  1. Pretty sure there is a clause in his contract that allows the university to re-assign him to another position to finish out his contract. If declines his new position or fails to complete the duties of that position they would be off the hook for paying the remainder of his contract.

  2. Dambrot should have been let go after the Zips lost too Northwestern,in the NIT that team was good enough to advance.Always out coached in the big games & no player development he had LBJ’s highschool teammates at Akron, and they did nothing.

  3. If Terry Bowden had KD's success, there'd be a damn statue of him at Infocision.

  5. I strongly disliked soccer until the Caleb Porter years. Akron soccer represents what they call "The Beautiful Game" in its natural beauty. There is a reason that 34-pass build-up on the Stanford goal got so much attention on Twitter; it's rare for American soccer to be played like European soccer (American-style soccer is typically pump and dump like most of college, especially the Big Ten, vs. European which is more Akron-like possession). Hopefully the Rowdies get their act together next year. There was nothing like the Porter years when the Rowdies were at their best - a thousand strong on the hill reciting the goalie's entire life via his social media and giving the opponents overall hell. If you haven't already, you need to watch this video. The Tulsa game in 2010 was probably the epitome of that era atmosphere wise. It was #1 Akron vs. #2 Tulsa, Fox Sports Soccer or Fox Soccer Network (whatever it is called) televised the game nationally. Absolutely bonkers crowd with 1k+ Rowdies on the hill, fireworks prior to the game, etc. Akron won 4-0 I believe. Here are some videos from that game... Overview of "The Pouch" Prior to the Game Zips Official Recap The Sound of the Vuvuzelas I Believe That We Have Won Side note: I think Embick has taken the Akron style of soccer to the next level. I think we shoot more now, while still maintaining the patient attack. Scary to think we might be better style wise now than when we lost (officially) 1 game in 2 seasons (2009-10). I did not know that.

  6. They have to pay him the money anyways. For all I care they can have him mop floors and clean toilets. I suppose that would save the cost on 1 janitor.

  7. Shall we revisit one of the several Balsy threads? Fact of the matter is, in his 13 seasons at Akron, Dambrot failed to achieve even half of what Buffalo has achieved these past 2 seasons (official national ranking and a NCAA Tourney win). He even failed to achieve what Groce did at OU in just 4 seasons (3 NCAA tourney wins, including a Sweet Sixteen). Now he's at Duquesne, putting up the same results as he did here - beating up on lesser teams only to lose the big games. And to keep this post on topic, his blow up is embarrassing.

  8. Thats the way it works. You get something you give something. That Bowl was never close to being full for any games other than Acme Zip. Thats when the team was actually consistently good and going to the DII playoffs. If the University didn't take advantage of having all those people in the seats that was its problem. Sell concessions, souvenirs etc. Acme wasn't getting all the money from ticket sales. Just gotta say it was amazing to see close to 40,000 butts in the seats at that old place.

  9. I understand what you are saying. Don't agree with it but I understand. Don't know if you have made millions of dollars over the years coaching football, appearing on TV. Maybe you have made millions of dollars over the years over the years in your chosen vocation. I know if I had gotten 'fired' from my job the amount on my pay check would be $0.00. No choice to retire and still get a ton of bucks if I didn't do my job the way my employer thought I should. I'm sure Bowden would have been happy to coach two more seasons. His employer didn't like the way he was doing his job. A significant number of fans felt the same way. I know the practice when hiring coaches is that unless you terminate 'for cause' the coach gets the rest of the money in the contract even if he is not performing up to expectations. Thats not the fault of The University of Akron or of Terry Bowden. Thats a fault of the system. Maybe thats what upsets me about this kind of crap. Option? Bowden didn't need all that money to 'survive'. Could the University and Bowden have negotiated a smaller buyout? Sure. But $600,000 for this school is a huge chunk of change. Akron has wanted to 'play big boy football' for years Unfortunately, for the University its ATM might not have enough cash to continue to do so in the future unless the program starts performing at a significantly higher level.

  12. Dave Pierce, one of the most respected OHSAA and USATF track officials in the Northeast, and a local resident was on the early Zips soccer teams, and tells the stories fondly. The first home field for Akron soccer was the outfield for the Firestone Stadium. If you're familiar with the site, there's a wall in left field that runs the entire length of the complex and the matches were played in that direction, and Dave said the hill above the wall was packed with fans when they would play home matches, and that Stu would trot down the wall shaking fans hands....

