  2. From what I was able to understand, GT asked Dr. Green how this hiring affects finances at the university. The response was that talent is expensive, but pays for itself in the long run. This hire is more costly than the last, but Arth's salary is still on the very low side for FBS football. He mentioned that this hiring does not change the outlook from the 3 year strategic plan that was just passed and athletics is still expected to lower their hit on the general budget by $8 million. The most interesting aspect of the answer to me was that we are in negotiations with Chattanooga to have Arth's buyout be (partially) payed through a guaranteed football game sometime in the future. Its not the first time I have heard of that strategy, but I have always thought it was smart so I am happy that UA is pursuing it.

  3. I don't know that any of the previous staff would be kept, but Wattley and Nemec are two that would make sense. They're local HS football coaches without any legacy ties to Bowden. I'd think they have some great value.

  5. Just searched twitter and I cannot find anything about any of our players transferring (at least as of yet), so that is good I guess! Thanks for sharing the Zagorski's twitter @zzx. I'm pretty excited about him.

  7. Basic question about the buyouts. John Green explained that the Nebraska payout took care of Bowden and there is still negotiations with UTC including bringing them here for a game. Something about $8mill being reallocate from athletics. Basically, Arth I'd one of the lowest paid coaches in D1 and he needs to produce.

  11. I can't see it working out any other way. By the time 2025 rolls around that will be a 1.5 million dollar payday. Maybe more.

  13. Thanks, Let'sGoZips. That's what I thought it looked like, but then I wondered why they would feel it necessary to designate "(m)" when it's an article expressly concerning MEN's soccer. Lol.

  15. Personally, I actually like them. I can attend the games and still make other plans for the evening. I kind of find it a bit strange that nobody complains about noon or 3:30 Saturday football start times, but a 2PM basketball game that last half as long is a big inconvenience.

  16. Toledo Buffalo and Kent have most of their home games at 7. We play at 2 because the MAC thinks we are going to suck. The MAC is trying to highlight the best programs in primetime games. It's no coincidence that under Dambrot all of our games were at 7. Then when he left all of the sudden noon and 2 o clock games come along.

  20. Gerry demonstrated that in HS if you get the biggest and best kids to come to your school - often seeking your school out, you can dominate. When everyone else can get big, good athletes (NCAA), you need to be a better coach

  21. I don't like the 2 pm Saturday games either, but was told last year the reason was "We moved to afternoon games to provide more rest and recovery time for the student-athletes between games. This also allows them to spend time with their families after the game at a reasonable hour. This also allows for visiting teams to travel back home earlier instead of in the middle of the night. It is a student-athlete welfare decision on our part." I get it, but too bad they don't apply that same logic to weekday November football games.

  22. And how'd he do there? Edit: If you're going to find an example of someone who jumped straight from HS to D1 at least find someone who did it successfully. Faust is an example of why we shouldn't higher a HS straight from a HS.

  23. I also think the decision was predetermined & why we got the South Carolina game. It paid for everything. If it was for bowl eligibility we would have chose differently. LW knew he lost the team & we weren’t going bowling

  24. If you are loyal to the University as a whole, then you should recognize that sports are a luxury for an academic institution and push for the preservation of scarce resources. Firing a football coach who brought us back from the abyss with several years left on his contract is wasteful and detrimental to the University. There is no other way around that.

  25. I don't mind the afternoon games. However, unless you are a season ticket holder you wouldn't know what day the game is, let alone what time. Where is the marketing of this team?

  26. It was time to change. I think they should have fired Bowden last year after the Cherry Bowl. Loyalty...hmm...my loyalty is to the University and not to some average football coach with zero connection to this community.

  27. Everyone should give him a chance and support him 100% until its determined we shouldn't. We as a fan base need to be better. It'll only make us more attractive in the future. I'm not much a fan of media myself, but there seems to be plenty of approval from the move in that realm.

  28. Good. Looking forward to your constant crying disappearing from the football board. Funny that you want to cry about finances when Getsy would have been by far the most expensive option (assuming he even had interest). Funny you want to cry about his HC experience when Getsy has none. You're also pretty clueless being that you didn't know he was HC at JCU. Tough to take your opinion too seriously.

  29. OK, I do buy that he is better than Bowden, but that doesn't mean we couldn't have done better. I'd like to see Williams explain this hire. Did he speak with Kehres? Was Kehres even interested? Was Getsy contacted and was he interested? I realize Luke had a higher salary than we might offer, but he had the chance to run his own program at his alma mater which is very alluring. When the university asks us to donate our money but they don't answer these probing questions I find my confidence in their leadership dropping. Help me understand what is so great about a guy who took over a program that averaged over 9 wins per season and he subsequently averages 4 wins per season and we want him. Why? In any matter in life past success is the best predictor of future success.

  30. Paul Winters should have been the hire. It could have happened. That would have righted some wrongs and gotten me excited.
