  1. 2 years at a lower division. 1 year at a D1 program. I don't see him leaving. Groce has raved about his work ethic and commitment all season. Now that's he's hit a little wall he's out the door? Not buying it.

  2. Hester may or may not be a wash with Duvivier leaving (I would assume Hester can run the point a bit better even if he's more of a 2 guard; I can't stand Duvivier at PG), but I think the ceiling for his impact is sky high. He looks like - build and highlight wise - a hybrid between some of the kids from Groce's first recruiting class and some of the kids on Buffalo that kill us every game. As rough as this year is, I think next year is going to be very, very fun. Cotton is really developing into a nice PG. We'll have some depth in the front court. Groce and staff will have a full year to recruit. But first, sweep the Kittens! IS THAT AN OPTIMISTIC TONE COMING FROM SKIP-ZIP?! Alright, who hacked Skip's account?

  3. Have to imagine it is in reference to this: Apparently 4 d1 offers, but I only have found Akron and UAB so far.

  4. And let's not forget about LePear Toles! We should have excellent depth next season: PG: Cotton/Jackson W: Ivey/Hester/Parrish/Toles/Utomi/Patton P: Sayles/Riak/K-lac

  5. I do not think Groce was referring to Daniel since he played 35 minutes. However, Duviver and Jimond only played 25 minutes and Jimond did not have a single rebound. I also thought Duvivier did not guard his man very well from long distance. Since Duvivier is a senior and Jimond is a senior next year I just don't see anyone leaving unless they change the sit out rule next year and then who knows what will occur.

  8. I see it too...but to me it's just human nature. Every night we are facing teams that are bigger, stronger, more experienced, deeper...that beats you down. Utomi's points, rebounds and minutes are through the roof when compared to last season. He's worked really hard to improve himself, but he just doesn't have the supporting cast to win. And if you came to Akron to play basketball, your expectation is to win...a lot. That beats you down. Tough season for the players and fans. Hopefully the guys shake this mid-season malaise and get a couple wins to finish the regular season. A little confidence, and Sayles return, might get us a game in Cleveland? Seems impossible right now, but once you get past Toledo and Buffalo...the MAC ain't very good. A hot Utomi/Ivey/Duvivier can do some damage.

  9. Okay...I had to to do the math: Early signing period: Eric Bentley Gavin Blunt Daishawn Brimage Reggie Corner Devanier Floyd Vincent Fonte Rich Hall Logan Hawkins Jalen Hooks RJ Kelly Ben Phillis Keyondre White Should sign tomorrow: Landon Forman Adetutu Daranijo Treon Sibley Bryce Peterson Tim Scippio I count 17 right there with 8 local guys (9 if you count hooks). You could throw in Te'Corey Tutson even though we haven't heard much. Arslanian wasn't announced last year I don't beleive, so maybe he is one (and could qualify as "local"). Maybe you could count McGriff in Wolfley since they haven't been "announced". Even with all of these assumptions, we would be looking at 21 signees with at most 10 being local. We should be in for a few surprises tomorrow if that article is right.....

  11. This article caught my eye this morning. It says we will add 13 newcomers Wedsnesday. 11 of the 25 total newcomers are local kids. Anyone want to do some math?!? I didn't think we had near that much room, even if you were counting transfers like McGriff and Wolfley. http://www.cantonrep.com/sports/20180205/terry-bowdens-next-challenge-lifting-akron-up-one-more-level

  14. I am not a genius when it comes to "Groce talk" but I think this means that he is coaching and members of the team are not doing what the coach is telling them to do: “I thought our coachability was poor and when your coachability is poor, your effort is not where it needs to be, your attitude is not where it needs to be. He then follows that up with it is my way or the highway: Paraphrasing a quote he’d seen, Groce said teams that struggle the way the Zips have possess two kinds of players — those who hate losing so much that they change their habits or those who love those habits so much they’re willing to lose. “Those guys who are the second type, they can do that someplace else,” he said. To be fair to Groce most of these guys were not his recruits or were last minute recruits so this may not be the team he imagined coaching. It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow.

  15. Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy's 3-1 preseason loss to Real Salt Lake PERIOD ONE: PERRY KITCHEN SHOWS HIS QUALITY In the LA Galaxy’s first 30 minutes of the 2018 season, midfielder Perry Kitchen was a real bright spot for Sigi Schmid’s squad. In his brief showing, Kitchen provided the Galaxy with a two-way presence that they seemed to lack during their dissapointing 2017 campaign. Not only did Kitchen shield his defense from his holding midfield role, but he was responsible for starting several promising Galaxy counterattacks with his clever passing. The 25-year-old may be a newcomer to the Galaxy, but on Saturday, Kitchen looked right at home in the team’s midfield