  13. Looks like Matt Feeney, Tom's DC at UT-C, is joining Tom @ UA. He deleted his twitter handle which contained "UTC" & has offered at least one player an Akron scholarship (a tweet I can no longer find. sorry).

  14. Not much to take from the interview specific to the program IMO. Said there's no reason Akron can't be a "Toledo" of the MAC. Going to concentrate on recruiting in the area. Feels UT-C was a good learning experience to help prepare him to make the jump to FBS Justin Fields was brought up tongue in cheek, Arth prefaced by saying he feels like we have a pretty good one here. Hopes to have staff in place by end of the week. Still a few positions trying to finalize. Didn't mention any names.

  15. The difference is he is now in a conference that gives a Damn compared to the MAC who is content on playing their lackluster position begging for the same check. At 8-3 at least they still have a chance to improve and possibly get an At Large Bid compared to the MAC who hasn't had an At Large Bid since 1999 which is exactly why he left. The good ol MAC where you can win 26 games and not even get an NIT Bid. So Duquesne at 8-3 is NO COMPARISON to us

  16. That 8-3 record looks awfully familiar. 8 wins against average/sub-par schools; 3 losses against "the names". Don't miss it.

  17. If someone promised to pay me $600,000, I ain’t retiring and forfeiting it. Especially not to the place that fired me. Bowden would have been happy to coach the next two seasons, but UA told him to hit the bricks. UA knew the deal...they wrote it. If if you want to play “big boy” football, you know eating the last two years of a fired coach’s contract is part of the deal. A $600,000 dinner bill is chump change in D-1 football. If it isn’t for UA, it isn’t Bowden’s fault. If Arth doesn’t pan out, the buyout will probably be $1,000,000. I hope he pans out ...not to save the money...but because it would be fun. It’s been a long time since Zips football has been bandwagon-inducing fun.

  18. Yeah. I'm surprised how okay everyone seems with having former head coaches hanging around. On one hand, it is great that they are still supportive of the program. However, on the other hand, it is impossible not to exert influence that is awkward at best. Hope it works out for you. Maybe in a better world, this is how it should be.

  19. That makes sense too! I'm starting to totally dig futbol. I've already decided I'm getting season tickets next year.

  20. A bad angle to this could be that a college keeps a coach on staff until after the early signing period to save recruits then fire him and hire a replacement for the next round of signings. I hope that never happens.

  21. I know peanuts compared to guys like @Zip_ME87 and @fknbuflobo, but having a left footer is huge for a balanced attack. Especially the way Akron plays and builds up their offensive attack, this kid could be a huge component. Anybody else think the ball looked small in the videos? Haha. Might see more and more kids coming to Akron from Medina, too. Their coach is Simon Spelling.

  23. Yes, he has been on the sidelines at games with Larry, and he did halftime tv (this year I think). “I’ve watched Tom Arth grow from the good little quarterback out of St. Raphael’s at the youth camps in Cleveland that I would help at, to the successful quarterback at St. Ignatius, John Carroll and Colts, to the fantastic coach he is today. He was a smart kid who learned from the great coaches here in Cleveland. With that background and the facilities he has to work with at the University of Akron, I know he will elevate that football program to championship levels of success. We expect, and we will win, on and off the field.” Bernie Kosar Retired Quarterback Cleveland Browns

  24. It didn't go all that well with Faust at first though. When Lee Owens first came in, Faust was still trying to show up at practices and sit in on coaches' meetings. Owens had to let him know in no uncertain terms that this wasn't welcome.

  26. Seems odd for Bowden to stay around in any meaningful capacity, particularly with a young coach who needs to establish his own identity properly.

  27. I think some people wanted KD gone for the same reasons some people wanted Bowden gone. Coincidentally enough, some people seem to be for one and not the other

  28. I don't see that happening. Kosar has never been an Akron guy. No history with the program, the U, the coaches up till now. And I don't see the class of 2019 and upwards being that overall knowledgable about Bernie, nor care. These kids didn't grow up watching him, just hearing Pops and Grandpops talking about him. Maybe raise awareness to donors, but not to recruits and their families. Just my opinion, Lee...
