 seasons and I know you all wouldn't be giving Bowden the benefit of the doubt if we were losing close games. You know...like against Troy. Our team has been winning these games on the field. Give them credit. Go Zips! Kent State still sucks! No let down.... Win the MAC!! Oh one last thing....the @Zipmeister is alive!
